Voter turnout is bad for Republicans. Period. Their base is reliable, but small and ever-shrinking (their largest demographic are voters 60+ years old).

Romney won't win on personality or policies or platform or because people think he's better. If he wins, it will be due to voter purging, voter ID laws, restricting early voting, and all the other crap Republicans pull, because they know that their ideas aren't popular enough to win elections on their own.

2012-10-25 01:38:28 AM
That's kinda why I left that damn party. That's the strategy, accuse others of what you are doing yourself. And don't just make one comment, make it a mantra of what the other party is trying to do. Get the base outraged at this threat. And if you get caught, justify it with everyone else did it first.

The problem is, if you find it in your own party, you should also get damn mad as hell that it exists. And put a stop to it.

The Democrats have played nice for so long, they've forgotten how to play loud and dirty. Either that, or they really are doing the same thing and are scared of having it found out. At this point, I'm not sure which is worse. This is the kind of thing that needs to be a banner headline in all newspapers coast to coast tomorrow morning, and lead the AM newscasts on every major station, especially after all the jumping up and down the Republicans have been doing about "voter fraud" and "we need voter ID laws!" all over the nation. Everyone needs to know that there IS voter fraud, and it's THE REPUBLICANS WHO ARE DOING MOST OF IT, and as loudly and often as it happens.

I'm a cynic.

You know what the difference is between a cynic and an idealist is?
Repeated disappointment.

I want us to be better, I want us to live up to our ideals and to make our country an example of good for the world and for future generations.

However it seems to me that the only people that both think AND act that way are the most naive. After watching the GOP during my lifetime I can see that we are in an ever growing battle for the spirit of the country. And just like any civil war it has divided us more over time. And just like any civil war, it's having it's casualties, among them my intolerance for doing whatever it takes to win.

Is it wrong? Of course. But how many people in the history of everything have had to sacrifice their own ideals and integrity for the hope that just maybe something better may come of it? A younger me would have said that no good can come from no good. The 18y/o me that signed up to serve our nation would have told you when you lower yourself to your enemies level you become your enemy.

But I just don't know that I believe that anymore.

Speaking of Palm Beach County, they're about to fark up another election. Apparently the screwed up with their ballot design and didn't include all of the legally required information on the ballot header, something that didn't get noticed until AFTER the invalid ballots got sent out to absentee voters. Now, the canvassing board is having to not just do their normal job of verifying that the absentee ballots are legit, they're having to take the ballots and re-bubble in the votes on the valid ballots.

And this is why seemingly inconsequential issues like the whole Romney-Voting-Machine (seattletimes.com) ownership topic are relevant.

The chances that a GOP entity or person such as a Romney family member or persons associated with the GOP candidate will try some underhanded trick is extremely high simply based on historical events. Had the GOP had as a history, established a pattern of policing itself and suppressing corruption in its base as it has a pattern of ignoring that possible corruption, they might receive a little more leeway before the accusations starting flying of fraud, corruption and cronyism on the GOP's part. This holds true as well for anti-womens' issues, anti-ethnic issues, heck, anything that is an anti-anything-that-is-not-a-white-christian-male-issue.

So at a time when a group like the GOP should be on their best behavior so as to remove all doubt or any hint of corruption, they continue to talk out of both sides of their mouths and then get indignant when their less than well thought out plans are revealed.

Well enough typing on this. The conservatives who need to read this have left the thread with some shiny vaginal probe like object that caught their attention already.

They already did this in Indiana. SCOTUS ruled that because less than 5% of eligible voters would be ineligible for the required ID it was OK.

Then their candidate for Sec of State, who won the election, was found guilty of knowingly voting in the wrong precinct so he would retain eligiblity for a back-up job or something. His name was Charlie White. His argument was that voting laws weren't important or effective so who cares who votes where. Doing that is a felony, felons can't hold elected office, and the present Sec of State is a Daniels appointee. Couldn't have a Democrat hold position of overseeing elections after all, they are not to be trusted, so the courts ruled that White's opponent couldn't win by default.

Overzealous staffer? Or is this an evil Liberal plot to steal the election for the Republicans but get caught and so blame the Republicans for yet another election theft attempt?

You decide at six.

GhostFish: Oh, but when Laura Roslin tries to steal an election you're all for it. Typical libs.

Citation please.

Probably it is BS but I'll let you humor me. It would be something new if Democrats started acting like Republicans.

Assuming you have even ONE legitimate attempt by Democrats to commit election fraud(which if true is still not acceptable), that pales in comparison to the amount of Republican attempts EVERY SINGLE ELECTION since I have been old enough to pay attention.

Is there anyone out there counting them? That would seriously be useful. So many examples of them doing this, one gets desensitized to it and its very difficult to keep track of them all.

Wait a minute... where are all the usual troll suspects rushing to distract and deflect away from this story? We should have had at least 2 comments so far by them bringing up "similar" vote fraud allegations and/or Acorn jabs from sometime in the past 20 years. Troll Right Wingers hate facts. So when a story is based in fact and is supported with other facts, the TRWs tend to slink back to the sewer to feed I guess.

If they had a reasonable rebuttal, I am sure it would be presented. As it is so often, they do not have a leg to stand on, it is either redirect with flame-bait or slink away with their patented squishy slimy sound.
