last time i got tickets it was because the police cars occupant behind me in line at the drive through found it necessary to check Mrs.Kritter's plate while i ordered a snacky snack. sure enough, the registration was overdue. law breaker me. living the thug life. gangsta style.

Since this is Fark, I'm guessing it really was the scrumptious aroma of fresh McDonald's french fries .

Law enforcement officers sniffing around for people smoking herb sounds like a fine use of police and taxpayer resources.

Wait-- no. Seriously, officer, is there nothing else going on in your precinct at the moment?

Hey now,

all that other crime is awfully dangerous. Could get a man killed!

Who do you think they are?
Armed public servants charged with protection of the citizenry?

The cop didn't charge anyone with a DUI because he knows weed doesn't impair you. Nice cop.

Never agree to a search.
Always ask why you have been stopped.
Always ask why the cop is doing what they are doing
Never admit anything
If there is more than one person in the car never say who owns anything. Actively deny knowledge.

Always create reasonable doubt as to exactly who the lawbreaker is.

remember, they have to prove BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT

Yeah, the cop as security guard sitting in back by the drive through, probably a better way to find DWI's and not a complete legal overreach.

/I am probably ok with this.
//Legalize it anyway.

I'm pretty sure the McDonalds is more harmful to the individual and society as a whole than marijuana.

Pssht amateurs. This is how to deal with this kind of situation

Repeat after me:
NO OFFICER IT'S NOT MINE-

Take a good look into my eyes,
does it look to you like i'm high
i'm just dehydrated i don't do crime
gimme a little sip of your water i'm fine

Reason du jour for stops is the smell of unburnt pot. Don't know if I read it here or some where else but a cop stops a guy because he smelled dry pot, three dog searches are negative but the cop finally fins a flake in the trunk that might be pot but is too small to test.

Dumbass potheads, smoking in the car. It's still illegal, kiddies, so don't do it somewhere cops routinely have access to for traffic stops and such.

...Counting down the seconds until some butthurt pothead replies to me with some "legalize it" tripe, not realizing I haven't made any statement on whether I think it should be criminalized or not.

While I don't think the suspect should have been driving, it is pretty maddening to think of all the resources wasted to arrest, process, incarcerate, persecute and probate(?) this suspect for a little pot.

Seriously.

I have no problem with a cop harassing someone for smoking weed WHILE DRIVING. Yes, you probably have driven safely stoned a hundred million times. No, you can't even remotely pretend you have the same reaction time and coordination as a sober person.

Passenger admitted they were puffing. They didn't charge the driver so you cannot even remotely pretend you have the same reading comprehension and coordination as a stoned person.

FTA: He asked the driver, a woman, and her passenger, the suspect, about the presence of marijuana

The passenger was the one smoking, according to TFA. The only thing unsafe about the driver is that she's a woman.

Nope, I used to live in Crestview. The cops are corrupt, recently the commisioner and three high level officers were forced to resign and are due in court over some pretty serious charges. If the fuzz there can't find trouble, they'll create it.

I have a non-pc question. Would it be acceptable to refer to IA as Fuzz Busters? I know that is what people used to call radar detectors, but this seems more accurate.

Lungs aren't that efficient. You can't hotbox a car and not have the driver catch any of it. Seriously, people. If you get caught being this dumb, you can't cry about it. It's dangerous and stupid.

I'm not disagreeing with the statement that driving stoned is bad. But if a passenger is smoking with the window(s) open, I have a hard time believing that the driver is experiencing a full high. We know the cop smelled it, so they couldn't have been hotboxing. Still, driving around with a stoned passenger isn't that great of an idea either.

So now that faint whiff of weed the cop smelled has escalated to hotboxing in the car to suit your narrative. Interesting that the police officer, who would be motivated to arrest both and charge for a DUI disagreed with your assessment of the impairment of the driver.

Hotboxing and contact highs are complete BS. the concentrations in a car to get a 2nd hand effect would have to be astronomical. All it does it make your clothes smell.

Why is "reaction time" so important?

It seems to me that situational awareness is more useful. Useful in not putting yourself in a situation where "reaction time" is needed.

THIS. At least testing for reactions as part of the driving test and simulated scenarios where you have to take the right actin or fail your test (ones where you can make them dangerous as they are only simulations which is not possible on a test but happens in real life) Then regular reaction tests after 40. (yes I am over 40)

Some people should not ever drive yet pass the test.
