I loved XM and hated the Sirius format changes when they took over. It seemed the playlists were cut in half and some genres were cut out completely.

I loved Sirius, and hated how shallow and censored the playlists became when they merged with XM.

The first time I heard the shiatty XM obscure classic rock channel (Deep Tracks, I think) play Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick after the content merger, they cut out of the song in under 10 minutes. Sirius's obscure classic rock channel (The Vault?) would always play all 45 minutes of the album.

That was when I knew the music side had turned to shiat.

I dropped them when they put the RIAA fees on it.

"Oh, we aren't raising rates, those are fees".

I've been stuck with a rental car for two weeks that doesn't have satellite radio and the local radio here in St. Louis has about driven me bonkers. I'm not a fan of the merged XM/Sirius: but its still a 100 times better than terrestrial radio.

Fewer channels, higher quality please. Talk channels sound like they're underwater.

I'm not paying $20/month for the five channels I listen to.

I'm not paying extra for web streaming when it used to be free to subscribers with XM.

Give me POTUS XM130 and Raw Dog Comedy and I'll give you a couple bucks. If not, I'll continue plugging in my phone and listening to podcasts on long drives.

Probably going to drop my sub within the next month or so.

First there were the RIAA fees, now a $2/month hike (I could live with that), but in the New Year they'll start charging $4/month for streaming. Tally it all up and it amounts to a 40% increase over the last 5 years.

Add that to the fact that Howard's down to 3 days/week now and the value just isn't there anymore.....

its because they were prohibited from raising rates until jan 1 of this year due to their merge. they were facing losing a 12.5 loss that they moved to the subscriber. not perfect but it was what they had to do.

/not defending them.
//worked in retention for a couple of months while in college yr and a half ago.

the worst days were when they would replace one channel with another (enlighten) bbc1. also one week they had the website's main page covered with the nirvana album. i was called a pedophile for that one.

Ugh.
Commercials during the Robin's news...read live.
Commercials on replays. I understand the need to do commercials on live shows (bathroom, food) but during replays, best of, etc?
Howard three days a week. Constant Ashley Madison commercials.

I will admit I like the music if for no other reason than it has opened me up to a whole bunch of music I normally wouldn't be exposed to....
JamON
Greatful Dead Channel
Jazz and Classical stations

And the regular rock stations are so infinitely better than the local DC stations.

From Philly to Boston: Jazz and Classical stations

They got rid of my favorite station (outside of MLB Network Radio) - The CinemaScape Channel (don't remember exact name). It was a great channel which played the scores - not soundtracks, scores - to movies and TV shows. It was fantastic, especially since it wasn't just "popular" films, but even old or obscure ones. Now, it's a 1-hour "feature" on the Classical channel that plays once a week (with an repeat the following night). Guh.

How can any company have tough financial times with 22 million subscribers? Did they forget to charge them?

IIRC, they count free trial service in new cars as "subscriptions", and other shady shiat like that to artificially inflate their numbers so it looks good to investors.

Why would you pay for something like Sirius when Slacker is free?
