Yes, it's almost like there is some sort of populist resentment at people that have been steadily consolidating larger and larger percentages of the country's wealth among the top earners while real wages (adjusted for inflation) among the middle class decline, ship jobs overseas, and then whine that they can't create jobs because they're being burdened by the lowest effective tax rates in modern history.

I can't understand it either.

ArcadianRefugee: basemetal: If only you could see the looks on the faces of the people when they came back to their missing yaght, plane or expensive car.

/and again when the police told them it was repossessed.

I'd imagine it looks just like the faces of people who get their much-less costly car repossessed.

OH, wait, I forgot: it's fun to hate on people who are (or, at least, were) more successful than you. Yeup. Nothing brings a man up like bringing others down.

I've never had a car repossessed. Therefore they are NOT more successful than me. Therefore I can make fun of them.

Pray 4 Mojo: I have a question.

So apparently the Fark rules are:

Repo man taking a car from a blue-collar family = Scumbag
Repo man taking a car from a rich guy = Hero

So... is there a line it changes, or is it more of a shaded area?

And what are the guidelines? Is it the income of the debtor? Is it the value of the item being repo'd?

I want to make sure I have the rules of "Fark hates rich people" correct.

When someone loses a car or home that they need to earn a living or simply survive, it's sad.
When someone loses a high priced car, yacht, or place that are toys they got by over extending their wealth earned from taking advantage of lesser people, it's funny.

If one of these people losing their high valued item which they required to perform charity or they got by scrimping and saving for years to afford a sizable down payment, I'll say it's kinda sad.

Y'see, because it's situation dependent you white knighting jackass.

When someone gets their car that they need for their job repossessed, I won't laugh, because, well, it's not funny. When someone gets their jet that they need to distract from their small penis repossessed, I will laugh because it is funny.

CSB time:

I once bought a high dollar King Ranch truck while flush with good income. A year later I lost my job. I proactively contacted the lender, and explained that I couldn't make the payment and would be selling the truck. The dicks told me they would repo it, even though I was still current on my payment.

I tried to sell it for a cpl weeks privately, then took it to a dealer and traded it in on a beater. As I was walking out of the dealership I was approached by a guy, who asked me what I had done with my truck. I explained and he turned out to be the repo guy who was assigned to my case. He was actually really nice about it, and explained he had read the case file and thought they were being dicks, and had hoped I would do just that to avoid any credit dings. He had arrived at my house to repo it as I left and followed me to the dealership.

Not all repo guys are jerks.

Man I loved that truck. Just doesn't fit my lifestyle now or I would have one again.

lucksi: Yeah, everything from that article would be illegal here. Someone doesn't pay their debt, you get a court order and when he still doesn't pay, the government takes it from him.

BTW, what happens when you shoot someone who is stealing/repossesing from you? For example, if the boat had been occupied by one of those gun toting people you have over there.

What would be illegal about it? The gov. Doesn't magically end up with something if they're the ones taking it. They'll have repo men that have to find it and get it. That's usually the challenge. The people know it's up for repossession so they'll hide it as best they can. It also isn't really stealing because the bank owns it until it's paid off so they're really just reclaiming the banks property and the debtors are the ones who didn't pay and have stolen property.

If they're so damn successful, let them pay for their damn yachts. It's the same screwing that the rest of us get from these fat cats.

I guess it's the most satisfying job in the world if your real ambition is to be a thief, and the only thing that stops you is the law.

What I don't understand is how people can see any difference between people losing property, crucial to a basic standard of living, due to a system where the rules are written to be against them, and the people who got the most advantage from that system losing things they don't need in a million years.

They're exactly the same thing.

did you read the article? most of these guys arent robber barons, they were stupid investors.

that said, who makes money in the financial markets then uses that money to borrow money to buy things? cause you win one lottery ticket, you assume you are going to win every lottery ticket? No one is that smart.
