This is great stuff! Let me draw the track out for the people's minds to race on:

He goes forth to his constituents to tell them he feels for them, he knows they're struggling economically, well, because everyone is. He doesn't outright call them poor, he says he feels their pain, and alludes to them being the real poor people in America, not those Welfare Queens, but the one's that want to be successful if it weren't for Obama holding them back and keeping them down. He has a plan to return them ot their former glory, and he'll enact that plan if they just get him into office, though he won't say what it is till he gets there (as my mother says: The Left will steal his idea and make it their own...), so vote for him and they'll make everybody non-poor!

It's great use of the English language and much the way Ghost Talkers work a room. He first makes blanket statements to allow people to put themselves into the class he wants to help out. Odds are, these people are not poor, but much like everyone in America not making mid 6 figures, they've had to cut back. They had to choose between cable and satellite TV, they couldn't afford to keep both. They've cut into their vacation budget, so they can't go to Hawaii this year, they may have to go to the Caribbean instead. Little things that add up, and surely I am making light of the situation, but that's because it needs to be made fun of.

The true poor of this nation were not at this rally. The attendees are much like my parents: Well off, but not as well off as they were last decade. It's not Obama's fault, but they're long time Republicans and that's just the way they're wired. They started using coupons and buying the brands on sale instead of blindly buying what they liked. They suddenly began price comparing of products to see what was the better value. In 'Murica, Real 'MuricansTM don't have to use coupons and price compare, they buy what they want because 'Murica is prosperous! Obama is to blame for all of this.

Now that the crowd has placed themselves into a position of 'being poor', he then tells them: "Here's how we fix the problem of the poor in the nation..." and doesn't actually give any details, just a feel good RAH RAH speech about how they are the true answer to the problem with America. He's preaching to his congregation, nothing more. Those people walked out of the rally with the same exact amount of information regarding the Romney's economic policies as they did walking in, but left 'feeling better' about the whole situation.

There was zero substance. It like going to see a Tribute Band. Sure, they played the songs you wanted to hear, they played them well, and in the end, you're entertained, but in the end, you paid some money for to hear a second rate bunch of failed musicians play for you because you couldn't afford to see the real band... wait for it... because Obama!

So in other words, it's someone else's problem

2012-10-24 11:04:33 AM
His solution: The government needs to help the poor less, but help the rich more and give them tax breaks.

/he actually thinks this

2012-10-24 11:04:53 AM
"...make the case that Americans stuck in poverty cannot afford four more years like the last four and that Mitt Romney offers a better pathway for low-income Americans to improve their lives through opportunity and upward mobility than the failed policies of President Obama."

Uh-huh. And why do I suspect that this will be more of the same "rising tide lifts all boats" bullsh*t the GOP likes to say when it really means "tax cuts for the rich and deregulation, despite being demonstrable failures of the past"? But this time it will work!

Well, people are addicted to welfare, especially the food stamps. If you stop feeding their habit the won't be a problem after a while.

Just two weeks before voters cast their ballots, Paul Ryan will try out a new argument: The Republican ticket will do more to help the poor. He will spell out a conservative, non-government-focused model for addressing poverty.

Let me guess: it rhymes with "Fax butts door fuh stitch".

This is the new Republican "Christian" talking point. That the government shouldn't play a role in "charity" (ie helping the poor, don't touch their Medicare), but that it should be left to individuals.

Next up: That the government shouldn't fund biomedical research, because privatization makes everything better.

2012-10-24 02:05:40 PM
Let me guess: He'll raise an army of volunteers to go wash poor people's already-clean dishes?

Less assistance, more taxes. You need more skin in the game. It will motivate you to be a better citizen.

2012-10-24 02:08:09 PM
It's a great idea: Take the burden off the federal government! Let state and local government do more! They can afford it better!

I'm not sure which states he's thinking about, but I know mine can't afford to take care of anything NOW; we sure can't do it better with LESS federal support.

2012-10-24 02:08:17 PM
He will spell out a conservative, non-government-focused model for addressing poverty.

If it is a non-government solution, he doesn't need to be in government to execute such a model, now does he? I look forward to Ryan implementing his plan as a private citizen.

I rish I knew what you were talking about...

2012-10-24 02:12:10 PM
Yeah... Republicans really care about the poor and working poor.

I mean just listen to what they say when they think they aren't being recorded:

"All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

It's obvious they care a great deal about the poor...
