If those are the real numbers, and 78 million people cast 83% of the vote in a state with a population of 6 and a half million, then we've got bigger issues than the news agency.

These are the numbers from 2112. AZ population is now 120 million and the race was between Malia Obama IV and Mitt Romney's brain in a jar.

FTFA: "For 17 seconds, Phoenix, Arizona CBS News affiliate KPHO ran a lower third graphic that showed that Obama had won the Nov. 6 election over Gov. Mitt Romney with 99% of the precincts reporting. The lower third graphic appeared around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, during an episode of "The People's Court."

You are 100% correct. Just the idea that someone invested the time to key in the data for the graphic to appear on the screen is troubling. Was the person just trying out the option? Were they building the actual view that they planned on showing the night of November 6th? This is really, really disturbing.

Had it been the other way around - the graphic showing that Romney was ahead of Obama would still make me feel dishonored. Is this what our country has come to? The only way to win or achieve is through manipulation? Sad, very sad.

Yes, the fact that someone took 60 seconds to type in some random numbers in a spreadsheet is deeply, deeply troubling. SOMEBODY HOLD AN INVESTIGATION.

Ya know..I'm not a huge Obama supporter. In fact, I've been quite disappointed with much of what has, and hasn't, transpired throughout his first term.

However, the fact that the right wing Republicans have been such whiny, pissy little babies ever since they lost in 2008, I feel like I have to vote for Obama simply to keep them from winning! Enabling this type of behavior is like rewarding children who act up in public by giving them something to make them quiet down..rather than giving them the whap on the butt they so desperately deserve and taking them out to the car.

The right has lost their collective marbles. They have created their own version of "the world around them" where they see things that do not exist and that sane, rational people do not see. The rage and anger they exhibit is certifiable insanity. They are truly deranged. No president has ever has ever been the target of this level of vitriol, been the subject of so much manufactured controversy, jaw dropping conspiracies and sheer bullshiat or this amount of unfettered rage.

In a way, I hope Romney wins..because when he doesn't magically turn everything into sunshine, lollipops and rainbows and actually makes things worse than they already are, the GOP won't win another Presidential election for the next couple of decades.

I'm pretty sure people said that in 2004 and 2008

I doubt it.

2012-10-22 10:13:25 AM
This is proof that the election is rigged.

Romney's son owning voting machines... that's the free market. Voter registrations dumped in a dumpster... That's just like ACORN. Ohio GOP admits they don't want to make it easy for black people to vote... Rules are rules. PA GOP brags that the voter ID laws will promise a Romney win... Well, you need ID to buy cigarettes, right?

A 12 second scoll during the People's Court... Proof of fraud.

2012-10-22 10:14:17 AM
I've never heard of this happening on a TV channel, but weren't there a few newspapers in 2008 (I think the Chicago Sun-Times was one) who got "caught" feeding dummy data into their election website a few days before the election to test the system, and conspiracy nutters were trying to claim they were giving Obama a boost in his numbers before a vote was cast?

Which President Obama has already proven to be a winning strategy, considering he's spent his 4 years blaming his predecessor and still has the support of his party. If Romney wins and things don't turn around he'll be saying some of the exact same things that Obama is saying now, "We didn't realize how deep the hole was," and so on. Republicans will buy that just as much as the democrats are buying it from Obama. The only difference will be that the vast majority of people who believe it when Obama says it won't believe it if/when Romney, hypothetically, says it, and the vast majority of people who don't believe it now when Obama is saying it will believe it if/when Romney, hypothetically, says it.

The same way Bush blamed Clinton, Reagan blamed Carter? The way presidents have been (more-or-less accurately, FWIW) doing it since the dawn of the country?

I was a Chyron operator for a news station for three years. Election time was always the worst. The only way to get through the night without strangling the on-air "talent" was to build all the graphics way in advance. This also entails putting in dummy info that gets replaced when the real numbers come in and making extra blank templates for when the anchor decides to start comparing apples to oranges at the last minute. Sounds to me like somebody was checking their template positions and got spotted. Total non-story.

I know. Cool story.

Don't worry, the GOP only has one or two more presidential elections anyways. The boomers are starting to die off. Something like 47% of young people (I forget the age.. under 18 maybe?) are non-whites. While I don't necessarily think that the Republican agenda is anti-minority, they have historically done poorly in those demographics. In order for the Republican party to remain relevant they're going to have to drop an awful lot of the social conservatism stuff. We'll see how the fiscal conservatism works out also, imho like it or not single payer health care is a 'when' not an 'if'. There might still be a (relevant) Republican party, but it won't resemble the party of today.

Might be doable with multiple third party candidates, between the Green, Libertarian, and Constitution parties, plus "Ron Paul!!!" write-ins (counting all the varying numbers of exclamation points). I'd think it more likely in Colorado; however, I won't bet a hat against it happening in AZ.
