Remember that one time on the old TV show when the Dinobots tried to combined, but failed?

Yeah, good times...

Not only a Disney one, but apparently there's some Voltron made from vehicles?

I prefer the Shaolin version.

there were three Voltrons...the lions, the vehicles and a third that was sold as a toy, but was never put on American TV. It was three giant robots that combined. I remember having all three toys as a kid, and wondering where the hell the TV was coming out to explain the third one.

No, no there is not and you will never convince me otherwise.

I like it. I saw this and my first thought was this is the exact opposite of "raping my chiildhood", whatever that is.

I thought it looked pretty cool myself. I would not mind getting it just for Donald and Goofy.

LOL, Steamboat Willie on top.

"And I'll form... the head! ♫ whistle whistle whistle ♫"

I wonder what Disney Voltron's equivalent of the Blazing Sword is? "FORM... COPYRIGHT INJUNCTION!!!"

*Rolled up injunction forms between hands, unfurls with a blast of energy*

*Disney Voltron hurls injunction at Ro-beast, which rolls up around it and binds it. Swarms of lawyers spew forth from Disney Voltron's orifices and engulf the helpless Ro-beast, devouring it within seconds.*

Years ago I watched the first few episodes of Voltron when they aired it on Adult Swim. It didn't hold up.

Seriously, you can't biatch about Disney (or anyone else) violating your childhood memories of something when that something will do so completely on it's own.

Oh, wait. I'm an adult and don't particularly care what people do with intellectual properties that happened to exist twenty-five years ago. Whew.

Watch the making-of documentary on the Voltron DVDs. The writers admit to having made-up whole new stories when translating the cartoon because no one spoke Japanese.

I had the gladiator Voltrons too. Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.

My childhood memories (late '60s early '70s) were craptastical creations by Hanna Babara and Sid and Marty Krofft. Please violate my childhood.

/Okay Johnny Quest and the first two episodes of Scooby Doo was good.
//Yes I'm aware of Johnny Test.

The late 90s version of Johnny Quest wasn't half bad, but that's played straight. For the violation, see the Venture Brothers.

For the Hanna Barbera cartoons, check out "Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law" if you haven't seen it already. It's a bit frenetic but it's pretty funny.

/Sealab 2021 is pretty ingenious too

I started watching Voltron Force the other day and I highly recommend it to anyone who was a fan (It's available on Netflix.). I think they do a really good job of paying homage to the original cartoons... at least the good parts that i remember now as an adult. There's even a scene where one of the newer characters talks about how stupid it would be for an enemy NOT to attack during the formation sequence.

Any harm was already done when they made Power Rangers.

The phrase "such-and-such-a-thing" has raped/violated my childhood!" has been raped to death already.

Yeah, it did a really good job of building on its predecessor - updating while not abandoning. They even went back and brought back out one of the original team members from the original show that had been replaced back in the day.

Most of the new stuff were logical extrapolations of where things were before. I especially liked the idea of the different versions of Voltron depending on which lion was in the center and adding new skills to him based on the pilots and so forth. I can't say I liked the idea of the kids basically completely taking over. Seemed really unnecessary cuz it's not like the original set are retirement age or anything.

But in short, definitely working out. Most Voltron fans will like it if they go into it with an open mind I think.

On a bittersweet note, it's neither as drastic nor as awesome a redux as the new Thundercats though. nu-Thundercats blows nu-Voltron out of the water.

And somehow it still hasn't been renewed for a second season. It's still technically on "hiatus" with no future plans. It's bad enough I have to wait until next year to see more Legend of Korra, but now I find out Thundercats likely isn't even coming back.

Sophisticated by the standards of the time when Voltron's popularity peaked 25 years ago, but not by today's.

The individual figures each look like they have about as many points of articulation as Ram Man from Masters of the Universe and Deep Six from G.I. Joe. Figures these are expected to be a lot more posable than just "standing with arms at sides".

Even without looking at the link I can tell it's a custom job (mostly looks like Snarl, Swoop, and Sludge are humping their arms/leg respectively instead of actually being a part of them), but that picture gives me the biggest Transformers nerd boner...

First of all, if you're going to overthink it that much, consider that Transformation Is A Free Action. A TV Tropes entry, with all that entails.

Second, there's the swirly force field involved during Gao Gai Gar Final Fusion. It keeps the Monster Of The Week from interrupting. Usually.  The couple times it happened, the bad guy got smacked around for his troubles.
