Gather all the toenail clippings from the millions of people in US prisons. Irradiate it to sterilize it, grind it up, and flood the market in China.

Because turnabout is fair play, biatches.

These poachers are barbarous monsters.

The people that consume this shiat should be ashamed of themselves. Be proud of your small penis and live your life.

A simpler solution is to brutally and painfully kill both rhinoceros poachers and those who knowingly and willingly purchase poached rhinoceros products and to leave their mutilated corpses displayed as a warning to others.

That'll work. Because the chemical composition of the substance being sought is clearly the motivating factor. Not the fact that it comes from a farking rhino, which is a huge, awesome, and potentially dangerous animal with all sorts of symbolic meaning behind it.

By the way, rhino horns aren't supposed to be an aphrodisiac in Chinese Medicine. They are to treat FEVER. I guess aspirin isn't good enough.

And tigers, sharks, and bears. Tiger penis (for obvious reasons), shark fins for soup, and bears for their gall-bladders. I'm sure lots of other animals too, but those are the ones I've seen in the news and read about, bears especially. Bones fans might recall an early episode about bear poachers, for example - the trade includes American black bears.

I'm unaware of lions being poached for the Chinese, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Swaziland and Tanzania, among others, have started using poachers as "training" for their scouts and snipers:

A Tanzania scout just back from a successful "training" mission. I like the old-school Enfield .303 - a proper application of "Rule 303" as the South Africans call it.

Serious question: Has Pfizer considered marketing Viagra in China as a bear foreskin alternative? One would think showing them modern drugs that actually do what crazy sympathetic magic is supposed to would put a serious dent in poaching.

What happens is Chinese herbalists just put Viagra into their herbal medicines and claim it's the magic power of Endangered Animal Bits.

Traditional Chinese Medicine works on the power of placebo. And more expensive placebos work better than cheap ones. Apples used to be a powerful medicine in TCM, because they were rare. When they became common, suddenly they were no longer medicinal. Plus it's all about bragging rights. You have to show off how wealthy you are by flaunting your tiger penis powder, bear gall, etc. and

Nah, someone starts a rumor that another animal is special, it takes a bit of time to sink in, and they go after it. rinse and repeat.

Or they go after some other mysticism, and start hunting Albino's...

Rangers in African preserves have had the "shoot to kill" option for years now. The consequence of this is that poachers are becoming even more well-armed, since some of them are now being funded by terrorist organizations--I guess the money from rhinos and elephants works just as well as money from guns and bombs.

It's been a very bad few years for elephants and rhinos. I just read some long article about it the other day, which I won't go find because it's depressing as hell.

I got news for you..people are farking stupid, and will buy anything that will promise (insert false promise here) or give them a better woodie. So, they will keep ingesting rhino horn even though eating their own toenails would be as helpful. Stupid is as stupid does.

Olderr Chinese people think about ;face; etc. I think the youger one,s are more sensitive. Some Chinese like the bimbo shopping on Robson street, only care about themselves and should be forced to take a sensitivity course picking up Rhino s--t. Why would you be dumb enough to believe in this hocus pocus stuff. These are the same people who pack casinos each night because they believe in luck. The young Chinese generation should force the older one;s to get with it or go back to China where you can spit or #$%$ on any street anytime. How come Chines (or all companies ) exploiting Africa do not hire armed guards with some of the profit ? Because they do not give a s--t. Time we quit giving a s--t about people like this.

Just a thought here, but is there some way to make fake rhino horn / elephant tusk and flood the market, thereby preventing the extinction of these creatures? In fact, is there a way to take human hair and toenail clippings, extract the keratin, and make fake horn?

If horn / tusk sells for $1500-$2500 / ounce, no wonder poor people are hunting the animals in the global south. How low would the price have to drop before poaching would no longer be attractive? $20 an ounce? $5? And what if you poured the profits into protecting big game and making the risk calculus for poaching less attractive?

Hmm... even if the hurdles were too hard to navigate, could you end rhino / elephant poaching just by creating a rumor that this is possible? Would people still be willing to pay thousands of dollars an ounce for 'traditional' Eastern medicine if they thought there was a possibility that they were getting scammed by Westerners?

Does anyone have a good buddy who's skilled in biochemistry? I'm not sure where to run with this idea, but see big possibilities.

The placebo effect works on believing something works, not the actual contents of the pill or medicine in question, so if people think their traditional medicines are not the real thing, then they won't have any affect, where if they do believe they are real then they will work (to an extent).
