I had an interview with Jason Cherkis of the Huffington Post on Monday. He was the one whose article originally started this campaign, thanks to Grand_Moff_Joseph. By the afternoon, he let me know that another reporter had posted about the fundraiser on HuffPo, so he had not done a full article.

Instead, he sent the following out as a blurb on the Huffington Post daily newsletter email. He also indicated that he'd sent my quotes and those of Mr. Antal to the other HuffPo reporter, who may at some point use them.

SOUP KITCHEN VISITED BY PAUL RYAN NOT DEAD - Jason Cherkis: "The soup kitchen facing a donor backlash in the wake of Paul Ryan's embarrassing photo op has been rescued by the internet. The day after HuffPost broke the kitchen's sad news, Corey Snow of Olympia Washington, organized an online fundraising drive on the charity's behalf. In about 30 hours, Snow had raised $10,000. By Monday morning, donations had reached more than $12,600. Snow said that he was upset that the most needy would become pawns in presidential politics. 'People are hungry regardless of whether you vote Democrat or Republican,' he said. 'I thought it was not cool that they were pulling donations.' Snow, who has talked with the charity's director, plans on keeping the campaign going long past the election. He plans on turning in his donations to the soup kitchen by mid December. 'The election will still be over but people will still be hungry,' he said. The campaign site link is http://www.indiegogo.com/svdp-soupkitchen. There is also a direct donation site set up by the Mahoning County Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at http://mahoningsvdp.org, and of course the national site at http://svdpusa.org.

Full newsletter feed here.

We've had some other minor media attention to the campaign and it's being picked up by the blogosphere slowly but surely.

I've been flogging it to local media outlets and so forth- interest is there and I've spoken to several producers for local radio but so far no traction. I'm continuing to send out updates via email.

We are on the radar of the national SVdP organization- their director of communications has left a comment on the campaign and I have reached out to him directly. They have been nothing but supportive!

Please keep spreading the word! We have over 30 days left and I'd like to make it a record-breaking Christmas present for the SVdP soup kitchen.

Thank you, Farkers for your support. You're all awesome.

Another quick note: I heard from the national chapter and they're pleased at the donations and such but are understandably a bit leery of the attention this is garnering, because most of it is political in nature.

I've updated the campaign site to very prominently state that we're not affiliated with the SVdP and in no way speak for them, in order to make sure they feel their apolitical stance is respected.

Nope, it's still going! It was decided to dial it back a little because there's six weeks of campaign and we didn't want to saturate the queue.

Good idea. Better to be overly cautious in that regard.
