Cool. Hope he gets to write his skits, snl has a habit of making funny people less funny.

SNL or CK?

CK's ok. I don't think he's the funniest thing alive, but he doesn't make me want to ragestab.

Gaffigan on the other hand..

That's the problem when the internet chooses something and idolizes it above everything else. People hear about it and instead of thinking "Oh yeah I know that guy, he's pretty funny", they think "Ok he's most certainly not the funniest person in history, and this idolization pisses me off".

Louis CK is a pretty funny guy. Always gets a laugh out of me. And like above, I really hope they use him well.

/still haven't watched the DVR of last night, although I did see the opening sketch, it was pretty good

Louis C.K. is fantastic and his stand up routines make me cry with laughter.
Louis the TV show is fantastic but it makes me cry. Period.

Speaking of, I saw him in Detroit last week, and laughed so hard I thought I started my period.

Way to go Louis, only seven years after Dane Cook.

I have the weirdest....

Ok, in all seriousness I'm jealous.  He's bypassing TicketMaster (good on him), but that means he can only play limited places.  Unfortunately that does not include my city ;(

The only venue in Detroit that would take a non-TM event was the Masonic Temple theater. Which is an extremely lovely old dame of a building that is not in a good part of Detroit. And does not have working drinking fountains. Really gorgeous, though.Link

And the musical guest is fun. (that's fun with a period). I hope he stabs them to death (figuratively speaking.. ah heck, literally too.)

This seems like something Louis CK would absolutely hate to do.

Yeah, I know about that place.  Never been, but I have a ton of friends that moved down here from Detroit.   Sounds like you had a blast.

We *do* have non-TM controlled places down here... but Louis didn't seem to think any of them worked for him I guess.  Oh well.

I don't think he's a good fit for SNL, but I don't think he's overrated. Some of his stand up is pretty funny, and his FX show is really very good.

Part of why people like him so much is because he's generally cool to his audience (doing an AMA, offering his work for a low price with no copy-protection, etc.)

2012-10-21 01:11:27 PM
I hope he leans more towards his stand up. His TV show sucks.

Lsherm: I hope he leans more towards his stand up. His TV show sucks.

Which sucks for you, because hosting SNL is free advertising for his TV show.

2012-10-21 01:59:21 PM
Can't see this working out as well as fans would hope. Still, hope it does help out Louis CK and keep his show on the air, and give him more clout vs Ticketmaster.

/Lukewarm about Louis CK. Not a fan, not a hater.

2012-10-21 02:31:45 PM
I like a lot of his standup, but his show just makes me cringe. There's no excuse to be that socially awkward beyond the age of 30.

2012-10-21 02:52:42 PM
The funniest thing about Louis C.K. lately, is how he and the media act like Louis C.K. invented selling tickets and recordings off of a website.

Also, how he ducked out of hosting the WH Correspondents dinner this year after he got some heat for some of his tweets from Fox News. Hilarious. That was brave.

dammit, Loius, no. SNL? Come on. You are better than that.

If he shows up in Hangover 4 or the Ghostbusters reboot, its over.

Yeah, and those louts on Seinfeld had no respect for others! George actually KILLED people because of his stupid errors and nothing was ever done!!

And don't get me started on Cheers. Didn't those people ever do anything but hang out in a bar???

I don't like his tv shows but his standup is awesome. He is at least original which is more than you can say for 95% of the comics out there.

/his "I'm so glad I'm white" bit is farking hilarious

I don't get the idea that he thinks (or says) he invented any of it. He just found a way to make it work for his system.

Also - I think he bailed out of the Correspondents Dinner because who needs all that drama? Why should he even bother with it? He doesn't have to. I don't see it as chicken as you apparently do, just not worth the hassle.

Am I alone in preferring his show to his standup by a whole lot?

2012-10-21 05:33:01 PM
Yes, I have a question for Governor Romney:

When is Dave Attel going to host SNL?

Thank you.

2012-10-21 05:43:17 PM
As much as I love Louis I find myself irritated that someone at the HuffPo took a picture of their television last night and then wrote an article about it.

Also, between this and Seth McFarlane hosting next week the haters are going to be hitting on all cylinders.

Like Louie, not a fan of SNL. Doesn't seem like a good fit, but whatever. If it helps him promote his business model, I say, more power to him.

2012-10-21 06:07:36 PM
Louis CK is my favorite comedian alive today now that George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg are dead. Daniel Tosh's standup is very good as well, but Tosh.O is simply mediocre at best. Jim Norton is also hilarious. I watched his Epix special on Netflix and lost it laughing. There really aren't too many consistently great comedians out there today. I'm glad to see Louis CK become so popular, because he really does deserve it. He actually cares more about the fans than making a buck which was proven when he donated the vast majority of the money he made with his $5 webpage special to charity. Just seems like an all around good guy. Here recently as in a couple weeks ago he put the audio of a female comedian on his webpage. The show was the one done the very day she found out she had cancer. He said the performance moved him. Classy guy who gets my respect.

2012-10-21 06:14:36 PM
Louis is my favorite comedian working today. I got to see him last night in Dallas, and I laughed so hard I thought my face was going to fall off.

this. i kept waiting for the funny in the last few episodes, but....i failed to see it.

I wonder if he talks about his children in his opening.

That would be a breath of fresh air.

The writer/director of "Pootie Tang" is "better than that?" Really?

He might do a good job. FFS, he was Chris Rock's writing partner for years. Something tells me he will probably get a few pointers.

fatalvenom: kronicfeld: Ugh. He shouldn't have accepted the invitation.

Actually, he was only funny during that one club gig he did 15 years ago, and that was only funny before all the other people started showing up.

Ah, why can't the things I like stay hidden from the rest of the world?

I would rape-blow Louis CK just to spite him.
