Jiro Dreams Of McRibs: Googling the term "Stage 3" yields two ads, both for cancer. The first disease cited in links is cancer. Like it or not--whether it's Obama saying it or Coulter saying it--"stage 3" is associated with cancer by the hoi polloi. If the reference had been used in front of an audience of doctors or patients, then "stage 3" would have different connotations.

You claim "stage 3 Romnesia" would be taken by the hoi polloi as "stage 3 some type of cancer" as opposed to "stage 3 of this hilarious new medical condition called Romnesia." You base this on "googling for stage 3 comes up with Cancer and also Ann Coulter."

I counter with you have to be a farking dumbshiat to think in context, after Obama gave multiple examples of Romney forgetting what political position he supports, "stage 3 Romnesia" is a cancer reference.

You're straining really hard there, be careful you'll hurt something.

Let me do something you seem incapable of doing. Quote someone accurately.

Ann Coulter tweeted this:

Obama: "Stage 3 Romneysia" - because cancer references are HILARIOUS. If he's "the smartest guy in the room" it must be one retarded room.

If you have a problem with Romneysia being confused with cancer, you should tweet Ann Coulter. She's the one who mentioned cancer in her tweet.

Regarding the use of "stage 3", I'm not grasping at anything. The only use of "stage 3" in my life has been in cancer cases my loved ones have experienced. My mother suffered through Alzheimer's and not one doctor used the term "stage 3" to describe her symptoms. Now that might be a comment regarding the quality of care in Arizona but regardless I'm sorry to inform you--as I pointed out by searching for the use of "stage 3" on the web--that "stage 3" is associated with cancer in the minds of many if not most people. Including, as evidenced by the accurate quote above, by Ann Coulter. Sorry if you don't like it, but it is what it is.

I get that using the word retard publicly could be hurtful, but I don't know of anyone who uses that word for people with cognitive issues. It is used for people who are of at least of average intelligence who do something unbelievably, draw-droppingly stupid. The word has become like idiot or imbecile - words that once had clinical meaning but no longer are used for anything other than the pejorative.

For example, thinking that Romneysia, a clear reference to amnesia, is a reference to cancer is retarded. And, if someone with Downs Syndrome called me out for using that word, I would apologize to him and explain that I was in no way referring to anyone with intellectual disabilities. I meant someone who is stupid, like Ann Coulter.

Yes, Ann Coulter did indeed take that snippet out of context and completely change its meaning. How on earth does this help your argument?

Here, let me do something you seem incapable of doing. Quoting someone accurately and honestly. You know, with the proper context:

In a world of new threats and profound challenges, America needs leadership that is strong and is steady. Governor Romney's foreign policy has been wrong and reckless. Last night he was all over the map. Did you notice that? During the debate he said he didn't want more troops in Iraq, but he was caught on video saying it was unthinkable not to leave 20,000 troops in Iraq, troops that would still be there today.

Last night he claimed to support my plan to end the war in Afghanistan. I'm glad he supports it. But he's opposed a timeline that would actually bring our troops home. Early in this campaign he said he'd do the opposite of whatever I did in Israel, but last night I reminded him that cooperation with Israel has never been stronger. (Applause.)

Last night he said he always supported taking out Osama bin Laden, but in 2007, he said it wasn't worth moving heaven and earth to catch one man.

Now, we've come up with a name for this condition. It's called Romnesia. (Applause.)

AUDIENCE: Romnesia! Romnesia! Romnesia!

THE PRESIDENT: We had a severe outbreak last night. (Applause.) It was at least stage three Romnesia. (Laughter and applause.) And I just want to go over with you some of the symptoms, Delray, because I want to make sure nobody in the surrounding area catches it. (Laughter.) If you say that you love American cars during a debate, but you wrote an article titled, "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt," you might have Romnesia. (Applause.)

Here are a bunch of examples of Romney flip flopping and forgetting his original stance. A play on the word amnesia. "A severe outbreak of Romnesia." Yet you think a reasonable interpretation is Obama is thinking about cancer. No word yet on why he called it Romnesia like amnesia and not Romnoma since the names of cancers end in -oma.

Jiro Dreams Of McRibs: If you have a problem with Romneysia being confused with cancer, you should tweet Ann Coulter. She's the one who mentioned cancer in her tweet.

Yes, she incorrectly mentioned cancer in her tweet. Only a farking moran would think cancer. Why am I replying to you rather than Ann Coulter? Gee, I forget:

Benign growths or tumors are usually noted by adding the ending "-oma." For example, adenoma would be a benign growth of the adrenal cortex, a hormone-producing group of cells near the kidney. Malignant tumors are noted by adding "sarcoma" or "carcinoma".

