enry: Ok, I approve. Not the greatest (Goldfinger, Thunderball are better IMO) but Adele can belt out a tune. And she's young, so hopefully she can keep this up for a few decades.

That's my problem with this song: she never belts it out.

The Muthaship: It is awesome, and very "Bond". But, Live and Let Die is best.

Maybe it's because I've heard that song about a billion times on the radio, but it just doesn't feel like a Bond song. I'm not saying it's bad, and I certainly wouldn't say it's anywhere near the worst of the Bond themes (that would be you, Madonna and Sheryl Crow), but that's just like, my opinion man.

Same here for me: I kept waiting for the song to dig in and find its last gear. I'd put the Skyfall song into the "pretty good" class.

/Hope the movie is better.

Rwa2play: yves0010: Dwight_Yeast: there4igraham: Bond films always have a solid title theme. I'm having a hard time thinking of a bad one.

The one Madonna did.

Die Another Day is ranked, in my book, as the worse of all Bond themes.

That and "Never Say Never Again." Two songs that seemed forced IMHO.

Never Say Never Again is not a Bond Movie. It was not produce through the official Bond production company, Albert R Broccoli Productions (Ion productions). So it is not canonical.

This remix/redone verson of one of the themes (OHMSS) is better than pretty much all of the themes from the last 30 years or so. And I've liked some of the ones from the recent movies, but this just kicks ass.

EON Productions, and Barbra Broccoli has been running it for at least two decades.

Never Say Never Again was the bizarre product of a series of lawsuits involving Thunderball. It was originally written as a screenplay by Fleming and a couple other people, with the plans of making it the first Bond movie. That never happened, Fleming sold the rights to what became Eon and eventually one of the co-authors sued. The lawsuits dragged on for years, but eventually the guy was allowed to make a James Bond film, independent of Eon. The title is supposed to have been something Connery originally said when he returned to the Bond series for Diamonds Are Forever.

I know that the Broccoli's are still producing Bond films. But when you look into getting the official Bond movies, Never Say Never Again is not included just like the original Casino Royale movie.

I know there has been an increase in rockers doing it, but I kind of want Muse to do one. I don't even like their albums that much, but I think they could do a good job.

Agreed. In fact,it's nothing more than an unnecessary-and revolting-remake of the far superior Thunderball. It's quite telling when the least nauseating character in a flick is Mr. Bean lite.

IntertubeUser: The best James Bond theme by far was A View To a Kill and Live or Let Die was pretty good also. Any arguments to the contrary come from hipster douchebags with shabby tastes too ignorant to know any better.

//"Bon. Simon Le Bon."

Sorry, good Bond themes should have an air of timelessness to them. There is nothing timeless about View to a Kill. You can hear the first 3 seconds of the song and know it was made around 1984-1985

Also add, the synth drum sound is farking horrendous. I dunno what kind of snare sound they were shooting for there, but it sounds like someone is hitting a plastic wrapped covered mattress with a boat oar.

Not as good as the original theme for OHMSS, which is still awesome. That's an underrated movie, and Lazenby's underrated. His big fault was not being Sean Connery.

I wasn't arguing with that, it's just that Barbra has been running the company longer than "Cubby" did alone. He originally had a partner named Harry Saltzman, who was the guy who talked Fleming into selling the film rights in the first place; Albert bought him out in the 70s.

I don't know if I'd agree that there's anything resembling canon, when it comes to the Bond films, as there's no continuity to the series, but there are certainly "official" Bond movies, and neither the first two Casino Royale films nor NSNA can be considered part of that series.

What makes the older ones timeless? When I hear them they sound like they're from the sixties, an era of music I don't particularly like either. I think thats a bad way to judge a song. A view to a kill happened long before I saw a Bond movie, but to me its a good theme (and quality movie)

There is a cannon in the Bond films. Little statements here and there show that the movies move along behind each other. Example would be the little statements, spoken and unspoken, about Bond being married once before. Also reoccurring villains like Jaws are also mentioned when seen again. I can see that it is more based on a loose canonical concept.

And sorry, I did not mean to sound like I was arguing. I did not mean to imply that either.

When I was a kid, I really hated that movie. It was my least favorite Bond movie. But as I got older, it easily ranked up to one of the highest in my book. Beating out even some of Connery's movies (Least favorite Connery movie is Diamonds. Cant stand the Bond Girl).

thecpt: What makes the older ones timeless?

They used "timeless" instruments ... strings, horns, etc. that have been used by hundreds of years to make music. Goldfinger has elements of Big Band from the 40s and lounge jazz of the 50s.

As opposed to the Casio CZ-101 in View to a Kill that was relevant for all but about 3 years.

Happy to see all of the "You Know My Name" love in here. Don't remember hearing the song when the new Casino Royale came out despite watching several times, and the song randomly came on a digital radio station. My mind immediately said, "This song sounds like it should be a James Bond song." Sure enough, load a video to show friends and tis.

It is a damn good song. Been listening to it for a couple of weeks -- a good iTunes pickup. It's a throwback to the classic Bond songs, which they never should have strayed from with all of the Jack White/Madonna "let's make a club hit!" nonsense.

Movie is going to be great. It's nice to see a franchise "get it right."

Adele may or may not suck, but this song definitely does.

She sounds like a bored Barbawa Wawa. If she'd at least put some energy into the second go round on the chorus, that would have made it passable. Alas...
