At this drinking level -- comparable to about three to four drinks for women and five drinks for men -- the number of nerve cells in the hippocampus of the brain in rodents with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 were reduced by nearly 40 percent compared to those in the abstinent group of rodents, the study found.

Meh, rodents can't handle their liquor anyway.

drinking less during the week and more on weekends -- reduces the structural integrity of the adult brain, U.S. researchers say.

Are you saying drink like every night is Friday Night?

One man's drinking binge is another man's pre-game before hitting the bar.

2012-10-25 09:47:10 PM
Yeah but if you stop before it's too late it's reversible. I'm sure I have another day or 1,000 in me.

Moderate binge drinking can bamage drain

Conservatively speaking, I prefer liberal binge drinking.

Perfect. As my wife gets fatter and my kids get less cute, I can slide further and further into dementia.

Only the weak ones.

2012-10-25 10:33:18 PM
Those last few years of your life are going to suck anyway so drink up.

2012-10-25 10:33:22 PM
Well that explains the politics tab. Me, I prefer to drink regularly, that binge drinking stuff is for suckers.

I read the article with a few dozen hard ciders in the back of my car.

2012-10-25 10:39:49 PM
Isn't that the point? Drink until you can't remember why you started drinking to begin with?

/have I been doing it wrong this whole time?

2012-10-25 10:40:46 PM
Why waste all that money to be fat and stupid?

2012-10-25 10:41:55 PM
Why do you think I do it?

2012-10-25 10:43:31 PM
It's only binge drinking if you stop after a certain point.

2012-10-25 10:45:57 PM

Buffet: Why waste all that money to be fat and stupid?

Beer is never a waste of money. If you enjoy something, it is never wasteful to spend a little on it.
If you don't, you end up being a killjoy that publishes crap like this study.

/Damn researcher probably hasn't had a day of fun in his/her life.

>NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Moderate to binge drinking -- drinking less during the week and more >on weekends -- reduces the structural integrity of the adult brain, U.S. researchers say.

Finally, a scientific study that shows just what everyone has known all along: We must drink more on the weekdays!

That is what they are saying...isn't it?

I just got back from my local. I had 4 pints (imperial). I'm doing alright, I'm feeling it, but I won't feel it in about an hour or so. It makes we wonder. This isn't a normal Thursday night but it's not a completely atypical weekday for me. I do feel stupider (but wiser) than I was when I was in my 20's. But I'm doing alright.

you can regrow those cells. You know how? Sex.

Mine are all regrown now so I stopped. I didn't want to be that much smarter than everyone else.

2012-10-25 11:07:44 PM
So this is why I avoid moderation.

It's that thing you empty the back wash that's leftover in beer bottles before tossing or recycling them.

Post after post of the exact same joke.

Alcohol sure does damage your brain.

On the very rare occasion that I not drink for a few days in a row I can tell my motor skills and comprehension vastly improve. That is when I start thinking too much and see my life for what it really is.

And now I am off to the bar.

2012-10-26 01:39:29 AM
I only drink on days of the week ending in y.

2012-10-26 02:39:11 AM
None of the people who I knew in college who were binge drinkers had much to loose in the first place, so nothing of value was lost.

Perhaps. But binge to binge drinking can result in owning a top 1000 site on the internet.

Made famous in the 80's by Bob Nelson in his College All-Star Football skit

At about 2:15 into it he goes: "I myself, when I was a little children, I was playing football with my firends and my head was accidentally ripped from my body. So my head was laying in the mud, and my body was running around tackling shiat, like that! Finally one of my friends put my head back on my body. And the Doctor said I had Dain Bramage. My friends don't know what the fark that shiat is."

Also from that skit: "A mind is a terrible thing."

Due to my tolerance and location (New Orleans, where the bars and stores are open 24 hours), I drink an insane quantity of alcohol. I know it's bad for me, I know it makes me dumber than sh*t, but I love it. My liver doesn't return my phone calls, scotch radiates from my pores, and my formerly high-functioning brain fires like a spark plug in a tub of butter - but damn if I'm ever going to stop.
