Ulgh. I'm so tired of articles like this. Yes, yes, we know. We are an incredibly superficial species that rewards those who look like they have better genetic material for breeding, even if we aren't the ones breeding with them.

Physical attractiveness is only one of many genetically-influenced determinants of suitibility for survival. Just because it's phsyically superficial doesn't mean it's the only genetically-deteremined trait that gets rewarded with higher pay. If you substitute intelligence for good looks you will probably find similar results.

Or height - as I remember it, about 4 inches taller equates to about the same increase in pay as male over female, or white over black, and something like 90% of all CEOs are above average height, and 75% are over 6ft.

Based off the offers I'm getting fresh out of a high-tier CS college:

$55-60K in the Midwest, $70-80K (possibly +stock) in Chicago or on the coasts, going up between 50-100% in 5 years.

/Of course, ageism means you're unemployable by 35, but then you either found your own business, take a small paycut and go work for [random corp] for 20-30 years until you pension out, or move sideways into management.

Seriously though, ageism means 35-50-ish you don't get the most desirable positions and you have to blackmail your way into an interview after that. If your skills are useful there are still too few people in tech, and even a decade after the dot-com boom.

Hope that authors life work isn't all the one sided tripe he is pushing. I'm confident I'm not the only one who may avoid or dislike some people solely on their cosmetic appearance. Attractive people have often proven to be rude, pushy, conceited, one dimensional, lacking in moral content and all sorts of other negative descriptions. I've met many lookers who never had to develop a personality because they skated by on what mother nature gave them. All too often they are the biggest dooshbags in the workplace, men and women alike, and I avoid their type accordingly.

I've dated some really good looking women. Most of them are so-so and are dead in the sack. Give me a Plain Jayne or a chunky-chubby girl any day. They tend to be good fun, are down to earth, and are much more in touch with their sexuality. Of course, this is a generalization. But overall most hotties really aren't worth the time of day. Models & actresses are usually deeply troubled head cases. No thanks.

No - I was hired two years ago as a code monkey at 48 years old. I don't like this job much and feel confident of being able to find a better one - at 50 years old.

Yeah, but that doesn't require beautiful people. Uncle Moose has one ugly mug, and he did really, really well in sales until the construction industry collapsed out from underneath him.
