Ginny Lewis, a Democrat and 72-year-old retired district attorney from Princeton, Ky., says she'll vote for Romney because "I'm tired of the Republicans blaming all the debt on Democrats, so let them take over and see what they do."

Not that she's optimistic about how that will turn out, though. "I think things will get worse before they get better," she said.

Yeah let's vote for Romney so things will get worse so I can say "I told you so!"

WTF people?

72 year old, 55 year old.... Romney seems to have the menopausal "I don't care if Romney screws over women, I no longer have skin in the game" vote.

Oh how convenient that the media is reporting on a single poll that indicates the gender gap is completely gone, just in time for the election, while ignoring mountains of evidence that point to quite the opposite.

Silver would call it an 'outlier'. Shills of course will insist it's completely true, until the trend reverses again, at which point you can't trust polls.

Monica Jensen, a 55-year-old independent from Mobile, Ala., says she voted for Mr. Obama in 2008 but will shift her vote to Romney this time, largely because of the economy.

"I'm ready for a change," she said. "I want to see the economy go in a different direction."

It's been going up for the past three years, so I guess she really wants it to tank, again.

Yeah, I have been following a number of different polls (because I apparently don't realize we have a limited time on this earth) and this has "outlier" written all over it. The general average seems to be that Obama is about +10 with women and Romney +6 with men. There are several poll aggregators to look at, not just Silver but TPM, RCP, and another one that slips my mind right now.

I guess you could report on those for the sake of accuracy but "aggregator" is too big of a word for the corporate media.

I farking love this. Eight years removed from "You don't change horses in mid-stream", we get "It's time for a new direction". I'm sure it's no coincidence that you didn't change horses from a white Republican, but when black Democrats come along, you can't pick a "new direction" fast enough.

This, I have a guy in the next cube who a couple weeks ago said, "There is only one poll that means anything, the election." and then litterally 3 days later said, "Romney is gaining in the polls!".

There is some logic to that.

Bush ran the country into the ground and has gotten a lot of people to blame Obama for not being able to magically fix it (insert Magic Negro quip here).

If you are thinking about this long term, if you really want the GOP destroyed it might actually be a good decision to give them full reign of the country - so when the nation literally kerplodes your party can say 'I told you so'. Sure, the nation will be essentially destroyed and destitute, but you will be right. Raising taxes, not starting pointless wars, cutting spending, and socializing medicine WOULD have saved the country. Maybe next time the voters would actually think before voting for dipshiats.

As the media is falling all over itself to have a horse race in this one, they will spin whatever results they can to keep people interested in tuning in.

I have no doubt that there are correct numbers out there to be had, however the constant barrage of new-bombshell-poll-results-du-jour is getting ridiculous. Also, the polling entities are working overtime to squeeze out any change on a daily basis from an already jaded base of respondents. After all the polling and poll number reporting, one has to wonder if the entire process is corrupted to the point that no reliable number can be found.

Bottom line: I don't think anybody has a clue as to where things really stand. While a poll might indicate something in favor of one candidate or another. The over parsing of information creates results that are just as likely wrong as they are right.

Best thing at this point is to (early) vote and wait. If you see something your candidate or the other candidate says that makes you want to say something, then do that. If you want to campaign for your candidate, well do that too. But relying on the vulture reporting of the MSM at this point will just make you crazy. As soon as you hear a poll which sounds good for your guy, another will be presented that blames your guy for making babies cry, is responsible for your pizza going cold and very well could bring on the rapture prematurely.

I found it distracting that the article repeatedly uses "Mr. Obama", but just "Romney" without the use of a title. I don't know what it means, if anything, but it bugs the crap out of me. Maybe it's the standard journalistic way and I just never noticed before.
