I hope they work with Invicta FC instead of just pushing them aside or assimilating them.

...White, who had long rejected the idea of a women's division, deriding the quality of fighting and the depth of competition...

Translation: We desperately need marketable fighters to pad out our schedule and so long as people will turn in to watch one girl shiat all over her competition, forget everything I said about women sucking at this.

Probably won't be a division for quite some time, but Rousey (or whatever woman fighter happens to be popular at a given time) will do UFC shows as soon as Showtime cuts bait with Strikeforce. Welcome to several years ago.

Will it be more fundamentally sound?

i like how Ronda Rousey talks like she's stoned. She has a weird kind of SoCal stonerish drawl that is farking HOTTTTTTTTT.

and also how her last fight against I think Miesha Tate (or whatever), that gal was ilke, "ronda sucks, all she does is armbar people, that's her only move, I'm more technical, I can't wait to fight her."

and then Rousey armbars her with her arms at times, way hyperextended. there was criticism that the ref should have stopped the fight due to the potential of that chick gettingher arm snapped in half. and if i recall, that was the post-fight diagnosis. the chick refused to tap, the ref refused to end the fight, congratulations, discloated elbow/broken arm.

I never understood the reason why UFC didn't have a women's division. they never said it was about a lack of interest.

people want to engage in a sport, and there's some likelihood that people will watch, then let them engage

Eight classes ranging from "F*ck that skinny b*tch" to "Farkette".

They won't do weigh-ins, the girls will just call out the weight listed on their driver's licenses.

It wasn't the lack of interest as much as the galactically huge disparity in skill levels in such a small pool of talent.

And hopefully, adding a women's division to UFC will help that. UFC has a lot more money, which will attract more talent, thus improving the quality of competition.

None.

For starters, this talk is nothing more than ridiculousness being brought up to use as leverage against Showtime. Strikeforce is under same ownership as UFC, and they hate having strikeforce. Showtime, however, has the contract option(s) that are most important, and wants to remain a player. So Showtime says to Zuffa/Forza that they'll go get Bellator if Strikeforce folds tent, and Forza tosses this old garhage out as a way of reminding them that they'll take Rousey over to UFC if need be.

Also, even if they do hold women's fights in the UFC, it will be one or two names signed, and a few other girls to challenge the ones who actually draw working on single-fight contracts. There won't be an actual "division" that's a dozen or more fighters deep with most of them signed to multi-fight deals. Rousey is currently a 135-pound fighter, so if she remains undefeated until this mess gets sorted out, that will be the weight you'll see first. 145 would be next, followed by 125.

But you're talking a decade from now, this thing ain't close.

It'll happen within a year just because UFC needs to pad their ever increasing number of shows per year. People tune in to title fights no matter what and adding 1-3 more title fights is good for business even if there is a huge difference between the champion and the challanger. Hell, St Pierre has ruled the 170 class with nobody really close until he got injured and Silve has had 1 close match since he took the belt at 185 and people still tune in when those two headline the cards (even if Silva has to toy around with the challenger to make the fight last longer than 30 seconds).

Showtime will lose Strikeforce soon (didn't they have to cancel the last event?) because there is very little interest in their cards due to lack to name recognition even if the fights turn out to be decent. It'll be beneficial for everyone involved if Showtime gets Bellator however the only thing that Bellator has going for them is their tournamet set up and the fact that it is a weekly thing. I don't know how that will work on Showtime because if it doesn't work it'll be a bust just like Strikeforce.

Female fights in UFC will happen whenever Showtime allows it. Could be January 2013, could be July 2017. I think they'll hold onto Strikeforce for at least another calendar year. Otherwise, why would they be fighting for it now?

True women's divisions are a decade away.

I don't see what's changed in the last year since Dana said no. Ok, Rousey is turning into something of a star, but she's one fighter. The women's divisions aren't very deep, and the level of talent drops off significantly after the top four or five fighters. They're going to try to build a division around four fighters? Rousey is a draw, but so far she's a one trick pony. Sure, she's been very successful with that one trick, but she's had 6 professional fights in a soft division. She'll have continued success just because of the lack of talent in women's fighting, but she's essentially the female Cody Mckenzie. Is that enough to build a division around? How many times do we need to see Tate v Rousey, Rousey vs Kaufman, Tate vs Kaufman before people just lose interest? The Invicta stuff is interesting, but the level of skill from most of those fighters is noticeably lower than that of Rousey/Tate/Kaufman/Coenen/Santos. I understand that Dana White may be trying to capture the hype and attention that Rousey currently has and translate it into interest in women's MMA, but it seems like something that doesn't have a very long shelf life.

Yeah, this. And face it, very few people care about any female MMA fights other than Cyborg, Carano and Rousey. And even they don't have many fans other than the fact they are either a freak (Cyborg) or really hot with some talent. I hope it doesn't turn UFC into WWE with the "Divas" and crap like that.
