DIAF you piece of shiat.

His resignation will become effective halfway through the season? That doesn't make sense.

Bummer. He did a great job narrating The Wonder Years.

Good night, sweet bumbling burglar.

It is strange.  At first I thought maybe they'd name the new commish around then, and give David time to train him or whatever.  But Adam Silver is taking over, and he's been the deputy commish for 6 years.

2012-10-25 06:15:59 PM
Now if we can somehow get him to take his acolyte Gary Buttman with him...

2012-10-25 06:17:26 PM
He'll have more time to host lemon parties with Clay Bennett.

2012-10-25 06:18:25 PM
He'll retire to his home in Seattle.

2012-10-25 06:19:36 PM
And on the 7th day the people of Seattle rejoice with and outstanding "FARK YOU" to David Stern.

FARK YOU, FARK YOU right in the a$$. I hope David Sterns catched the HIV and dies

Beginning of the season wouldn't get him the record, and he has a new job lined up before the end of the season

Didnt get him. Its about the fact that I hate him, and I said I would avoid the NBA until he retires.

He is a P.O.S. lying backstabbing A$$hole, that disgusts me to the core.

Oh the irony of Rome's butthurt about that. While "uncomissioner-ish", on perhaps the most highly listened to sprots talk radio show in North America, for Rome to get pissy about that is in a word, rich. the guy who invented "The Rat Family", regularly cracks jokes about the OJ murder (albeit in the guise of reading endless jokes takes for 18 years but with the plausible disclaimer to his producer / screener, "why did you bring me that? there's no place for that garbage on this show which is why i've been regurgitating them for 18 years" to be butthurt about a rhetorical quip.....

The truth has to be in the middle on these commissioners. They are portrayed as being these miserly overlords while their accomplishments are over looked.

I will admit I am naive to the specifics because I try to avoid the politics and enjoy the games. The whining just seems to be way out of whack.

2012-10-25 07:03:50 PM
Doesn't Bettman answer to a Board of Hockey Governors who have as much decision making power as he does? Again, ignorant to the specifics.

Yeah, as it turns out, when Stern retires on his 30th anniversary as NBA Commish, he will top Rozelle by about 2 months.

What are Sterns biggest sins? I know about Seattle and that sucks. I know he blocked the Paul trade. The dress code thing was silly. What else has he done that get people so worked up?

Gunny Highway is pretty cool for a Celtics' fan. I don't think he's dumb enough to think that Seattle didn't support the Sonics. But yes, hopefully Seattle will be able to love the new Sonics and IMO, hopefully OKC never wins a title (until Bennett's dead, in which case, meh).

Ultimately, I hate how he's run the league for the past decade or so, but the league is a hell of a lot better off now than it was before him, and it's in large part because of him. Much like a lot of people, as he got older he seemed to get more conservative and worried about what others would say instead of doing the right thing.

/I love all the whining about Bettman, as though he's the one telling the owners that the players make too much and that they should lock them out. All he's done is help make the NHL the richest it's ever been. The league wasn't even on TV (in America) before Bettman!

There were two lockouts (1999 and 2011) and the Tim Donoghy scandal under his watch...those were pretty bad.

I appreciate the kind words haha. Like I said earlier I understand why Sonics fans are pissed. They got hosed but they were a good fan base who deserve a team. I hope they get one and I hope they are embraced and successful.

The league is great right now and has become an international sport under Stern. You have to take the good with the bad and be realistic about it.

The Donoghy scandals was terrible for the league. It made it more difficult to defend the NBA to people who claim it is fixed. I am an admitted NBA "fanboy" and it really sucked to have the integrity of the outcome of the games compromised.

I think Stern's been fantastic for the NBA. He's embraced social media, he's been able to aid in exporting the sport of basketball to basically every other country, and he's actually been rather proactive in maintaining the quality of the sport by discontinuing the drafting of 18 year olds.

As good as he's undeniably been, good effing riddance. I'm from Houston and still pissed about the Gasol trade.

I personally don't appreciate his hiding behind "I have no power to not suspend Stoudemire and Diaw for standing up and (Diaw) checking to see if his teammate was alright, then returning toward the bench immediately. I ignored when Celtics players did it, I changed the rules when I found out too many of our refs were breaking the rules about gambling in casinos...but I suddenly magically lost all power in this one instance." At least have the balls to come out and say "HAHAHAH F*CK THE SUNS!"

So as a Suns fan who eventually moved to WA a bit before the Sonics thing...I really have a lot of hate for him. BUT overall, for the entire league, he's mostly been a huge beneficial force for the league, which honestly may not exist today had others been commissioner throughout the '80s and '90s.

That I can understand. I was pulling for the Suns in that series and his ruling was crap. They were the better team that year.

I understand the hate and appreciate the perspective.

Are you sold on the Lakers? Are they one of the few teams that can win? Yes. Do I think they are the favorite? No way.

It's cool man I can understand the anger. If the Celtics were ever stolen and people told me I didn't support the team I would have a quick trigger too.

Who is your team now? Or are you a man without a country?

A man without a country.....but I have a lot of hope regarding what Chris Hansen is doing.

/Loved it how the only two states supporting the Heat in the finals were in opposite corners of the country.

I'll say they are the favorite, but they're not prohibitive favorites and there's certainly issues should any of those guys get hurt (and it's going to take a lot of luck to get all of those guys through the season healthy).

BUT Mike Brown is their coach.

/still rooting for LeBron
//did you catch "Benji"? Was really good, especially of them to get his killer's version of the story. Also funny to note an early version of players colluding to form a super team...in HIGH SCHOOL.

...we don't speak of this...

if it didn't make me feel like a cheating husband, i would root for them to tank the 1st 10 regular season games, and then just throw loooooooooots of cash at Phil...as it is now, i just pretend he's not there and Kobe and Nash are player-coaches

Other people already posted what I think his sins are but to sum it up, there has been too much shady business during his watch. The refs, the drafts, the NOLA trade, Seattle, Charlotte Hornets, the softening of the game, THE REFS, and the lockouts. Plus, I'm a Mavericks fan, so I hate Stern more than most other fanbases (outside of Seattle).

Actually, you are a piece of shiat. You don't seem to understand anything about the situation, and should therefore stfu. We supported the team. We supported the team for 41 years. And in return we get an owner (Howard Schultz) that alienated the fan base and the entire team because his "hobby" wouldn't conform to him...he refused to conform to NBA standards. And as a big fark you to Seattle (the city that built his Starbucks empire), he sold it to an owner knowing full well would move the team instead of negotiate a new Arena Deal. Said new owner wanted a half a billion arena all taxpayer paid...he essentially threw out 1 option he knew would be rejected. So now we're team-less.

And now we have a new guy fully paying for a new stadium, with everyone in the community backing it up (except the corrupt longshore unions, their palms weren't greased enough) and we'll eventually have another team. Don't ever accuse Seattle of not supporting our teams. It came down to a dictator Owner that wanted to shove it up Seattle's ass because we wouldn't bow down to him and give him his own arena for a team he was tanking into the toilet because he *gasp* didn't know how to run a team in the first place.

And this from someone who hates basketball. I can only imagine how ignorant and we tall did you are. diaf.

You are correct, it is pointless. One day I hope to celebrate Stern's slow, painful, lonely death, which won't be pointless, and then I will potentially start watching the NBA again.
