Never thought I'd be sympathetic to Tom Cruise.
The money amount is over the top but still.

This ended well for the last actor to sue a website/magazine for 50 million dollars over publishing something they didn't like.
It's not like Tom will get an affect named after him on the interwebz or something, right?
Right?
Oh fark.

/Remembers his history.
//Streisand effect started with a lawsuit over the exact same sum of money.

How is it abandonment to let the other party have custody? Especially when there's no reason the other party shouldn't have custody? (ie, no claims of abuse, instability, etc). Not that I'm defending Cruise, I'm glad Katie has custody.

Depends on your definition of abandonment. Either way, Tom Cruise is a public figure, the bar for defamation is significantly higher for public figures.

My definition would be: letting the other party bear complete responsibility (emotionally, financially, materially, etc) for raising the child. Granted, that view comes from my own experience being raised by a single mom with NO farking support from my father. Not one penny of child support. (My father would quit his job and mooch off relatives before allowing his wages to be garnished).

Sometimes, one parent is better at raising the child as sole custodian - but that doesn't absolve the other parent of some measure of support/help.
