The right place to go if you don't want to see a DUI ever again. Hell, the Aeroflot pilots are so drunk they explode breathalizers when they blow into them.

Speaking of Aeroflot, you know what site I miss from September 2001? AmIgoingdown.com.

It was great. You could enter the airline, flight, season, etc., and it would calculate your odds of crashing. You had abou a 1 in 10,000,000 chance flying from Montreal to Toronto on Air Canada, but things could get a little dicey flying Aeroflot to Siberia in the Winter. I don't remember the details but I think it was at least 1 in 1,500,000 and possibly 1 in 150,000. Yikes!

It wasn't that secure if a drunk man can hop the fence and be in there. I used to live in the neighborhood in the 70's as a kid and remember when they built it. Back in the cold war it was kind of an imposing place. It's not on Embassy Row like the other embassies, it's in a residential neighborhood with middle class small houses, so kind of an odd location for an embassy.

When the Secret Service arrived at the scene, they explained to Russian Security Forces the situation. It then took about 90 minutes of negotiating before they turned the man over to U.S. authorities.

I like how they had to negotiate for that long to have a drunken guy who had no idea what he was doing, turned over.

Likely took 90 minutes for the button-guardian (he who protects the button that raises the barrier, and lowers the barrier) to find the appropriate person to wake up to authorise handing the guy over, then for that person to sit and make sure it's OK, to wake-up their superior, and for their superior to swear for a few minutes as he was getting head from some really good hooker, and do you have any farking idea Viri how much these American girls cost? Then he has to make sure the embassy lawyer doesn't care, wait till the american moron drunk is given all of his relative rights etc. and have the chance to request asylum etc. then hand him over to the american police...

I'm surprized that it happened that quickly. The Russian Embassy is Sovereign Russia. The guy breached their security perimiter and entered their "country" without an permission. That's kinda serious. Probably not the type of incident that gets resolves by Corpral Krapski. I'll bet the Ambassador got woken up to make the desision.
If the Cold War was still on he might find himself in Siberia or dead.

As of recently, Russia has a zero tolerance drunk driving law which, shockingly, is actually enforced.

hmm. I came here to say he knew exactly what he was doing. Everyone (should) know making a run for Mexico wont save you, but every DC resident should know that hopping an embassy wall might..
