I'm just a gifted amateur around here.
There's no way a nice frock and a catchy tune can
compete with three ping pong balls, two cigarettes
and a pint of beer.

BalugaJoe: not a single black guy in the class.

Being a mormon (religious) school, I'm surprised that they teach any science at all as well.

Then you're a moron. It's fully accredited, places plenty of science graduates, med students, and dental students. All of those require full backgrounds in chemistry, physics, biology, and *gasp* even actual evolutionary biology classes.

Not to mention engineers.

Next thing you'll be saying that Catholic schools are terrible for science too.

That was a college science class in a college?

It reminded me of demos we had in 7th grade except they taught more.

The title of the vid is "Stokes pingpong cannon" so maybe I thought he was going to say something like it was invented by Sir George Gabriel Stokes (of fluid dynamics fame) and have some lesson involving physics.

Nope, its called "Stokes cannon" cause that is the "professor"'s name.

Well, a cursory search finds that lots of people are using the ping pong ball cannon. Knowing how teachers "borrow" each others ideas, I understand that he could have invented it, and other teachers are just following his lead.

But the article doesn't claim he invented it. Is he really the guy, or is subby just full of shiat about who invented the thing.

// youtube vid of someone getting shot by one in 2007, I saw them in 2009 at Buffalo State.

This is why we can't elect a Mormon for president. They think this little trick is cool.

We built a precision mortar.

Learning as much about the world as possible is a central tenant of the LDS religion. There are lots of instructions that Mormons should be an educated people, but this one covers the topics they are supposed to learn, both religious and secular.

Doctrine and Covenants Section 88 Verses 78-79 "Teach ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed more perfectly in theory, in principle, in doctrine, in the law of the gospel, in all things that pertain unto the kingdom of God, that are expedient for you to understand;

79 Of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities of the nations, and the judgments which are on the land; and a knowledge also of countries and of kingdoms-"

Growing up Mormon, I was taught to understand verse 79 to mean learn as much about everything as possible. There is no topic that is "off-limits"

How about Joseph Smith's life? You know, the reality of it, not the myths?
