"Excessive playing of Alanis Morissette incites battery
Jacksonville police arrived at a home in the 1400 block of Palm Avenue Sunday night to find a man with a large cut on his face and an unusual explanation.

The victim told police his boyfriend, 24-year-old Allen Blair Casey, hit him in the face with a plate because he was listening to Alanis Morissette, according to the report.

Casey had fled the scene, but was located at a park a short distance away.

You are right. Another story from the website:

'French Fry Head' arrested on burglary charges
Christopher Andrew Rawls, AKA "French Fry Head," was arrested Tuesday afternoon on burglary charges.

Police say Rawls wedged his way into three different homes in the Oak Hill area and pawned the stolen items on the same days they were stolen, according to a report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At least some of the stolen property was recovered from nearby pawn shops by police.

It is unknown if the Hamburglar was connected to these crimes in any way.

FTFA: "The victim told me she was seated in the living room when she saw a sillhouette outside the back window,"
...
"He has been charged with trespassing with intent to commit an offense,"

I wondered what "intent to commit" he was charged with since Voyeurism is the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviors, such as undressing, sexual activity, or other actions usually considered to be of a private nature.

In Florida such things are defined broadly:

The 2012 Florida Statutes

b>810.14Voyeurism prohibited; penalties.-
(1)A person commits the offense of voyeurism when he or she, with lewd, lascivious, or indecent intent, secretly observes another person when the other person is located in a dwelling, structure, or conveyance and such location provides a reasonable expectation of privacy.

So in Florida it seems that you don't have to peep on "intimate" behavior as long as someone can read your mind to determine that just watching gets you hot.

So why wasn't he charged with voyeurism rather than intent to commit a crime (presumably voyeurism)?

If the guy had been beaten down for smoking weed, or shoplifting a bag of chips, I doubt we'd be so giddy about his injuries. But it involves him expressing some sort of sexual desire? We're happy to see him bloodied.

I see what you are getting at but the distinction between a victim-less crime like smoking weed or the minimal impact on society that boosting a bag chips may have pales in comparison to invasion of an underage child's privacy and violation of respect for a person of any age provides me with a clear conscience when I condone violence for one act and not for the others. Of course others may be very justified in drawing that line elsewhere.
