Why do I get the feeling that this story is gonna get wrecked?

"47 Ronin is directed by Carl Erik Rinsch based on a screenplay by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini. While the film is based on the true story of the forty-seven Ronin, it is a fantastical take, being set "in a world of witches and giants". The studio Universal Pictures first announced the project in December 2008 with actor Keanu Reeves attached to star. Variety reported, "The film will tell a stylized version of the story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in 'The Lord of the Rings' pics, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as 'Gladiator.'" Universal planned to produce the film in 2009 after finding a director. In November 2009, Universal entered talks with Rinsch to direct the film. For Rinsch, who has filmed "visual and stylish" blurbs for brands, the film is his feature film debut."

Chūshingura is a pretty cool story, and there are like billion versions of it.

But Keanu in a fantasy version of it? Its not like the story is well known enough in the US to need an alternate interpretation of it.

Is this movie what they were developing that new fancy camera device for? If so, the fight scenes might be quite awesome.

So there just not going to do the cowboy bebop movie he was supposed to star in... cause that is kind of a good thing.

yeah, that's what I thought too. And it was the same project that was shelved because it was going to cost way too much money to actually do. D'oh!

There is no way 47 ronin ends up as-is in a Western Theater. The concept of mass suicide for a cause is the antithesis of our cultural heritage.

So it's "300" except with samurais and Keanu Reeves. And it's got a guy whose experience consists of filming commercials to direct it. That sounds awful.

This guy started in music videos along with commercials, and his movies don't suck.

Reaves isn't really oriental, is he? No, I don't care what his ethnicity is, he's a damn California nut, as asian as my left testicle.

And I envision, if anything, 47 heroic deaths aka 300 the asianing. Someone mentioned it, but suicide isn't just against western culture as a whole, it's a mortal sin and punished by eternal damnation. It wouldn't fly at all.

Or it'll be 'retold' the same way Stephen Hunt's '47th Samurai' did, where the bad guys die and the good guys surrender themselves for killing the bad guys.

That was my immediate thought when I read the headline. Anything that keeps him away from the role of Spike is a good thing in my book. But regardless of who plays the lead, that movie should never, ever, be made.

I heard they were going to cast Kristen Stewart as Faye.

/ not really, but would it really surprise you?
