(The Sun)   Music store chain bans garish tattoos and long hair, because only old people who are scared of young punks with garish tattoos and long hair still shop at music chain stores. In related news, there are still music chain stores   (thesun.co.uk) divider line 18

But remember, even the oldest 'old' people who may find themselves in HMV are from the rock 'n' roll era of the 50s, and won't all be dedicated to listen to Val Doonican now.
Mostly the older customers will have come out of the glam and punk eras and so will have 'seen it all' and surely won't be phased by a tattoo or piercing.
Seems this policy is way out of touch. Bit weird really. So long as the staff are nice people, what they look like is almost academic in stores like this. Not so sure this look will work in John Lewis or Marks & Spencer, though.
Name badges are always good, so at least you know you are talking to someone who actually works there.

As someone who works at a music store, I'm really getting a kick...

We've had plenty of long-haired, tattooed people work here and on average, they were actually better salespeople than the clean-cut folks.

So there's your anecdote for the day.

More jobs that long haired freaking people need not apply to.

It's a, um...er..., a clue, a foreshadowing of things to come

If they also ban baggy pants, sports gear, and gold chains, they will pretty much eliminate everyone who actually makes the product they sell. Smart!

For the most part, if you're are not getting the music digitally at this point, the headline is pretty accurate in many areas of the country.

The curse of New Management. Stupid assholes with that lovely and winning combination of ignorance and arrogance swoop in like seagulls, make a lot of noise, crap all over everything, and then fly away, leaving everyone else to clean up the mess.

"That 'wheel' thing, let's invent it again, but without all that obscene roundness."
"Why are the computers using Linus when Apples don't get viruses?"
"All we are doing is cutting waste, like insurance and retirement benefits."
"How can they call it minimum wage when it's not zero?"
"Because I know our clients prefer to see men in speedos and girls in sexy turd sandwich costumes, that's why!"

Extra nasty in a time of surplus labor, when management seeks to reinforce the myth of their own value by inventing superfluous job requirements to increase their control over employees. When the revolution finally comes, we will need a really long wall for all these douchebags to line up against.

Hey, corporate assholes make decisions that fly in the face of the entire farking point of the company. Color me shocked.

Next up, "Corporation buys tattoo shop, decides to 'clean up the image', requires employees to cover tattoos and put on blue smocks."

I couldn't image that happening at Amoeba Music in Bazerkeley.

I try not to be discriminatory but I would buy something from a decorated person before buying it from someone clean cut.

The decorated person comes off as being more honest, trustworthy and focused on character. The clean cut person seems (to me) to think being boring and getting dressed in the morning means the world owes them a participation award for showing up.

We deal a lot with schools, so it takes all kinds. Just realized TFA is talking about record stores, in which case (backs out of thread slowly)...

Yes. All I heard in my head was Lucas saying "Well damn the man."
