It's dishonest given her positions, but it's smart. She's not going to give up on persuading the 47% of that Romney resents.

Honestly, in a state that runs as heavily blue at Connecticut does, it's probably not a bad idea to remind voters that you don't HAVE to vote straight Democrat just because you want to vote for Obama. I know plenty of people who think that because they're registered Democrat, they aren't allowed to vote Republican and vice-versa.

This, and, other than the image of a republican in some way "promoting" the opposition party.... she isn't trying to discourage people who are already going to vote "straight republican" to do so.... she is trying to convince people who would usually just vote "straight democratic" to do a split ticket and choose her (and maybe other Republicans) along with the Democrats they want to vote for. I'm not sure how this is "bad" for Republicans, other than the again semi-odd step of actually admitting people might want to vote for the other side.

I think this may well backfire on her. She's not well-loved to begin with, and I think it just might piss off enough people within her own party where it will start costing her votes because she's going to work with the Muslim non-citiizen and encouraging people not to vote for Romney.

Not gonna happen, this isn't like the election in 2006 when the Connecticut GOP is going to support Lieberman. There's no other option on the ticket for Republicans to vote for. Either way, between McMahon and Murphy it's really just a battle of which turd is shinier.

They might just stay home.

When I first saw the ad, my first reaction was that she's basically throwing Romney under the bus and endorsing Obama. Everyone I've talked to about it has felt the same way, including a few Republicans. They're not at all pleased about it.

I get that she was trying to appear bipartisan, but that ad really, really made it seem like she wants Obama to be President. She even went out of her way to say to vote for her on the Independent Party ticket instead of the GOP ticket.

That probably won't happen either. I think if the CT GOP can hold Obama's win in CT down to single digits, which is plausible, then they get the moral victory. McMahon is still within spitting distance of winning the election, so the GOP will make sure the base gets out there.

Really? What's wrong with Murphy? I admit I don't know much about him but am voting for him simply because McMahon is so awful.

This is the same approach a lot of Republicans in New England are trying this election cycle... Most notably, Scott Brown. Scott Brown's ads rarely mention he's a Republican. He's describes himself as a "Moderate Independent".

It's all bullshiat, of course... If these Republicans (and that's what they are) want to impress me with their "moderate independence" they'll leave the GOP, run as an Independent and stop taking money from the likes of Karl Rove and other Right Wing donors.

No one with the stench of the GOP on them will be getting a vote from me anytime soon regardless of what bullshiat they spew in their ads and on the stump.

This isn't true, running political ads does not dissuade people from voting for a candidate. It can only encourage people to vote for the candidate. If you're turned off by a political ad, you never would have voted for that candidate in the first place.

I particualarly enjoy the ad where she holds up Green Stamps and says, "Do you remember these? I do. " This woman has no shame. I have worn out the button on my remote control attempting to avoid her never-ending ads on the airwaves. Murphy is a turd but she is just downright pathetic. I only hope that Connecticut kicks her to the curb for good this time.

Look, if a candidate interrupts EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK with minutes of negative political ads, no matter how much you support her cause, you're going to learn to hate her in the end.

Also, shaddup. You don't live in Connecticut. You don't know what you're talking about.

Actually, I personally have decided to vote against somebody because I got too many robocalls from them. Of course, this was in a local race I was undecided on in the first place, and I am a vindictive little shiat sometimes.

Funny, she and her husband have made a living off of the 47% now she needs their vote. CT may still be one of the wealthiest states but I think it is highly concentrated and most people are not going to be voting Rmoney and his tax-cut plan.

She knows a lot of traditional Republican voters are going to stay home this year because they aren't going to vote for Obama and don't want to vote for Romney. With those people being gone from the equation she is going to have to replace those votes by convincing Democrats to vote for her.

Same thing here in the People's Republic of MA. I'll mostly vote D, but I have no problem voting for our version of an "R", like Romney or Cellucci, if it means having a check on a totally D State House. Or if an idiot like Coakley thinks she has a Senate spot just because there's a D next to her name, I have no problem giving my old State Senator (Brown) my vote. Against a real D like Warren though......

I attended the second Murphy-McMahon debate in person, and straght from the horses mouth came the following exchange:

Murphy: "You earn around $40 million per year. Why did it take you 35 years to pay back your creditors in a $1 Million bankruptcy?"

McMahon: "Because I would rather spend my money making sure people like you don't go back to Washington."

Game. Set. Match. And I'm a Libertarian, so aside from trying to outright buy this election, I dislike both candidates equally.
