Man, time to stock up on laser pointers. The damn things are going to be banned, and my cats love them.

That, or bring a bigger laser.

On a related note, I've been thinking about buying one of these for home defense:

If someone busts into my home, I'm going to fire this baby off and permanently blind them. Or if I'm behind them where they can't see, perhaps I could just set them on fire.

Someone a half mile away was screwing around with one of those green laser pointers once and hit the rear view mirror on my car. Those damn things will indeed blind you for a bit.

Was it the pilot's first greenlight?

I always thought if I was going to commit a crime then do a get-a-way in a car and be chased, evading the cars is easy enough, but what to do about that helicopter? I thought about using stinger missiles or something but would like to avoid murdering anyone. So, laser pointers it is! If he crashes, it's his own fault for not using instruments lol

Yeah, well, lasers are a young science...

I've been looking for a good beam stretcher.

I would think that an automated turret of green laser pointers would be a great way to avoid capture from pursuing aircraft. Did the burglar guy get away?

The comments, oh man. It's true - they're ALWAYS worse than anything you see here.

"JackinFtLaud at 7:50 AM October 22, 2012

So we have people in Broward actually cheering on criminals and hoping a BSO helicopter loses control and crashes on houses? Safe to say who these folks support in the election.....

I guess that is a progressive version of hope and change,"

Some video from 2007 of what this looks like from the aircraft, along with them tracking down the yokel and his space-age toy.

Still this is better than having some Florida wack job pointing a Fleshlight at you.

And then there's this, where several people across a beach apparently get the same clever idea at once. It seems mankind is simply not ready to responsibly harness the power of keychain lasers.

That video seems to demonstrate very well the distraction lasers can do. Where from the article I scoffed at the reaction from the pilot, I can now see the danger involved. It should be mandatory viewing for every laser purchaser to view that video. A required amount of nighttime flight hours over laser country might also be necessary.

And matches should have pictures of burn victims on them.

If people stop abusing these things, they won't be banned.

Seriously, how is temporarily blinding a pilot going to change the problem of being in a flyover zone?

Move, or buy a politician, or go protest at the airport gates. If you scare off travelers (moreso than the TSA's proctological fixation will) then the airport closes and you have a quiet home.
