This is not a difficult concept to grasp people.

You can't use words and phrases with an obvious negative history or connotation in a negative way.

That's it, simple stuff.

vpb: It's funny how racists like to believe that racism is when you violate some incomprehensible set of arbitrary rules.

cman: Yeah, comparing this to the usage of African Americans using the n word is pretty idiotic. Basically what you just said is that it is OK for the left to say whatever racist shiat they want because its ok for "them" to say it.

Case in point...

This tar baby will stay with Palin for a long time.

bdub77: I'm really gonna have to go with Palin's too stupid to be offensive.

Palin is most assuredly a giant racist.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/06/palins-father-she-left-ha_n_ 3 81724.html

Palin, though notoriously ill-traveled outside the United States, did journey far to the first of the four colleges she attended, in Hawaii. She and a friend who went with her lasted only one semester. "Hawaii was a little too perfect," Palin writes. "Perpetual sunshine isn't necessarily conducive to serious academics for eighteen-year-old Alaska girls." Perhaps not. But Palin's father, Chuck Heath, gave a different account to Conroy and Walshe. According to him, the presence of so many Asians and Pacific Islanders made her uncomfortable: "They were a minority type thing and it wasn't glamorous, so she came home." In any case, Palin reports that she much preferred her last stop, the University of Idaho, "because it was much like Alaska yet still 'Outside.' "

A Dark Evil Omen: If the American right ever was actually forced to recognize the fact that their "BOF SIDSE SAEM" narrative is bullshiat, they would then also be forced to confront the fact that they're radical authoritarian nationalists and nothing else. Fascist trash.

You forgot theocrats.

Those sentences are missing a paragraph of exposition between them. Unless you intended to go with 'proof by juxtaposition'.

Fat Old Broad: Shuck and jive. Rape pregnancy is a gift. Forcible rape. Your body can shut that down. Retard. You're a slut if you use birth control.

This is the MAINSTREAM of the Republican party. I almost can't believe it.

You shouldn't believe it because it's not the case at all. It's easier to pick out a few conservative sound bites and paint them all as evil fascist racist pigs than it is to argue policy. All you need is common sense to know that it is absolutely ridiculous to paint (all) conservatives like this. C Matthews is ridiculous to take issue with someone using this phrase, but I'm not surprised as he is the Glenn Beck of Democrats. I'm surer there are plenty of kooks on both sides, but all you need is common sense to know that you're bring unfair to call this the "mainstream of the Republican Party".

Take MItt Romney for example. For weeks all we heard from every media outlet in America save Fox that he was a bumbling, lying, cheating incompetent who didn't stand a chance against Obama. Love him or hate him, look what happened after America actually saw Mitt argue in a debate and they were able to judge for themselves. Stop letting hack journalists and bloggers make up your mind for you. Stop being so gd partisan.

So it's not Republican candidates for national offices that are saying these things? Good news.

These people clearly represent the majority of Republicans in their constituencies. They are mainstream, and you have only yourselves to blame. Deal with it.

What debates were you watching?

Cause that's what I saw from Romney....
He spent all three debates disavowing every policy position he had taken while repeating long debunked talking points and completely avoiding every opportunity to explain his plans as president.

Hey, Palin - go have a biatchfight with Ann Coulter over how retarded she's being. You two coonts have yourselves a good scratching, then cry over Oprah's newest schmaltzfest while spooning Haagen-Dazs into each others' assholes.

As soon as you remove your own head from your retarded, retarded vagina, we can have a less retarded discussion about hurtful words, you retard. Go full retard somewhere else, O Useless Seat-Filla from Twat-silla - we're all stocked up on "retarded shiat no one's following anymore" here.

No subby.

Shuck and jive is always racist.

It's unacceptable for a newscaster to say it.

It's far more unacceptable for a VP candidate to say it. Especially when, instead of apologizing, she pulls the "But, mom, everyone else is a racist! Why can't I be a racist?"

I can't believe you! That's the kind of language that got her in this mess to begin with, rhetord.

