You have your version .. I have mine.. Incorrectly Attributed to Aphex in the title.. It was Alpha Team.

And I have no qualms with the findings of this article.

/Aside from the fact that I will always think of "Bound" before The Matrix when I think of the Wachowskis

It may have been. Those crazy bastards certainly have vision.

Because it was turrible

Go Go Go Speed Racer!

I'm a pirate and I like to kill.

I'm your doctor and here's the bill.

I'm a Barbie Doll and I like sex.

(y'all are talking about the Devo version?)

As for the movie, I liked it though it can be somewhat headache-inducing, what with the vivid colors and fast pans.

Just looking at the 10 frames of film from that article makes my eyes ache. I think there is less color on the album art for "Sgt. Pepper".

It was a great adaptation of the source material. The old cartoon wasn't exactly high art. I'd rather the movie have fun with the material, like they did, than to try to make it "realistic" or "gritty" and end up just a copy of Fast and Furious.

I'm pretty sure watching speed racer increases your risk of retinal detachment. Or epilepsy.

2012-10-25 11:44:53 AM
I enjoyed the movie because I understood I was going to see a movie about Speed Racer, which was a ridiculously animated cartoon with almost no plot that got by on quirky style alone (and peopletalkingreallyfastwithoutbreathingorputtingspacesbetweenwordshuah ).

Therefore, I was expecting a movie about Speed Racer, which would be visually ridiculous, have a fairly weak plot, and get by on quirky style alone. That's exactly what it was.

2012-10-25 11:48:39 AM
If they edited it down, I would have loved it more.
Other than that, it's a fun movie. I own the dvd.
If you're pissed about it, well, go farking die cause there's more to be pissed about than a farking cartoon of a movie.

2012-10-25 11:53:17 AM
Story and acting is completely useless and lame.

That being said, the visuals are crazy good and interesting.

I basically feel that watching the movie is the closest I will come to going on some kind of drug sweet drug trip.

SOOO much THIS.

This is a faithful adaption of the old cartoon/early anime. But it's too visually stimulating. It's painful to look at.

One of my favorite movies of recent years. People will come around. That's an excellent movie.

I've always wanted to make a speed racer movie with a gritty, crime syndicate, drug running plot. I think the source material lends itself well.

It's not bad for what they're working with. My kids dig it

It was a fun movie. That said, the bit at the end with Inspector Detector and Racer X is pretty dark and all kinds of awesome.

Did you ever think you made a mistake, hiding the truth from them?

It absolutely is (note his screen name too). I was excited when the original Speed Racer was available on NetFlix and I could watch it with my (then 3.5 y.o. son). About 5 minutes in I turned it off and looked at him and said, "Sorry about that. That show was terrible."

I have a copy and watch it whenever I need a pick me up.
It's quite entertaining, actually.

Bwhahahahahahahaahah!

Original Anime: Clunky pos that only worked because it was one of the first Japanese imports, seriously the cartoon is awful.

Movie: Adaptation of absurd material that John Goodman and Susan Sarandon make awsome.

Shut up, subby, I dug the hell out of Speed Racer.

Oh. The remake of the shaitty tv cartoon.

Look
Remakes of shiatty cartoons are just as shaitty.

I also love that movie. John Goodman is farking great. Even when confronted by a cartoon ninja, he'll growl "you come in here, and threaten MY family?" in a scarily brutal way.

-would enjoy a cut where every scene of Speed's little brother and the monkey are deleted-

2012-10-25 01:22:58 PM
I like bad movies as much as anyone but that was an abortion of an abortion. But I didnt really like speed racer in the first place so meh.

2012-10-25 01:24:29 PM
my one real disappointment with it was that there was not a single instance, NOT ONE INSTANCE of anyone going 'haha!' in the middle of something they said.

that said, it was a fantastic salute to the original show. hyperkinetic, color, TONS of style which those crazy shiats can do in spades.

yeah, on many levels it was terrible, but you can say that about many many movies.

I love the movie. The visuals are absolutely amazing, but can be headache-inducing. I will watch it whenever it's on TV. It is perfect viewing for when you're drunk. I seriously don't understand the hate for it - it's not supposed to be realistic, just quirky and unusual.

This movie is the most faithful recreation of source material ever.

If you hated the movie, you hate Speed Racer. If that's true, what the hell were you watching the movie for anyway?

I've never seen a more migraine-inducing piece of video than that movie. Stopped watching about halfway through.

Spritle and Chim-chim were the worst part of the show. They were also the worst part of the movie. So at least they were accurate in the adaptation.

Hey Speed, try locking your trunk once in a while. Or just weld the farking thing shut. It's been used as a hiding place way too many times.

2012-10-25 02:17:17 PM
Isn't there a cartoon with Speed's kids?

2012-10-25 02:25:39 PM
I thought the first Speed Racer was fine, but the second one where they're on a ship wasn't very good. It didn't even have the Christopher Reeves character.

CSB time

I broke my leg a couple years ago. Which meant that I got to ride the gimp scooters at different stores. So naturally, I downloaded the Speed Racer theme, plugged speakers into my MP3 player, and would putt around Walmart in the scooter playing that song at full volume. People would either look at me like I was crazy, or would laugh at the inherent silliness of it.

Oh, they're talking about the movie. I have never heard of it referred to as a 'masterpiece'. I'm guessing that is because it was, as I have frequently heard it described, crap.

I think a lot of people went because it was made by the Wachowski's and were disappointed because it wasn't Matrix-ish.

It did have some car-fu, though. They did their best to shove some Matrix-style shots into it.

I'm a sucker for well done eye candy, so Speed Racer is a guilty pleasure for me. Even without the influence of drugs, I love the rich visuals. If you have a good HDTV, it's a must-own on Blu-Ray just so you can drink in the spectacle.
