FTA: (T)he campaign of GOP presidential nominee MItt Romney quickly distanced itself from the comment. Yet it remains an issue that won't go away for Romney, whose campaign still backs the Hoosier Republican, if not his position.

He was saying that while the pregnancy itself is still a travesty, the rape is a gift from God. That's all he was sayin'.

Borrowing from another Farker:

When in the waning days of the campaign you are required to call press conferences to clarify that you do, in fact, "abhor rape", you are doing it wrong.

Personally, I blame women.

Not for being raped, but for letting Republicans get elected at all. Seriously ladies, you make up 50% of the electorate. Time to setup up and put us men our place. Tell these GOP a-holes to shut up and sit down.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

No one has seemed to give a satisfactory answer yet in the past...2300 years? That long already?

As a real conservative I have to say that the pregnancy is whatever the mother says it is.

If I were in this guy's state, I'd vote for the dem JUST to make a point. I'll take liberal policies over a republican too stupid to learn from Akin.

In Missouri, Hoosier is interchangeable with redneck or hillbilly. So I read that and was like "Hoosier Republican? Quit repeating yourself, son."

Republicans are okay with rape. That's all there is to it. This is, what, the third major candidate this year alone to come out making positive comments about rape. And every time you get a divide: republicans who either back those comments, or republicans who try to punt on them. Only in a few instances do you get republicans who outright condemn them, and even then they rarely bother to condemn the sick pervert who actually made the comments.

Republicans just don't care about women getting raped. At best they view it as an annoying political issue, more commonly, they either just don't care or they think it's something inconsequential to be made light of or viewed positively.

Republicans are sick motherfarkers.

Shrugging Atlas: When reached for comment, Richard Lugar was heard laughing in disgust before calmly stating, "Fark both of these guys."

Yup.

Ryan has yet to comment on the rape remarks, but he has close ties to Mourdock, who ousted the comparatively moderate Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) in a bitter primary.

They decried Lugar as a RINO and booted him. However, hopefully shiat like this will wake people up to how far to the right The American Taliban actually is

Just think.

Decades from now when they're telling the story of the 2012 Election, they're actually going to have to spend a relatively significant amount of time explaining that the GOP actually tried to say that rape is OK because God made it happen.

My favorite line from the article:

When a reporter asked Mourdock to clarify that he was not apologizing for his actual comments, but instead apologizing for how they were interpreted, Mourdock responded, "That's correct."

Nice... good work with the damage control...

2012-10-24 03:52:58 PM
"I absolutely abhor violence. I abhor any kind of sexual violence. I abhor rape. And I am absolutely confident, as I stand here, that the God that I worship abhors violence, abhors sexual violence, and abhors rape," he said.

abhor [ab-hawr]
Part of Speech: verb
Definition: regard with contempt or disgust
Synonyms: abominate, be allergic to, be down on, be grossed out by, despise, detest, hate, have no use for, loathe, scorn

Out of the words he could have chosen, he had to choose the word with "whore" in it.

I gotta say, big kudos to that reporter. That's right folks, Mourdock is very sorry you misinterpreted him.

I'm not holding my breath. These jackwagon rightwing farks cost the GOP at least two Senate seats in 2010 as well...including Reid's. And here we are again with Missouri and Indiana both likely staying/going blue respectively for the exact same reasons.

At the outset there was almost nobody who wasn't thinking the GOP had a real shot at taking a Senate Majority. Now with this Indiana development it's possible they end up with LESS seats than they had before (assuming you count King in Maine as a D and he wins as expected).

God is either A) non-existent, B) not omnipotent and omniscient, or C) he's a hateful douchebag.

Most Republicans seem to believe C, so Mourdock's stance should fit right in.

The best part is, they STILL won't learn their lesson. The Tea party is going to double down on the Derp and say the reason they lost the Senate was because they weren't Republican Pure enough and demand their next presidential candidate to be Sarah Palin approved.

Reposted because I wanna say it again:

This is really quite sad...

God used to be such an up and up guy... if he was gonna knock a chick up...he came down as the Holy Insemenator and did the work himself... quality work...good seed too. I mean the last kid he spawned could levitate AND transfigure.

Seems like he's down on his luck having to resort to third rate hoodlums, perverted dads, teachers or coaches and hardcore rapists to do the deed for him...

Think he's just getting old? Do they make Viagra for deities? Maybe he's just down in his back....

It's good that he's letting the repulsicans know that he's using a stand in... otherwise we would have mistakenly sent these guys to prison... nay... death row... for doing god's holy work.

And lil missies like me would have totally missed out on what an honor it was to have these filthy, diseased, insane monsters wallowing around in our ladyparts.

Yeah. It's going to be amusing if Mourdock manages to lose the Senate race to Donnelly - Lugar's seat was considered completely safe for Republicans for a looooong time. He was the right's Ted Kennedy - the guy who was going to be in the Senate until he keeled over. Tea party is possibly handing it straight to the Dems (Donnelly was like 2 points up last week, 3 points down yesterday, I really look forward to next week's polls). Granted, Donnelly is pro-life, but he's NORMAL pro-life, so he allows abortions for rape/incest and life of the mother.

They totally deserve it for dumping Lugar. It's actually pretty sad that Mourdock was probably going to win a close race before this comment and subsequent non-apology, as he's right there with Joe Walsh for "biggest ass the Tea Party has nominated" (and that's quite a contest).

The only good thing that comes from these sorts of statements is that it sparks the kinds of discussions that allows you to back fundies into logical corners:

"If God is omnipotent, omniscient and benevolent, then why does rape happen?"

"Because free will"

"so that means He is either not omniscient and omnipotent, or not benevolent at all"

"No, it's all part of God's plan!"

"So there is no free will"

Rinse and repeat.

/personally, I think if there is a higher power, He/She/It does not give a flying pygmy fark about what us sacks of meat do to each other here on earth. So, why worry about His opinion?
//just don't be an asshole.
