Sort of like "Why is it racist for us to use the n-word but OK for "them" to use it".

It's funny how racists like to believe that racism is when you violate some incomprehensible set of arbitrary rules.

while talking to Rachel Maddow about her visit to Afghanistan, wondered, "What has it been like, as you shuck and jive, hang out with the men over there, the women over there, in uniform risking their lives every day?"

Yes, because language is completely neutral and not contextualized by its use in centuries of oppression. "What do you mean I can't refer to a black person as a monkey? I call white people that all time!"

Yeah, comparing this to the usage of African Americans using the n word is pretty idiotic. Basically what you just said is that it is OK for the left to say whatever racist shiat they want because its ok for "them" to say it.

So how many hours of tape did they make a lowly intern go through to find an example of a dirty librul saying the same words?

That wasn't the point vbp was making. They were saying that in both situations, the person who is complaining is ignoring context and historical background of the word/phrase.

Gotta agree. Sarah Palin is almost too stupid to be a racist. If she said it in a racist manner, it was mildly racist. Now if she had said something like "Obama's once again spear chucking at Libya" or something - that'd be a different story.

Gotta have something to biatch about people.

I didn't say anything that could be rationally interpreted as that.

What I said is that words aren't racist people are. Racism is bigotry about race. The intent is what makes it racist. That's why you don't understand it.

The reason that it isn't racism for black people to use the "n-word" is because they clearly aren't expressing a racist sentiment. They aren't using it as an insult, whereas whites using the "n word" are usually intend it as an insult. It's like a dog breeder saying b-tch isn't the same as calling a woman that.

That's why racists suck at concealing their racism. They think that if they avoid certain words when they express racist opinions that no one will be able to tell that they are racists.

Excuse me? How is the person using the term NOT context? Dude, you are all over the map. Some days you can be reasonable and embarrassed by your party... and other days you side with Newsbusters in defending Sarah Palin over the use of "shuck and jive" to refer to Obama, while claiming that a hypothetical group of black people using the "n-word" lacks context.

Why are we attempting to have a real discussion about racism with NewBuster's tit-for-tat "you too!" games with MSNBC as our basis?

I'm really gonna have to go with Palin's too stupid to be offensive.

I love this:

"I've been known to use the phrase most often when chastising my daughter Piper to stop procrastinating and do her homework. As she is part Yup'ik Eskimo, I'm not sure if this term would be deemed offensive when it's directed at her or if it would be considered benign as in the case of Chris Matthews' use of it in reference to Rachel Maddow," Palin wrote. "Just to be careful, from now on I'll avoid using it with Piper, and I would appreciate it if the media refrained from using words and phrases like igloo, Eskimo Pie, and "when hell freezes over," as they might be considered offensive by my extended Alaska Native family."

I guess Palin got an igloo's reception on that one. But I mean, let's face it, Obama pretty much Eskimo Pie'd the situation in Benghazi, right?

Seriously though, the media will use those terms when hell freezes over.

Is there anyone who actually likes Chris Matthews? I mean, I'm a pretty liberal guy, and never once have I or any of my comrade ever said, "I can't wait to find out what Chris Matthews says about this!" or "Did you see Chris Matthews last night?"

I think that guy is like the Chris Berman of MSNBC. They keep him around because they think he's indispensable, but in reality no one actually likes him.

Not particularly. You have to sift through so much madness to find the occasional small nugget of worthwhile insight.

That doesn't even make sense. She's too stupid to be subtle, she's incapable of "dog whistle" politics. That's why she just blatantly said Obama pals around with terrorists, and wanted to push the Rev. Wright connection and said "don't retreat, reload". This fits perfectly with someone who can't tiptoe around edges with a nod and a wink.

It doesn't make her necessarily racist... but she is blatantly pandering to racists who hate Obama because Obama is part black.

I kind of like him, but only because he looks more and more haggard and broken as time goes on. I keep watching because one day he's going to be pulling his tie off, lighting up a smoke, and pouring himself a fifth shot of bourbon on camera, and it'll be awesome.