2012-10-25 01:17:57 PM
I take great pleasure in her slow slide to obscurity and how it must just chafe at her constantly to know that she's not just irrelevant, but now actively shunned by the conservatives. Her circle of admirers gets smaller by the day, so she redoubles her efforts to woo them back, screeching ever louder using the same buzzwords and hackneyed rhetoric that won them over in the first place, without even realizing that she's completely lost touch with what's going on today and everyone else has moved on. She's one of those people when after their 15 minutes of fame are up, they just don't know how to go back to their regular lives. You most often see it in child celebrities and the "winners" on reality shows, and the most common reaction from the public is merely pity and maybe a touch of relief that it's not us, followed by annoyance when they just...won't...go...away!

I'm pretty sure that if you were a producer of any kind of TV show (except maybe liberal news outlets), you could get her to appear on your show. Hell, she'd probably agree to it before you were done making your pitch.

That wasn't the point vbp was making. They were saying that in both situations, the person who is complaining is ignoring context and historical background of the word/phrase.

The cornerstone of MOST arguments like this.

2012-10-25 01:19:00 PM
During her vice-presidential nomination speech at the Republican National Convention in 2008, Palin-whose 22-month-old son, Trig, has Down syndrome-vowed that "special-needs" families would "have a friend and advocate in the White House" if John McCain were elected. Link

I actually would have had an inkling of respect for the woman if post-2008 she would have gone on talk shows to discuss the struggles of raising a child with disabilities instead of spouting off on politics which she only understands in terms of buzz words.

I was not arguing who was better in the debates, or who lied etc. I am making the case (as many liberals have as well) that America's opinion of Romney was largely and unfairly shaped by the media prior to the debates. The debates were really the first chance America had to see who Romney was without looking through the foggy lens of the msm. The poll #'s speak for themselves pre and post debate. You can call him a liar all you want, but you're only kidding yourself and being extraordinarily partisan when you call Romney a liar and pretend Obama is God's gift to politics.

2012-10-25 01:30:18 PM
It wasn't racist........it just came from a despicable source.

2012-10-25 01:30:31 PM
Republicans, lets make a deal. Stop being racists, associating with racists, or turning a blind eye to racism and we'll stop assuming that you meant things in the worst possible way. Agreed?

2012-10-25 01:31:03 PM
Here's the deal, guys. The Republican party often puts forth policies that are outright hostile towards racial minorities. This has lead to the perception that there are racists in the Republican party. As such, when Republicans say and do things that can be interpreted through a racial prism, they often ARE interpreted that way, because it conforms to preconceived notions about the Republican party.

If you stop engaging in the promotion of policy that is hostile towards minorities, eventually this perception goes away. In the end, it's all about policy.

2012-10-25 01:31:24 PM
I hope Romney, Turdblossom and the neo-cons are enjoying watching all this. Any time spent discussing Coulter or Palin or Akin is time spent not ragging on the war-mongering, misogynist Romney.

Tell you what: The Venn diagram of Willard "Mitt" Romney and liar resembles that of London Bridge and Arizona.
In my experience, the only people calling President Obama a messiah are sarcastic right-wing morans, and 'lefties' trolling or parodying right-wing morans.

The post-debate polls reflect the fact that the president failed to call Mitt on his lies in the first debate when he should have.

You want to put the conservatives on the defense because you have nothing else left.
The fine Americans of your party would be better off focusing their efforts on policy than playing this riduclous "gotcha" game all the time. More and more Americans are getting tired of it. Whether Mitt's "5-point-plan" is complete BS or not, at least it's a plan.

For the Average Independent or swing voter that is even remotely interested in politics. Their choices are a candidate who is pushing a plan for job growth, and a candidate whose biggest issues seem to be big bird, binders, and bayonets. I'm an Independant voter who has voted for both parties in the past and take it from me - for the last several weeks you've seen an implosion of the D party because of trivial bs like the "3 b's" and the statements by Chris Matthews are no exception.
