Yeah. Kids go wild for the unpredictable Chevy Chase.

He was actually railing about them making his character too much of a bigot. Maybe he shouldn't have used the dreaded word, but his heart was in the right place for once.

Yep, non-story.

I'm with him on this one. He should be able to express his discomfort with the direction his character is going, especially if the character is going that way just to piss him off.

The writers punishing him for pushing Harmon out the door? Nooooooooooo, never.

Subby here, I swear it was a typo. The 'u' is so close to the 'i' on this damn keyboard.

Stop looking at me like that!

It was the perfect time to whip that out. Nobody wants to see that on white TV.

Pesky periods.

Yeah, sounds like a non-story. Also, how much of a d!ck must Harmon be to work with if they kept Chevy over him? Chase's character is by far the easiest one for the show to drop.

Yep. Didn't see anything wrong with that particular tirade, and painting it as "racially charged" in the headline is disingenuous.

Chase hates being on this show, he's made no secret of that. Keeping him around is just continually asking for, and receiving, a headache.

And does anyone even like his character? Nothing Pierce does is entertaining any more. At best, He's just taking up space.

Chase is unhappy with his character being racist, yet he's been fine with his character being unfunny for three years.

Whether or not his anger about the writing of his character was justified, yelling the n-word when on set with your two black cast members is not the smartest move.

When has Chevy Chase ever been bothered by being unfunny?

But Chase is also the only "name" they have on the show. Picture it this way, you're the creator and the show runner of a fairly popular show featuring Mel Gibson. You two HATE each other and it comes to a decision that someone has to be removed from the production.

It doesn't matter if Mel is going on antisemitic rants every other week... He's a big time star and will draw in an audience. You're just the name under the "Created by" credit on the title sequence. You're gonna get fired no matter how much it hurts the product, because studio execs would rather have a name than a quality product.

That's not to say Harmon wasn't a dick, my reading of the behind the scenes situations show that he's a very self aware nightmare to work with, I'm just saying it doesn't matter who was the bigger dick, Chase wasn't going anywhere.

It really amazes me that Chevy can't even pretend to be a good guy. I realize that a leopard can't change its spots and all that, but it really wouldn't take much for people to like Chevy Chase. He has Saturday Night Live, Caddyshack, the Vacation franchise, and Fletch under his belt. People want to like him. They want to think there's something in him that may resemble some of the characters that we've quoted to death over the last 30 years. But every time his name pops up, it is inevitably a story about how much of an incredible asshole he is. Is it really that hard to just not be a dick?

Will-Mun: He's a big time star and will draw in an audience.

He is not and the show can't draw in an audience.

I love the show, I watch reruns of it daily while surfing the web, but neither one of those things you said are true.

I like Chevy Chase on the show as Peirce, I also recognize that he is a huge dick and a pain in the ass to work with, as told by EVERYONE HE HAS EVER WORKED WITH EVER.

I'm 26, a little bit younger than the Family Vacation and Fetch crowd, and I barely have a favorable opinion of his acting or knowledge of it (Fletch rules, and 3 amigos). The older generation might remember him with a lot more respect, but at my age a lot of people don't know who he is. Let alone the age of Communities target demographic.

You think the target audience of a sitcom gives a shiat about him? Especially a sitcom that is suffering mightily in the ratings?

I'm not one of the people who will fall all over and declare that Dan Harmon is the almighty genius here, but its no wonder he had a falling out with Chevy. EVERYONE DOES.

I just hope the show can make it to six seasons and a movie, I bet Netflix could pick that shiat up (sans Chevy) and run with it on the cheap.

/Also, Abed is Batman now.

Chsse has funny parts on the show, but you could swap him for a dozen actors in a plastic-surgery episode and keep the character without the chevy.

Replace him with jeffery tambor. (I think that is the name).

I'm pretty sure Chase wasn't going to go anywhere because he has no bearing on writing a show well enough to garner ratings, which is why Harmon was fired.

Though I know it can be a bad thing, I'm cautiously-optimistic that a change in showrunners will be better for Community as it was having consistency problems for the past 2 seasons or so.

I caught that, too, but it seems like once someone mentions the "N-word" then it's always just too much to bear and no one wants to understand the context.

That blog sucks, as does the writer.

Haha, like this even matters. The fact is Whitney was brought back this season, before this "not funny anymore since the end of the first season", craptacular shiatfest of a show. And that's all you need to know.

At this stage of the game neither Gibson or Chevy could draw flies to a shiatpile.

Ahem... well, yeah... Okay, clarification. Star = In a shiat ton of movies, a handful of which were good. High Profile.

That's all that matters to executives up top. Even if they are dead wrong.

No, I'm older generation and there's no respect. He's been an asshole since the 70's.

That said, some of his movies are classics, but that has less to do with him than he thinks.

And you left out Funny Farm, which was probably the best movie he was ever in simply because of the supporting cast.

2012-10-21 01:08:13 PM
Oh, you mean that show that got cancelled after the third season, and now it's over and I own all three seasons on DVD and it ended with Jeff Winger coming full circle? Man, I loved that show.
