rogue49:

Yep, go back to no sex before marriage.

Oh, Joy!

Exactly. The men-against-women thing might be overstated, but several of their points are very valid. As I've been saying since1974, feminism benefits men too.

My uncle had to marry his girlfriend in 1956 because she tricked him. "Get pregnant and he'll HAVE to marry you. And you can stop living with your crazy sister and crazier mother." He worked days and went to night school to support his family instead of finishing college like a normal guy; he didn't get a good night's sleep for 6 years. (20 years later she ditched him for a younger guy who could play guitar and had rich parents.) I believe my cousin was really his kid; I don't believe he should have married that biatch.

Now there's the Pill, and condoms are easy to get, and if worse comes to worse you can always say "Jeez. I'll pay for an abortion." Do YOU want to get stuck marrying the neighborhood slut just because you're the only guy on the block who can read at grade level?

Same with women being able to make decent money working: less reason for her to get knocked up by you. (See above.)

Etc. (Forgive me, O Fark godlings, I am now too drunk to make a point well.)

Mike Chewbacca:

Obvious article is obvious. I often* tell single guys that if they want to keep having sex with women, they should stop villifying those sex-having women by calling them sluts.

Bingo. I love women who have sex, especially women who have sex with me. If they're not virgins when we meet, even if they also have sex with a few other guys, that's fine by me: if it weren't for "sluts" I might still be a virgin at age 49.

Condoms in gas stations is a good thing. The Pill is a good thing. When it's called for abortion is a good thing.

And women who are sexually experienced enough to show me a good time is a VERY good thing.

/Will be passing out soon.

TaterTot_HotDish: GF named my left testicle thundercles: the health care bill forces insurance companies to charge the same rate for men and women desptie the fact that women consume much much more medicine than men do. at my age womens insurance is double that of mens because of this. i dont want to be forced to subsidize the medicine of women. especially when, for example, there is no public outcry that mens car insurance is more expensive. people should pay for the things they want, other people should not be forced to pay it for them.

"but women need that medicine to stay healthy" seems to be the argument. Well as a man i need about double the daily calories to stay healthy. Does that mean that women should be forced to subsidize my grocery bill? feminism is about mitigating the disadvantages of women while ignoring or exacerbating the disadvantages of men. and that is sexism.

You might have a point if you were a gay guy/celibate priest, but if you have sex with ladies, then their birth control is your birth control.

three responses to that criticism:
1) if i am sleeping with a woman that is not a trusted girlfriend i use a condom and do not rely on her telling the truth about the pill or STDs. therefore the price of birth control is on my shoulders as well.
2) the most men do not having sex with women at all while a minority of men are getting all of it. in fact the median woman has about twice as much sex as the median man (hypergamy). this is provable (SOURCE) by both science, modern observation, and common sense.
3) most of womens healthcare costs exceed mens health care not because of birthcontrol costs.

/thank you for the legitimate comments tho. its actually pretty rare in these threads to get anything other than ad hominem. i tip my hat to you.

Cletus C.: This entire argument is based on the premise farts smell bad.

Most people enjoy the smell of their own farts.

Citation not needed.

Sure, but you could have put in a picture of Fat Bastard, at least. Look at you, no ambition at all.

randomjsa: What's funny is that after reading that I have something to remember when liberals go on about how "crazy" WND or Freepers are. You are as crazy as you think people who disagree with you are.

You know how I know you didn't read the thread?

1. Bravo. More guys should use condoms... but they are not as effective as the pill or an IUD in preventing pregnancy. So at the very least the pill can be a good backup method in that scenario

2. that's an interesting article, definitely, and does kind of fit with common sense. I guess my comment is that it is describing humans in an evolutionary context, which might have implications for a modern one but is probably not directly comparable. For instance, since the 'sexual revolution' a few decades ago, human sexual behavior has changed a lot. So culture (and changing cultural mores) has to come into the equation somewhere.

Also, In a situation where you are trying to figure out insurance rates, you are talking about the 'median woman' having more sex than the 'median man'... surely we can narrow it down a bit, though, as we are setting rates for individuals? We already ask people questions about health risk factors such as smoking when calculating insurance rates, why not risk factors such as unprotected sex? It doesn't seem fair to raise rates on women across the board when that individual woman might be far from the median.

On the other hand, having unprotected sex might be as a result of not having access to birth control because of financial issues - an issue that getting insurance is going to solve!

So when you say you don't want to subsidize the medicine of women - well, in an insurance situation, aren't we all kind of subsidizing each other, to some extent? I don't want to pay for the higher health costs of smokers, and indeed smokers pay a higher premium than I do. So maybe instead of treating women as a monolithic group that 'has more sex than men' we can narrow it down to the group of people who indeed are engaging in risky behavior and raise rates just on that group.

3. this might be true, I don't know enough about it. But if the costs are high because of the costs of pregnancy (just guessing here), well, it takes two, doesn't it? Why should only the woman pay a higher health care cost when there's some dude out there who's just as responsible for that pregnancy?

I think for me, the overall point of the article was pointing out that "women's healthcare" in the form of birth control and access to abortion also benefits the straight men who have sex with women. Something that isn't acknowledged enough.

/I also thank you for attempting to have a real discussion on Fark.
