I read a story that was based on The Thing's point of view. I was sad when the story said in that final movie scene with MacReady and Childs, that Childs had been infected and MacReady was the only one who hadn't turned.

I guess it's better than finding that the first sample was entirely contaminated with diesel fuel and modern surface microbes.