Yes. Obama got up in front of a microphone and said "Stage 3." He then walked away. The rest of the context is irrelevant. So naturally it makes sense that people thought "stage 3 cancer."

This must mean that:
1) You're an idiot.

4. You're an idiot.

ERMAGERD! SOMEONE POINTED OUT THAT PHRASES HAVE CONNOTATIONS THAT VARY WITH THE AUDIENCES THAT HEAR THEM!!1! ERMAGERD!

Obama could have used a different phrase. Had he done so Coulter couldn't have exploited that phrase by comparing it to cancer. The reason why, as I pointed out above, she could exploit "stage 3" by linking it to cancer is because of many, if not most, Americans experiences with the phrase "stage 3". I'm sure the common cold has different stages but since they aren't often possibly fatal, there probably aren't the emotional connotations attached to "stage 3" colds as there to "stage 3" cancers.

And that's why she chose to use the term "cancer".

Correct, if someone wanted to reference a tumor, they would add either "-oma" or " sarcoma/carcinoma." Therefore when Obama added "-nesia" it makes complete sense to you that Ann Coulter thought he was referencing cancer.

Nice argument you've got going on there. Shame if you turned your brain on and saw how stupid you look.

By the way, I got no beef with using wikipedia, good for you. But wikipedia is not always correct.

Medulloblastoma is a highly malignant primary brain tumor that originates in the cerebellum or posterior fossa...
Melanoma Listen/ˌmɛləˈnoʊmə/ (from Greek μέλας - melas, "dark") is a malignant tumor of melanocytes
Neuroblastoma is one of the few human malignancies
Retinoblastoma is a malignant tumor on the retina, the light-sensing part of the eye, and is highly curable if treated early

I'm not insinuating Obama talked about cancer. I'm saying:

1. Obama used a term that millions of Americans associate, due to their personal experiences, with cancer.

2. Either Ann Coulter believes that "stage 3" connotes cancer or she exploited that notion in the minds of millions of Americans by blatantly stating Obama talked about cancer. I can't decide which one. Maybe you can.

But so what? So what if it implied cancer???? Do you think some diseases are funner than others? Can't you just see it for what it is, a clever play on words--Romney's name and amnesia combined, to poke fun at his absurd lapses in memory of what his platform was the hour before?

Exactly. Obama used the term "Stage 3" because many diseases - including cancer - progress in stages. You and Ann Coulter apply one usage of "Stage 3" to mean "cancer" so that you then get to shoehorn in all kinds of other presidential criticisms.

Most other people leave it be because they understand that calling Mitt's position uncertainty "Stage 3" is humorous because "Stage 3" implies an advanced case. Taking one of many implications and assuming Obama meant the "worst" political one just so you can call him names and claim he's insensitive to cancer patients reveals the arguer as partisan (and not just because it's ludicrous to think that Obama, himself the son of a cancer victim, is insensitive to those suffering from cancer).

It suggests you're so partisan, in fact, that every reading of every phrase would be spun in the most negative way possible. Just so's you know, that becomes a lens through which we read your posts. It's like the boy who cried "Outrage!" - someday, you might actually be legitimately offended, and no one will care.

I'm sorry if you think I'm partisan against Obama. If anything, I'm partisan for Obama. I am truly worried that people like Coulter and Romney will run the White House again.

I think it's fair to say Obama inadvertantly connoted cancer and Coulter purposefully denoted it. And those are two very different things.

You don't get to only admit that Bush was president when it's convenient for you.

Also: Defend Coulter all you like, he's still not gonna have sex with you.

I'm hardly surprised that she doubled down on the derp. That's how she's made a living for a long time. I do find it amusing that she'll try and spin that Obama is in the wrong for referencing cancer, which is HILARIOUS, by referencing "retard", again.

Thigvald the Big-Balled: Kuta: Where's Sarah Palin's outrage?

Right here.

OMG.

This just keeps getting better and better. Coulter injects cancer, Palin injects "shuck and jive". Is Gingrich going to show up pants-less at the Lincoln Memorial and deliver his famous "I have a boner" speech?

The GOP is straight up coming unhinged.

God-is-a-Taco: Make sure you greenlight every story about her you moronic admins

I remember what happened the last time the admins greenlit every single story about a controversial figure.

Fark developed a mighty strong hankerin' for tacos.
