So she had to *gasp* honor a legal contract between consenting adults that's been upheld in good faith?

Poor woman!

She was in "Your Highness". She doesn't get to take the high road anymore.

Tho, I am glad to see she is willing to debase herself for money.

They've had three Bruce Banners (okay two, if you're just counting the Avenger-verse), two LTC James Rhodes, and they're probably going to get a bigger star to play Thanos in "Avengers 2." I doubt a different Jane Foster would even be an issue.

Just put in a scene where Kat Dennings finally removes 9 of the 10 sweaters she was wearing in Thor. Then have Thor look right in the camera.

They should've let her go. I adore Ms. Portman, but her character was farking useless in Thor. I was ecstatic to see her photo in The Avengers for the sole purpose of promising that she wouldn't appear for real.

Yeah, pretty much the least convincing scientist in cinema history apart from Denise Richards as "Christmas Jones". How much of it is the character and how much the actor is an exercise for the viewer, but I suspect anyone remembering her impression of an oaken plank in Star Wars and a plywood spacer in V For Vendetta is going to favor the latter no matter how sad the writing was.

//She's attractive enough, sure, but it's not like Hollywood isn't full of attractive women with more actual acting talent. I imagine at least one of them is pouring coffee at the cafe where this crime against cinema is going to be written.

This a million times.

What kind of idiot casts Kat Dennings in his movie and then covers her up with heaps of bulky clothing. You know it's not because Kat Dennings is afraid to show her bewbs (bless her heart, which I hear is located someplace under that massive rack).

My guess is that this derp-head:

I don't think you get credit for successfully pulling off a role that literally consists of only "look like a pre-teen" when you actually are a pre-teen.

I'll give you Black Swan, I guess, because even though I wasn't impressed most of the critics were, so I assume that one was a matter of taste, or rather lack of distaste for blatant pandering oscar-bait schlock.

Which is funny considering she is one of the few actors with a Erdős-Bacon number, worked as Alan Dershowitz's research assistant and has two journal publications.

That is the source of some of my frustration, yes. One would expect the combination of professional (assumably method) actor and experience in the physical sciences to result in a well-acted portrayal of a competent scientist, instead of a terrible impression of an actor of the quality one would expect from an incompetent scientist.

//Though technically everyone that's published anything has an Erdos number, that's actually pretty much the joke there. It's not a scientific credential, it's a network theory reference.

"Thor" was my least favorite of the "Avengers" movies, but damn if it doesn't get better in a second viewing. Acting, especially by Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins, was both narmy and very subtle at times. Loki is easily one of the more complex vilains in comic book movies.

I'm only 63% sure of what you just said so I'm answering based on my own interpretation, but no. It cuts away from her, then cuts back to her body double, face turned away from the camera, jumping into the lake. The shots in question are pure Portman.

If you want to see Natalie Portman's ass in all its glory (and there can be no doubt that it is her ass), go and look for the short film "Hotel Chevalier", the prelude to "The Darjeeling Limited". She's got a real hot sex scene with Jason Schwartzamn in it, but thankfully, she's the only one showing skin.

And enjoy it, too. She said that the reviews of the shorts focused so much on the nude scene, overshadowing all the rest, that she decided she won't do them anymore.

RockofAges: I'm not one to complain but there wasn't much goin on in that scene (will admit I just looked it up).

Have you seen Spartacus on Starz? If you're a man, that's required viewing.

To be frank, I've never watched a movie, or a series, because there is nude scenes in it. If I want sexual content, I schtup by girlfiend, or watch porn. Maybe I'm jaded because, as a 9-yo French boy, I could see daily girls stripping to their thongs on national TV, but I don't need to be treated as a hormoney teenager every hour of the day. For instance, I think that there is too much sex in Game of Thrones.

Honestly it would be hard to beat the first season of that show. It's easily the most macho thing I've ever seen on TV, which I like personally.

I loved the first season but couldn't watch season 2. It was just too sad that they switched out Spartacus because the lead actor died of cancer.

Black Swan was totally one of those movies where it was good while you were watching it but as soon as it is over and you have time to think it makes no sense (she managed to do a whole performance like that?) . It was just like the other movie from the same director Requiem for a Dream (New York City ran out of heroin?).

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

Me ? Asexual ?

That's a good one, skippy.

RockofAges: While nudity isn't the sole purpose of most given pieces of entertainment, it's fairly puritanical in my view to consider healthy sexuality and arousal of the sexual sense in the television medium to be "for hormoney teenagers".

Why segregate your sexuality into liminal / threshold events, like a self-contained urge? I allow myself to enjoy the thoughts of all my pleasures (food, writing, music, gaming, the outdoors, and yes, sex) throughout the day. When it's presented well (and not necessarily "tastefully", but more like "effectively") it's enjoyable.

My point was that, in "Games Of Thrones", I feel pandered to. GoT has a lot of scene scenes that are significant and relevant to the plot. I think about the incest scenes, for instance, or how the way Daenerys tamed her Dothraki husband is shown by her managing to transform their intercourses from quasi-rape to more consensual affairs (reminded me a lot of "Quest for fire", actually). But afterward, there are a lot of completely unnecessary sex scenes, like when the bordello owner (don't remember the name) does a long treaty about the politics of Westeroos while two girls are having a lesbian sex scene.

MY GOD, THERE IS A GIANT BEHIND NATALIE!

RUN NATALIE! RUUUUUN!!!

Natalie Portman, despite being quite intelligent, strikes me as feeling oh-so-above-it-all. I frankly don't consider her to be a very good actress, with the exception of those roles where she plays a precocious child (where the bar is much lower). It's almost as those she got lots of praise for her acting skills when she was twelve, and then just kinda figured "I'm good, I don't need to get any better" and has been stuck at that level every since.

I also hold her partially responsible for some of the flaws of the Star Wars prequels. I recall and interview where she said something to the effect of "It's so HARD to act in front of a green screen," and I thought to myself, "Lady, you literally get paid to play make-believe. Use your gorram imagination. You don't see Ewan MacGregor complaining."

Thor was one of the worst movies I've seen in years. There were no interesting characters and no character development whatsoever, except for when "sympathetic Thor" abruptly replaced "arrogant Thor" between scenes because he was chastised for dropping a cup of coffee. I don't think any casting could have made that movie interesting.

eh, I can see where it would be hard to act when there's not really anything to respond to; to say nothing of awful dialogue as well. No actor really came out of those prequels looking good.

I do otherwise agree with your assessment of her; though I think she's a fairly decent actress that tends to be hit or miss in her movie choices. You can definitely tell when she's chosen a role solely for the paycheck.
