I was going "what? they went with the red eyes instead of the giant doll?" when I got to #12, thinking they wouldn't go for two in the same episode. Then I see they made the right choice at #1. That show is terrible and does not hold up, but that episode is FANTASTIC

The Poltergeist one terrified for a while.

I had completely forgotten about this one though:

Cool list, brought back a lot of memories watching Nickelodeon around Halloween. "AHHHHH! Real Monsters!" was another great show during Halloween.

Man, I loved that show when I was a kid... was hoping for that creepy doll to make it to the top. I vaguely remember most of those characters, but would love to re-watch the series, even if it turns out it doesn't hold up well.

Wow. 50? That's a lot. Can't they narrow this down to 10 or so?

I would have tried to work in "Submitted for the approval of Fark's midnight society" myself subs, but thanks for the nostalgia trip. Glad they included most of the ones I remember. But they left out a few, including the one where the mall is a video game.

Also, this looks like Kenny Powers's sister in law.

Isn't the pinball one (#3 Mr. Olsen) the video game one you're thinking of? If I remember correctly, the episode ends with a giant pinball going down an escalator.

It's funny how I can remember a lot of these episodes (close to 100) even though they were only on Saturday nights, but stuff like Salute Your Shorts, which only had 26 episodes and was on daily, I can only really remember a few episodes like the beach trip with the two left behind doing jigsaw puzzles, the radio trivia episode (giraffes have a black tongue), and the salami episode.

Yes. Good catch.

The one that made me jump as a kid was the girl in the mirror. That's all I remember of it.

AYAotD never really managed to scare me as a kid.

Except for that pool monster. I still get creeped out thinking about that thing.

Why he was so scary: He turned this poor kid into a leprechaun. That really sucks.

Um... forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't he turn the kid into some kind of rat or something? And isn't the guy in the picture somebody else (among other things, the actual leprechaun)?

The "article" is pretty crappy, but it was still a fun trip down memory lane. Teen Nick shows episodes occasionally on their "The '90's are All That" block.

I had a girl crush on Sam when I was little.

The Cold Ghost never scared me; I just felt really bad for him. However, I STILL can't get his shivering little voice out of my head. Whenever I get cold, my inner monologue is in his voice. That's kinda creepy >.>

I was speaking more to the insipid captions under the photos, I have no idea what show they're talking about

2012-10-26 08:08:40 AM
Those captions read like they were written by a retarded guy that just watched the whole series over the past week.

"Why this is scary: because he's ugly. Look at him. He shouldn't look like that."

2012-10-26 08:29:52 AM
I don't know if Nick still has shows like that, but it was truly great entertainment for me as a kid.

2012-10-26 08:30:01 AM
This brought back all sorts of memories of 'Eerie, Indiana' for some reason. Man, that show scared the living shiat out of me as a child.

/the original, that is
//the remake that came out a few years later was pretty benign

2012-10-26 08:51:01 AM
remember the episode where the kid got trapped inside a pinball machine and he could shoot the villians with water. But in the end he could never escape... that episode was great

Great memories but painful captions. This was one of my favorite shows when I was in middle school.

I remember #23 caused me and my friend to be terrified to walk past the dark laundry room in my basement. Sometimes I miss being scared like that, what an adrenaline rush.

2012-10-26 10:11:00 AM
Really bad article, but fun to scroll through the pictures. Loved this show when I was a kid. Is it available on DVD yet? I knew it wasn't for a long time.

2012-10-26 10:24:41 AM
I can't remember a single episode, but I remember that I liked the show.

2012-10-26 10:34:10 AM
Quicksilver was the only one that REALLY freaked me out, and I don't even remember why.

2012-10-26 10:49:54 AM
God, I used to love that show. I remembered most of these, but a couple others too. I remember one episode where a babysitter and her two charges wind up at an old house, there were snakes in a crib, that's about all I remember. There was also an episode where a deaf girl was abducted by aliens or something and there was a map which could be touched to transport the abductors into closets around the world. I also recall one where there was a statue that needed water to turn back into a real girl.

When I'm cold, I either find myself singing "Brr! Brr! I wish I had fur" etc OR saying "I'm cooooold" in a creepy voice to myself. I don't know if it makes it better or worse that I only do this when I'm alone (or sometimes on the phone with my boyfriend).

Nickelodeon should run this as a marathon next week. Loved this show as a kid, although I was probably too old to be really scared by it.

It's cool how the stories often didn't have a happy ending.

Oh dear lord. I'm pretty sure that one actually traumatized me. To do this day, I'm actually frightened of malls. It's not that I just don't like them. I have a feeling of nervous dread like something bad will happen if I stay.

I should probably thank them for that.

It's kids telling ghost stories around a camp fire, and that genre doesn't exactly hold up to advancing age well. Probably be pretty good for kids still though.

On a semi-related note, the Zeke the Plumber episode of Salute Your Shorts and the Ghost Stories episode of Hey Dude always scared the shiat out of me when I was younger. Those, along with memories of All That and The Adventures of Pete and Pete are seriously turning this thread into a nice little trip down memory lane. Was never a big fan of Clarissa Explains It All, though.
