It was a WTF.

Mugato: Romney can't locate the country he plans to invade on a map and people are arguing about this bullshiat.

That keeps foreign governments on their toes. "Oh, shiat, what if he invades us by mistake?"

Dr. DJ Duckhunt: dethmagnetic: One of Mitt Romney's possible first actions if he were elected president would be to eliminate hospital visitation rights for same-sex couples

...why? How does that help anyone, anywhere?

Because Religion.

Getting sick of the misinformation that is commonly accepted as gospel in these threads.

Romney is a sack. No question. His inability to maintain a single position past the time it takes for him to look at the next poll is frightening.

There's plenty of reasons to vote against him without resorting to misinformation.

The linked article takes a statement regarding Romney's position that visitation rights should be left to the states and jumps to the conclusion that he's going to reverse Obama's Executive Order as one of his first acts in office. The distance between those two situations is so vast the only excuse for this article is to scare proponents of gay marriage into voting against Romney (something they're going to do anyway).

Then we come to the comments and people immediately begin invoking religion as the reason for his position. His position on State's Rights.

That's correct. State's Rights. One of the VERY FEW issues on which Romney has showed any consistency.

I know you're not specifically calling out Romney with your "Religion" comment, but given the context of the comments it could be interpreted that way. The sentiment is certainly representative of the general feelings being expressed here.

We complain all day about the sheep that listen to Fox News and eat up all the lies and distortions like Pablum. But here we are getting out the pitchforks and torches over a completely unfounded accusation.

Romney's been incredibly (uncharacteristically?) firm in a couple of related areas. The first is Gay Marriage. While he's flip-flopped on at least one occasion with his stance on Civil Unions, he has remained stridently against legalization of Gay Marriage. The other area where he has stayed firm is supporting the rights of Homosexuals to the same privileges enjoyed by those in Heterosexual Marriages.

Keep in mind that this article strictly deals with visitation rights. How does religion fit in? In 2008 the Mormon church issued a statement strongly condemning Gay Marriage but endorsing "rights for same-sex couples regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights and probate rights" (emphasis mine). They followed this up the next year by sending an official spokesperson to a Salt Lake City counsel meeting to express explicit support for a bill prohibiting discrimination against Gay men and Lesbians in housing and employment referring to these rights as "common-sense rights that should be available to everyone". The ordinance passed with a unanimous vote.

Is it possible that once elected Romney will feel the need go against his own Church and his own consistent stance on this issue in order to satisfy the far right base? Sure. Is that possibility supported by ANY evidence? Not even close.

I'd be far more inclined to believe that Romney's first actions as President would be to deregulate Wall Street, or disband the EPA.

Anyone giving this article ANY credence ought to invest in a tin foil hat, or maybe just start listening to Fox News.

Mugato: Lt. Cheese Weasel: The Obama media derp machine is in full emergency shiatstorm mode. You can smell the desperation like a burning pile of tires.

Yeah, Obama's only up by about 60 electorate votes. He's scared shiatless.

While I admire the sentiment, there's simply no reliable evidence that Obama has a comfortable lead. There has never been more sophisticated or powerful polling technology or methodologies than we have right now and they still can't agree on even simple numbers. The effect of bias on both sides' results is palpable.

Given that, it's possibly more dangerous to announce he's 60 electoral votes ahead than to say he's behind and desperate.

If enough people get it in their heads that he's got a comfortable lead, they'll get complacent and then he really could lose the election.

"State's rights" is a bullshiat cop out, always has been.

There's really good vodak that does not give hangover, unlike that sweet mother's milk fresh from the tap.

Not anytime in the last 10 or 12 years for sure.

Mikey1969: Huck And Molly Ziegler: C'mon, people, civil disobedience. First of all, I would count on a critical mass of hospital administrators to ensure that "loved ones" meant just that when it comes to visitation.

The problem is when the families block the significant others from visiting, and it is legally enforceable. The laws are meant to prevent that from happening. It has happened many times before.

Oh. I didn't think of that. Yeah, that part sucks.
