Crewmannumber6: 1 out of 5. Shovels & Rope are fantastic

^ This. Saw them open up for Butch Walker and they absolutely rocked. A gal and a guy. And it was GREAT.

Cool! Cary Ann Hearst used to play at least once a week in the CD store that I worked at in college! (remember those?) Glad to hear that she's making it!

Also, I love Yeasayer... Saw them live a few years ago and it was really fun.

Guessing the ladyfriend will have at least one of these bands, er groups downloaded by the end of the week.

Why can't everyone just listen to the Melvins and be happy?

I feel like my taste in music was pretty cool for a while, but then I stopped looking for new stuff. I should be less lazy.

I just moved to South Dakota, and all the "cool" places play my favorite music. Everything is 5 years behind. It's wonderful.

assjuice: NPR should never talk about music.

Well, none of them were terrible, but I wouldn't listen to them more than this one time.

3 Moments that make me keep sending money to NPR.

Hearing "Zydrate Anatomy" as the intro to a section on campy movies (Made my week)
Hearing Emilie Autumn's "Fight Like A Girl" used during a recent story about feminists in Europe.
And hearing Tapping The Veins "Butterfly" used as bumper music on a story about butterfly migration. That one actually made me so happy I cried while driving, but I loves my TTV.

Oh snap! I suppose I should put that in my corn cob pipe and smoke it after removing it from my bike messenger bag.

I've actually never heard them. It was just too good of a set up to let pass.
II'll give them a listen later in atonement.

Re: A band you've never heard

I dig it! Good stuff.

As for the NPR link, I really liked the Shovels & Rope tune. I'll probably seek out more of their stuff. It's excellent.

Otherwise, I was underwhelmed. Those artists are good at what they do, it's just not my thing. Here are 5 you may or may not have heard, that you may or may not like, for no particular reason, from me:

The Pop Group / She Is Beyond Good and Evil

Bourbon Princess / Stretcher

Guadalupe Plata / Baby Me Vuelves Loco

Glass Eye / The Crooked Place "Hoedown (Life In The Oilfields") is the one I wanted to post, but couldn't find it. "Living With Reptiles" is another good one.

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears / Mustang Ranch

Yeah, most of 'em are old... But if you haven't heard it, it's new to you! :-P

OldManDownDRoad: Eunuch Provocateur: You mean to tell me NPR employees listen to something else besides Gillian Welch?

They seem awfully fond of Allison Krauss.

Don't forget Sigur Ros and Bjork.
