Don't be silly. You know how hard it is for the fetus to keep a cigarette lit in there?

Yeah, but if you give them enough meth, they'll find a way.

Is the fetus OK with withdrawal symptoms from the Mother Ship giving up smoking, drinking, eating, drugs, sleeping, working, and breathing?

Science makes fetuses into bigger wet blankets than religion.

But what if the BABY is making you crave In&Out?

Mothers-to-be should consume nothing but fresh, organically grown grass and filtered rain water

/just to be safe

Hmm, well my Pregnant SO has just been having cravings for Pringles, and bought 3 packets of them. I could tell her... but trying to take her craved food away from her might be dangerous at this point. Hmm....

Tomorrow then. Perhaps Friday.

no food at all is much worse. be thankful for what's on your plate, doctor snagglepuss.

Professor John Wright said the impact of acrylamide was similar to "the adverse effect of smoking on birth weight".

At least the smoking babies are born looking cool.

So, in other words, not really that bad at all.

Alrighty then.

if your main intake is CHIPS then, YEAH. it's certainly not healthy for the baby.

/ffs this is a real research project?

I was a little skeptical about this until I remembered, it's on the internet so it has to be true.

No, but fearmongering sells papers. Why do people hate fried potatos?

Well I guess those cravings for Krispy Kremes damaged my daughter. FYI don't take a pregnant woman's cravings away from her! Everything in moderation though.

2012-10-23 07:29:48 AM
My sister is due next month and it seems like standard protocol for ob/guns to tell pregnant women to avoid fast food, especially if there is a family history of gestational diabetes.

Well, yeah. If you eat chips/fries as often as a smoker smokes, your baby is probably not going to be super healthy. And you will have a butt the size of Jupiter.

If however you eat a mostly healthy diet, but every now and then have an order of fries, your baby will be fine.

If the little bugger didn't want fries, he should stop making Mamma crave fries!

Pregnant fry-craving ladies: Cut fresh taters or sweet pataters into steak fries. Toss in olive oil. Salt lightly. Bake on cookie sheet. Eat while still hot. This satisfies that craving and is much healthier than Mc Fries.

Well done. Here are the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: "A horrible person." We weren't even testing for that. Don't let that horrible-person thing discourage you. It's just a data point. If it makes you feel any better, science has now validated your birth mother's decision to abandon you on a doorstep.

As someone who has been pregnant before, when you´re craving something you want exactly that thing. Most certainly not a "healthy" substitute for that thing...

Oh I get that. Chicken fajita Nachos from Chilies with extra guac for me. Unfortunately the closest Chilies was about 30 minutes from my house, and never open at 2 am, the bastards.

Like I said, the fries every now and then, fine. Daily fries, and you probably need to look at the healthy altermative.

Makes the baby smaller? Count me in.

/sister in law had contractions for two days and 20 hours of advanced/hard labor before they finally did an emergency C section.
That baby was only 7 pounds 4 ounces. Considering that my mother bore two 9 pounders, i say pass the chips.

2012-10-23 08:19:41 AM
So eating junk food every day is bad for you...
And if you're pregnant eating something bad for you every day is bad for the baby...
Captain Obvious, please report to the Romerocopter immediately!

3.2 KGs is a pretty healthy birth weight. You really don't want a baby to be smaller. You start running into all kinds of pulmonary, GI, and growth and development problems later in life.

If the recent corelation between high fructose corn syrup and autism has any merit then they might have a point.

My babies made me healthier! With #1, my major craving was oranges and orange juice, with #2, tomatoes.

I'm fat, and when not pregnant, I eat too many fries. And too much soda. I'm workin on it. Maybe I should just stay pregnant, except then I'm still fat. Hm.

My cousin had a pregnant babysitter that would eat nothing but candy and soda.

My cousin purposefully left her fruits, veggies, and some leftovers for her to eat when she was watching her kid and tried to encourage her to eat a balanced diet. No luck.

Kid was born and the hospital thought it was a crack baby because it went through withdraw. Baby was addicted to sugar.

this is probably true
