Does this mean last season fnally ended?

He went for 19 and 12. So yeah, he did shine.

Pre-season means exactly dick.

Otherwise the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors will be fighting it out for the Western Conference title and the Miami Heat will be a 5th seed in the East.

Yup.  The lesser teams give it their all to see what they can get.  The better teams are most likely not playing their stars as much to see what they can get from the deep parts of their bench.

ESPN desperately needs a real competitor.

I was gonna say this, but Howard DID play 33 minutes.

Well, yeah... but all in all, in every sport, the pre-season is about trying out players/schemes as an experiment.  Hence, I have no idea why people pay so much attention to them.

Yeah but T-Rob dunked on him, so that means KU is retroactively named 2012 NCAA Champions, and Rex Walters is inducted into the basketball hall of fame.

Hey, it's 2012 - if you're still going to ESPN for insightful, unbiased, regionally-balanced sports news coverage, the joke's on you.

2012-10-22 05:17:30 PM
The most important part is whether Kobe made sure to let Nash and Howard know that he's the man and he'll be taking all the 4th quarter shots or not.

2012-10-22 05:18:10 PM
What the headline should be:

Dwight Howard meets expectations in first preseason game.

/Can't wait for the season to start

I'm sure that has happened.

You better duck and cover.  Someone must be teeing off.

He hurt his foot in the 3rd quarter. so... maybe?

Has anyone mentioned that pre-season matters naught?

2012-10-22 05:50:38 PM
This will really hurt them in the first BCS standings.

Well, to be fair, preseason stats are VERY predictive of a player like Jeremy Lin's entire career trajectory. Unless, of course he's doing very well in preseason, in which case preseason doesn't mean anything.

He didn't get dunked on. He just ran out of room to play defense.

Pre-season IS important...for the bench players, testing rotations, and conditioning. I don't think it matters much if the Lakers haven't won a game yet, that's not the point of the pre-season.

I know I've been at work too long when I read that as air conditioning... and it made sense...

I wonder where all of the "EAST COAST BIAS!" people disappear to when it's Lakers time over at ESPN.

LA is the only city they care about from the west coast.

As a Jazz fan, they beat them twice this preseason. That (and the Evans block/dunk/tip sequence) are probably the highlight of my season as a fan. Let the lame teams get victories where they can so we have something to look back on once things get going back to normal.

Still can't get over Ray Allen leaving and being sent to obscurty?

falcon176: how did they fit this in their 24/7 coverage of "why the fark isn't Tim Tebow starting this is the worst thing ever"

They had to squeeze in something between the Tebow slurping and the shock and outrage that the Patriots haven't simply been awarded the Lombardi trophy already, since they are obviously the best team in the NFL.

2012-10-22 06:58:54 PM
The other day, Sportscenter had highlights of the Lakers' 34-point loss to the Utah Jazz. Yeah, Kobe went off and scored 23 in a quarter (31 for the game), but they didn't show anything but Kobe. They literally said nothing about the Jazz until relaying the final score at the end. The Jazz had seven players in double digits and, I think, will be about as good as the Lakers this year. Nothing they did was worth mentioning?

Fark the Lakers.

/Fark the Jazz, too.
//The Trailbazers are going to suck this year, so fark me.

Celtics did just fine in the off season. I'm not sure what NBA you are paying attention to.

Did Dwight Howard marry some dude named Shines? In that case, shouldn't the name be hyphenated?
