If only this extended to the FB app on my iPhone.

I've been using that for awhile. It really is quite useful.

Mine replaces pictures of babies with kitties...I need to look into extending its capabilities.

Does this come in Firefox and iOS?

I have a solution that pisses everyone off.

Every time someone posts a liberal or conservative rant, I respond by sharing a Libertarian Party link along with "Since my friends continue to bombard me with political BS, I thought I'd return the favor."

Funny, I don't seem to get so many political rants from either side now.

Why not just unfriend them?

2012-10-26 02:06:26 PM
Funny, I posted this morning about how I was anxiously awaiting that time, about 8 months after the election, where my friends on both sides of the political fence would stop being retards and post pictures of cats.

Lo an behold, at least one of the biggest offenders (whom I've had to unsubscribe from to keep from seeing her derp) liked my status. One guy posted a picture of a cat.

Honest Bender: Why not just unfriend them?

Cause they are people I actually care about and I want to see how their life is going. Everyone is allowed to sound stupid about something, unfortunately for a percentage of the population its political rants.

2012-10-26 02:16:04 PM
Why not read them and then get on with your life.

2012-10-26 02:20:23 PM
I don't mind the one-off rants.

I have 2 friends, one who has 2, 3 pro Obama posts a day, and another who has 2 or 3 pro Romney posts per day. That's where it's overkill.

Where it's really overkill was the Obama friend who during the debates posted about 20 comments per debate as it was happening.

I just put them on ignore. It saves from hurting the tard's feelings, and I don't have to put up with their babbling.
This especially applies when it's a family member.

How good is it at detecting stealthy pro-Ron Paul comments?

If there's a truly stupid one based off poor research/awful logic where they put effort into it then I'll try to debate and correct them and they might actually learn. The other ones I just have to ignore due to the awfulness of the post.

You think that's overkill??? I had one that was 30 something posts during the debate alone. She was about 40 for the day that day. When she started calling people with opposing opinions traitors she got the big UNFRIEND. Didn't even matter to me which party she is backing, you don't call someone a traitor for voting. I only wish I could have done so in a way that she would be aware of it.

Better to avoid it. Who ever said a more aware populace was a good thing?

Have you ever actually tried this? I have never seen it work. The worst offenders are the people who post photos with overly simplistic, inflammatory captions. They're not going to read an article, they're not going to use Google, and they're sure as shiat not going to listen to me when I point out the other side of the coin.

Bottom line: my boyfriend's best friend is a loudmouthed political idiot and I owe it to my bf to keep the peace. If kitten photos are what it takes to do that, then kitten photos are what I'll use.

Well theres actual education that can be had with financial, environment, and similar beneficial policy discussions. Then there is pure hatred, fingers in ears posts that bring out the absolute worst is people.

I do understand it, really. Some people are just too far gone. It's just sort of sad, is all.

I reply to conservatives with gay porn pictures and liberals by adding them to Ann Coulter's FB feeds. They have the ability to block me from seeing their political posts. I see my replies as encouragement to do so.

Maybe Drew could work out something like that for the politics tab. Instead of Boobies being replaced by boobies, you could pick some people who's posts would only show up as a pleasing picture.

Christina Hendricks' rack, maybe.

I think this idea is great but it'd only really do justice if it changed the post itself, not just your view of the post.

S'funny, the guy who annoys me most with political BS posts lots of libertarian stuff and BSAB stuff. In between conspiracy theory stuff.

The Fark Politics tab would be a lot more tolerable.

Is it really that much worse than censoring any word out of your "friend's" mouth that you disagree with? LOL, didn't think your position all the way through, did you?

What I find hillarious is some of my conservative friends complaining that I am being so "aggressive." No dear, this is just the first time you have had to exit the echo chamber and hear truths your delicate, floral ears have never heard before.

2012-10-26 05:50:59 PM
If I wasn't on my phone right now I'd post a screen cap of my friend who said something along the lines of "what kind of person names legislation after himself? Obamacare? You socialist prick"

Funny thing is that I'm on the more conservative side of issues. But come on.

Lets be real though. I've heard liberals cry about people being "jerks" or whatnot whenever someone doesn't go along with their views on something. Everyone is the same way. They like their echo chambers, and any dissenters have something wrong with them.

Does that include stupid Teabagger macros and photoshops? Got a buddy stateside who has been posting nothing but for the last three months.

This is the same kind of thing my teabagger FB friend says. It's always "truth hurts" and like such as.

I went to a christian high school. (You can probably figure out the rest and stop reading.) I'm still friends with a lot of people from that school. Almost without exception they are the only people in my newsfeed who post the most ill-informed, bigoted, hateful crap when election time rolls around. I don't want to defriend them, they were part of my childhood, and surprisingly they are mostly good people. And I hate blocking them on my newsfeed, cause I am interested to see what they're up to. But it's so hard not to go off when I read some of the rants. Kitties is a better option.

As long as they release an extension that turns any sports related talk into kittens as well. What about one that turns baby pictures into pictures of Prince? It's a double standard that people can blather on and on inanely about sports or their kids but if you mention one thing about politics, you're instantly shut down.

Sports are fun. And it's even more fun to get into an argument with someone about it. Posting political rants and image macros are little more the nauseating proselytizing

See that's where we differ as politics is my "football" and I love arguing and figuring out the historic connections for different events and public policy. People talking actual football come across as reciting pointless stats to a game that affects nothing in the larger scheme.

Diff'rent Strokes and all that.

That's great that you have such a deep love for looking at the inner clockworks of politics, and I'm sure you'd be an interesting person to talk about such matters with. However, the majority of people that like to "discuss" politics really just want to talk at you about their philosophies. It's those people that ruin it for people like you.
