This idea makes me want to blow my brains out.

If they want a comedy, they should base it on "Smells like Nirvana". Link

2012-10-24 12:31:50 AM
I should submit a headshot to the producers.

2012-10-24 12:33:44 AM
Starring Courtney Love as the mom with a heart of gold?

No. Just no.

Which in turn was based on a deodorant targeted at teens.

Cue the Xzbit + Irony + Alanis Morisette please. In that same order.

WAT?

2012-10-24 12:57:26 AM
And if that's successful, they're doing a drama based on "Rape Me".

Oh, wait, NBC has that. They call it "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit".

Don't they have to wait for another station to come out with a "More Than A Feeling" sitcom first?

The Food Network will be doing a new show based on the song Hollaback Girl.

Better than a new crime drama based on "Jeremy."

2012-10-24 01:09:10 AM
They're developing a sitcom with the working title "Smells Like Teen Spirit" which has nothing at all to do with Nirvana or the song... and the title will probably be changed.

OUTRAGE!

2012-10-24 01:11:19 AM
Well, fair is fair. Kurt Cobain borrowed big bang theory.

"The multicamera comedy revolves around an 18-year-old budding entrepreneur," describes the Hollywood Reporter, "who forgoes Harvard and instead opts to launch a multibillion-dollar Internet company from his garage with the assistance of his sister, best friend and his 1990s indie-rock parents."

Yes, that's exactly what I think when I hear the lyrics "A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido, 'EY, 'EY, ayyyaya ayyyayya ayyyayayya ayyayayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa."

2012-10-24 01:17:53 AM
Since it'll be done by CBS, the series may last for only a couple of shows due to poor ratings (according to them).

2012-10-24 01:21:49 AM
Personally, I'm waiting for the spinoff, Bargle Nawdle Zouss.

And if Kurt Cobain was still alive, this would be enough to make him blow his brains out.

So... basically the same thing as a comedy set in the 70's that debuted in the 90's?

2012-10-24 01:37:52 AM
So CBS is Pawnee, Indiana in network form, eh?

"People here are just finding out about Nirvana. I don't want to tell them what's gonna happen to Kurt Cobain in 1994".

Hmmm, if you tried to make a major network about current hipster trends would that cause an quickened pace of new hipsterism? Eventually you'd hit the hipster singularity every trust-fund hipster would implode in a blackhole.

Not the worst that could happen, right?

The genesis article itself is nowhere to be found. (five minutes in.) Link

I hate BS like this. When I moved to Foster City, I went to the public library in San Francisco, had free access to the microfiche, and printed it for like pennies a page.

It was a front page article of the Sunday edition. Not exactly obscure. Sheesh.

I'm glad they include a laugh track on that show. I wouldn't know when I was supposed to laugh without it.

Smells like desperation.

2012-10-24 04:15:47 AM
what about a tee vee show about someone who spends their life, and each episode, watching inane, ignorant foolishness on a box, on a screen, or on a cellular telephone, complete with the associated vapid interaction associated with such media, in between having the life sucked out of them for eight hours a day (10 with the commute) and perhaps the occasional desperate fapping or unsatisfactory, and therefore humorous, social entanglement? As the season progresses, the antihero or anti-heroine grows ever more pale and zombiefied, a mere dry husk of a human being who only speaks in the gray monotone like the smiths but not as whimpy and then finally snap and going on a murder rampage of death. the next season starts with the main character in the shower like nothing happened but you could add your own supporting lovable cast of miscreants every year knowing that they would all die in the aforementioned murder rampage of death in amusing and satisfying ways.

it would need a laugh track but I bet we could sell lots of soap

That would be the evil wizard, Bargle, and the cleric Aleena. Sadly, this is where she gets taken out by his magic missile in the introductory adventure from the old D&D basic (red box) set...

She's also in the Gazeteer #1 on the Grand Duchy of Karameikos. Though it suggests that if you already established that she's dead by doing the above scenario, that you rename her. She's the niece of Baron Sherlane, ruler of the border town of Threshold. Both are clerics, him level 14 and her level 12, I think..

(I think we've fully abandoned the original topic)

It's bound to happen although unlike those shows, I'm not sure this one will be actually set in the 90s. The article just says that the main character will have "indie rock parents." For all we know, they could just be the Gen-X version of Boomer parents that were out of touch with their kids' generation in 90s sitcoms.
