(Politico)   Media: Lessee here, Obama clearly won the last two debates by a wide margin, but that hurts our "horse race/close election" storyline, what to do? Got it. Let's admit Obama won 2 out of 3 debates but say Romney won "the debate season"   (politico.com) divider line 20

Well. He did.

Obama has substance.

Romney "Looks presidential"

Guess which one wins votes these days?

I'll give you a hint. Remember when Al Gore clearly had better command of the issues in the debates? Bush was a bumbling mush mouth. Who won the election? Bush, because "He was someone I could hang out with."

Romney is winning because he is white, and "looks presidential"

Obama is just a hood rat.

I say Romney wins the election.

Considering that Romney was dead in the water before the first debate, I'd say he did come out the other side the better off of the two candidates.

You know what really helps their close race narrative? The fact it is a close race.

The fate of the election is now in the hands of the ineptitude of certain campaign surrogates to do something absolutely retarded. Your move, Saul.

I noticed this in the post-debate discussion on TV last night.

"Liberal" pundits: well, Obama may have "won on points," but it remains to be seen whether he can stop the Mittmentum.

Republican shills: who won the debate? Eh, this debate doesn't really matter. As it turns out, only the first one counted. Voters only care about the economy.

Not a one of them could bring themselves to acknowledge that Obama straight up won the debate. The most they would give him is a grudging victory "on points," whatever the hell that means.

This despite the fact that it was clear from polling that Obama clearly won the debate. In fact, in the CBS snap poll, Obama won this debate by a larger margin than Romney won the first one.

And I was watching CNN last night. Liberal media, my ass.

Unfortunately, the news networks rely on ad revenue just like every other channel you don't outright pay for. Sure, they could make the election a non-issue and just admit Romney's fialing horribly and call the election for Obama, but then what? What do they fill their 24 hours news with? There's not enough pretty white girls being abducted lately, and the whole teacher sleeping with students has already reached it's apex and is on the downslide with it occurring more and more. They NEED that ad revenue.

So, they come up with new twists to make it seem more compelling than it is, literally making up the news. Then, there's Wolf Blitzer /facepalm.

Headso: Ring of Fire: How come no one seems to be talking about the fact that Mitt Romney does not appear to know where Iran is on a map.

yeah wtf was that "Syria is Iran's only ally in the Arab world. It's their route to the sea."... Iran has a huge coastline

He confused Iraq and Iran. Which, given that his foreign policy guys worked for Shrub, is kind of understandable.

This.

/Also an Obama voter

But how much of that is the media making this a horse race? They blew up when Romney won the first debate. They turned it into much more than it was, making it sound like a blow out when it really wasn't. Romney didn't win that one with the margin Obama won this one, but the media made it into a major victory. What do they say about this one? CNN's headline: Obama wins debate, but does it matter? Yeah, that's creating a narrative right there. That's assuming the answer in the question. In fact, that's literally "begging the question".

The race is close because it's profitable for it to be close.

I'd point out that it's pretty hard not to look presidential when you actually are the President of the United States.

This is true.

Assuming Romney really did get the bump polls have shown. In a historical contest of debates not mattering, I do wonder.

It was probably more disinterested GOP voters owning up to their candidate rather than Romney convincing a good percentage of independents.
