Just a little more background since the person who created the campaign was really slim on details.

Yes, Ryan is a real live person and his active, well-loved person in the small community he's from. He's 28 years old, and a a few days ago was hospitalized. At first it wasn't clear if it was a stroke or an aneurism, as there was considerable bleeding on the brain. Now the official cause of the bleeding has been termed a "hemorrhagic stroke." His condition, as of yesterday was upgraded from critical to acute. He is speaking, and conscious, though still stumbles and slurs on his words, yet according to family members that have been visiting him has been joking around and is his 'old self.'

Ryan looks like he's on his way to recovery, but like so many people his age, he has no health insurance. While the campaign isn't asking for anything even close to what his hospital stay is going to actually cost him, anything at this point can help. I sincerely appreciate your consideration!

Thanks! I'm not either. But...well, I'm hoping that he gets all the help he needs.

I'm sorry, but is this a follow-up to the Crisco-eating thread?

Atypical Person Reading Fark: I'm sorry, but is this a follow-up to the Crisco-eating thread?

Sorry, what? No. This is about my friend, Ryan, who had a stroke. Yes, really.

I have a bad feeling about the future direction of the FarkUs category...

I didn't get very much response on this thread and only one person offering a comment of support. However, since posting we've raised nearly $2000. I'd really like to think some Farkers are responsible for this and just remaining anonymous. If you did, thank you. To the detractors and those using it as a platform to complain about FarkUs, this isn't someone's pet project, band or book I'm trying to plug, though I'm sure that those are important to each of the submitters out there.

once you tell the hospital you don't have insurance they really help you get medicaid
a news article may help...no one here likes to just give out money

Not every personal tragedy makes it to the news. Sorry. His full name is Ryan Bright.

But, that said...you're right. No one really knows who I am talking about, or if this isn't a scam. I can appreciate their wariness. I figured it was worth a shot, at least, and hope for the best. Thanks to everyone who supported.

To be fair, he didn't ask for money either. This is something his friends are doing on his behalf. I'm sorry about your stroke, though.
