jso2897: Does anyone remember Sununu ever NOT being an asshole? Because I sure don't.
Not news.

I don't feel like looking it up, but didn't Sununu get tossed out of Congress for taking vacations on the public dime, or something? You know, that thing the right's always accusing Michelle Obama of?

2012-10-26 06:54:51 AM

log_jammin: I think it' because the last time I heard his name was dana carvey saying it during a sketch on SNL the week before Clinton was elected.

Any time I hear his name, I'm transported back to the 1980s and Mark Russell Comedy Specials -the guy who used to show up on PBS and sing political song parodies.

2012-10-26 07:07:57 AM

shotglasss: Obvious tag busy, trollmitter? Powell made it clear in 08 that Obama got his vote because of his skin. This election is no different because Powell is no different than the other 97% of blacks who will vote for Obama based on skin color.

I hear this percentage of 94%- 98% of the black vote going to Obama.
I am reminded of the old Soviet elections or communist countries in the past announcing that the Party leader had won 98% of the votes. Our teacher would just roll his eyes and continue to read the propaganda.

I also hear black commentators speak of the diversity of opinion in the black community.
This diversity seems to end at the voting booth.

The conservative pundits think Obama endorsement of Gay marriage is going to peel away support from " traditional black churches " Yeah ! Don't count on that, Sean.

I doubt that you will find a Jewish or Catholic or Hispanic or Asian candidate receiving anywhere near the 90% of the vote from their own people nation wide.

We all have family or friends that are going to vote for "their own People" believing having one of your own close to the lever of power is more important than the issues.

Because someone points this out doesn't make them racist.

Oh yeah! I forgot all bout that guy!

A wealthy, old, conservative white guy making racist remarks and thinking he's being insightful? Why, I never...

Also, for all the cretin's in here defending Sununu, Sununu was backtracking on this bullshiat almost as soon as he said it.

Omahawg: There was a time in the mid-90s when I figured Colin would be our first black president. I really did.

If he'd run, he would have been, but that would have gotten in the way of PNAC's little schemes. Oh, how I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that backroom deal was hammered out...

It seems like I remember a time when Sununu wasn't over-the-top derpity stupid. Did he suffer head trauma or something?

Powell's got some Viet Nam-era skeletons in his closet, from what I hear. I always figured that was the reason he never ran.

Which is also why they line up to support Alan West.

All the people who believe blacks are voting for Obama because of blackness ignore this. Allen West has a higher unfavorable rating and gets less support from black people than his challenger Patrick Murphy.

Lola.

So black people are only voting for Obama because he's black, too, but white people voting for Romney are doing so based a rational decision on policies. Got it.

Do some of you idiots actually read what you type before you post it?

Genevieve Marie: Generally, if I take several minutes to work on a post and I bother to add citations and reading suggestions, it's because I'm genuinely trying to have a discussion on the topic at hand.

I do this all the time and then kick myself for wasting it on the utterly dense. Like I have paying work and I am writing a thoroughly researched reply trying to change the viewpoint of Romney-bot who is -- I am not making this up -- too visually challenged to do any sustained research. He asked me to help him sort some things out. Despite much effort, they remain unsorted. Why try?

Waste.

Well, maybe not. Procrastination does have some survival value or it wouldn't persist as a human trait.

2012-10-26 07:42:38 AM
And, no matter what, the racist, pro-rape party will get at least 40% of the vote. Neither of these things are deal-breakers with a large chunk of the electorate.

propasaurus: From the comments:
He voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 because its called Job Security, and the fact there was no white candidate opposing Bush. He voted for Obama in 2008, and will vote for him again this year, because both are black, and because Powell never had a shred of Republican in him to begin with. Whats wrong with telling the truth once in a while? Obama should try it.

That's right, Gore and Kerry, both black.
And I'd say going to the UN to push the Bush administration's lies about Iraq pretty well qualifies him as a Republican.

Yes, I'd prefer Powell endorse Romney - his endorsement is tainted.

Just remember when you do such things, its not necessarily a waste. This threads do not occur in a vacuum. True, the person you are engaging may or may not actually be interested, and may be stringing you along. But *other* people are reading to, and by engaging them (and, potentially, smacking them down), you do not allow their statements and beliefs to go unchallenged (and when being polite and well sourced, may even sway people to your side.)

No, no, that's the Market of Spam. I think the Mark of Ham is a story about a young actor who was in a car crash, finished the movie series he was in, and then went on to become the Joker. And a fire bender bent on world domination.

Democratic primary in a black district. One candidate is white and has a good track record as a Democrat. The other candidate is black and has been arrested numerous times over the years for things like cocaine and has been investigated for questionable financial practices. Guess which one wins? Hint: This has really happened before.

just sayin

It could be worse. The Free Republic crowd's united reaction was that the reason he endorsed Obama was because both of them only got their jobs due to affirmative action.

DeltaPunch: skinnycatullus: And I applaud Mr. Sununu for standing with fellow white man, Mitt Romney.

That's seriously in the running for most offensive thing said in this campaign.

I'm actually not so sure that this one is more offensive than his "Obama needs to learn to be an American" comment. That was equally disgusting IMHO.

I'm going with Newt's, "He must need to play basketball, watch ESPN, and take naps. He's not a real president. He doesn't do the things real presidents do."

That dog whistle is a freight train.

Genevieve Marie: John Sununu seems to think that while black people vote based on race, white people do not, and the fact that he is a white man endorsing a white man isn't worth noting, but a black man endorsing a black man can't be based on logic and has to be based on racial identity. And in doing that, he completely and totally dismissed Colin Powell's very thoughtful and reasoned endorsement.

They did this crap in chicago when harold washington was running for mayor.

"If you are black and you vote for harold, you are showing pride; if you are white and you vote for Bernard Epton. you are racist."

2012-10-26 10:28:24 AM

Gyrfalcon: Apparently, only WHITE people vote based on rational thought. Black (and presumably brown, also yellow and red people) only vote based on skin color. Ergo, while a WHITE person might vote for a black (brown, yellow, red) person because they find their politics amenable, a person of color ONLY votes for such a person based on skin tone--although if they voted for a white person, it can only be because of the white person's superior political stance.

Why not just get out the hoods and sheets while you're at it, Sununu? Trot out the ol' bell curve while you're at it and unpack all those hoary old racist theories too. Let's get it all out there. Hell, go ahead and call General Powell a n*gger too, you're on a roll.

Don't forget, white people only vote for minorities because they're afraid of being called racist.
