This story must be false, the TSA protects us from this sort of thing! It will be a plot that involves TSA agents that will be the next attack. Too bad everyone is too wrapped up in security theatre to realize it.

How many AA passengers are in prison because their luggage tested positive for drugs later on?

An awfully long sentence from drug smuggling.

As someone who travels around asia I lock my luggage not because I'm worried about someone taking things out but because I'm worried about someone slipping something in it. Flying internationally? use zipties

fnordfocus: How many AA passengers are in prison because their luggage tested positive for drugs later on?

I read that as their drugs testing positive for luggage.

Don't touch my bags if you please Mr. Customs man.

kmt11: An awfully long sentence from drug smuggling.

FTFA: Bourne's crew actually dismantled and reattached parts of a plane's wing before and after carrying a full flight of passengers nearly 2,100 miles.

I have no problem with the sentence.

Victor Bourne led an operation

Who is this, Jason Bourne's dumber brother?

His real name is David Webb and he was born April 15, 1971 in Nixa, Missouri.

It's a losing proposition, but one you can't refuse. It's the politics of contraband.

If the guy was taking care of the mob with some profits, we wouldn't be reading this story.

The drug war claims another victim. Three life sentences? Really?

These drug laws are absolutely ridiculous.

Umm I kind of get that, but he's not been charged with endangering passengers, has he?

FTA: "Judge Nicholas Garaufis...mentioned the danger of such activity and said he hoped Bourne's stiff sentence would discourage it from happening again."

That's good. Prison sentences ALWAYS stop crime.

Unlike legalization would. Because that never works. Yeah, sure.

This was a huge problem a few years ago (probably still is, actually) with people flying out of Sydney airport and into countries like Bali. LOTS of people reported getting to their hotels and finding drugs in their bags, presumably because whoever was supposed to remove them at the destination airport dropped the ball. There were a few news stories of Australians talking about how they got to their hotel in Bali, found the drugs, and had to call the Australian embassy for legal advice and they were told to dispose of the drugs immediately and not tell anyone, as that kind of thing carries a life sentence in Bali. Of course, at the time I wondered if it was all just made up, a freaky excuse for Aussies getting caught with drugs abroad, but it seems like it does legitimately happen to people...

How else are we suppose to get the drugs?

A bit more information from this source Link

It also sucks if you draw a judge that used to be the chief counsel for the FAA: Link

I read about this a few months ago. Maybe here on Fark? A twentysomething girl got life I think.

Three life sentences don't worry me. Now if he had received four life sentences, I'd be looking for new clients or a bigger piece of the action.

If I plant explosives instead of drugs is it just one life sentence? I need to get in touch with some folks in Pakistan.

The passenger luggage thing, we've seen before. The more shocking aspect is the use of the wing.

A former American Airlines baggage handler has been sentenced to three life sentences plus an extra 35 years for running a drug smuggling ring out of New York's JFK International Airport and Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.

Well, no wonder prisons cost so much. I, for one, don't want to pay for a guy to be in a prison for over 335 years.
