Well, people willing to believe in a future that's bright and optimistic, and are willing to work toward that can't be a bad thing.

Of course, the stench would be overwhelming.

All true; but the stench is already overwhelming, Mr. Bastard.

If no one showers, no one has to. Think of the time we'd save.

In the early 80's a high school friend who didn't drive asked if I would drive him to a Star Trek convention. Last I heard after high school he became a priest so maybe there is something to the virgin meme.

I got my picture taken with William Shatner. I would definitely call my first Star Trek convention a rousing success, and am glad it was in London, which feels distinctly more like a part of the Federation than most American cities do.

Futurama already did that episode.

Shazam999: I want another Star Trek TV show.

Well, they screwed up with creating canon around Enterprise and Voyager created canon about the future with the Time Stream Guard (or whatever they were) so you'd have to pick which canon to break.

Another season of Firefly, using the original and movie as canon, could be interesting, but it would all have to be plus ten years or so because everyone really looks older.

It may be time for a new SF franchise.

We can't have a new show because of... canon? Fark canon. They can just pick something and that's that.

I never saw Firefly when it was airing. One day I saw the film was on telly so thought I'd check it out and couldn't believe how badly acted it was. It was farking atrocious and the cast seemed to be populated with powerfully cliched stereotypes with all the personality of a sheet of cardboard. Just leave Firefly where it is.

But yeah, new Sci Fi franchise please! Or how about just rebooting Space: Above and Beyond, 'cos that has the potential to be all kinds of BSG awesome.

London used to have the greatest drinking hole ever. Page's Bar, near Westminster.

Yes, that's an 8-feet wide NCC-1701-D in the ceiling.

They had green Romulan Ale that made you pee green if you had too many. Happy days...

My apologies. Thanks to previous experience with Fark sci fi threads I expect 90% of the posts in them to be trolling at least one franchise in some way.

Disregard the movie as part of the canon. It was a horrible explanation for the Reavers. Having Mister Universe was too convenient; he was never in the original series. Mal's "injury" was also way too convenient as a way to avoid death.

Whedon spit on his own series.

Well, of course, it was a Joss Whedon show, afterall. What did you expect?

Still, it had its moments, but those moments were mostly because the actors didn't take themselves too seriously.

Big ol' this.

The dudes behind Spartacus are doing a sci fi thing called "Incursion", which is described as "Band of Brothers meets Halo".

Finally got around to watching that a few weeks back. Or trying to, at any rate. Sorry. Boring plot, not a single likable or interesting character. A reboot would have to be massively re-tooled to make it watchable.

/couldn't make it past episode 5

Oh, come off it. It's fans like you that make me hate that I'm a fan of something. I don't want to be associated with "fanboys" who think they're better writers than the people in Hollywood. You're the very fan that people lampoon when they lampoon the "sci-fi geek".

The latest movie broke everything after Enterprise except for old Spock having memories of an alternate timline. So there really is no issue.

It was the perfect explanation for the Reavers and completely fit with the philosophy of the rest of the series. - The government wants to protect you from yourself for your own good, but in doing so they cause much greater harm.

That hardly seems fair. They only had one season. It's not like they had 7 seasons to work with and then just pulled a character out of their ass. It's entirely possible there were plans for Mr. Universe later in the series but they never got the chance.

going to have to agree here. i never saw the series, just caught the movie and was blown away - sure, the context is what you can do in 2 hours, not what you can build, destroy and revive over multiple seasons, but it really stood on its own.

flash forward to seeking out the tv show and ugh, that was painful. again, i'm sure in the context of "hey this new series has started and they're going to really pull this together over a couple seasons" it was probably very promising. but in my context of "here's a show that was the basis for this really great movie, though I know it's only got a handful of episodes to watch", it really stunk in all those bad, contrived soapie ways that cornball sci fi defaults to when it fails to take on the big ideas it is uniquely capable of as a genre

though, i will say, the tv show knew how to pick the lady talent, amirite?

If we're really gonna stick with only characters developed during the series, then they should've gone to Badger rather than Fanty and Mingo.

/And the Operative should've been Jubal Early or Adlei Niska.
