They overbilled the government, the governemt is trying to get their money back. Sounds like the type of fiscal responsibility that the GOP would embrace*.

*If the GOP were actually fiscally responsible, and not primarily composed of innumerate shouters.

For those too lazy to read...

FTA
A fired Gallup employee who became a whistle-blower, Michael Lindley, alleges in the lawsuit that he discovered shortly after going to work for the polling company that it had engaged in widespread fraud against the government.
Honored as "Rookie of the Year" at Gallup in 2009, Lindley says he was fired six months later when he told colleagues that if the company didn't report overbilling practices to the government, Lindley would do so himself.

His lawsuit, filed nearly three years ago and unsealed Wednesday in federal court, says Gallup routinely submitted inflated cost estimates which enabled the company to reap huge profits from its government business.
In addition to its polling work, Gallup provides consulting services to government, corporate and other clients around the world.
The Justice Department said it was stepping into the case with respect to Gallup's contracts with the Mint and the State Department.

Ta Dah. Headline is trolltastic.

Sadder at how this tab went half the day without a green and this is what we got during that time.

As a note, have the Daily Mail/Caller submissions increased lately?

Gallup overbilled the government, then fired whistleblowers... I have no problem at all with my tax dollars supporting thorough litigation of the matter. Given that the lawsuit was filed months ago and the government's joining was expected, one could argue just as easily that they're publishing crap polls *because* of the prosecution... either way, it seems like their reputation is about to go downhill, these accounting matters are usually rather easy to spot.

You can care about people, you just have to care about your fiscal and societal betters.

Feeling bad that Muffy VanLandingham's Cape Cod home burned down a month before the family was getting ready to go summering? OK.

Feeling bad that the maintenance man at your office has to work three minimum wage jobs so his wife can take their son to cancer treatments? Fark him. Should get a better job if he loves his wife and son so much.

FTFA: If fraud is a business model at Gallup, surely that attitude permeates throughout the organization, ergo to wit, Gallup's election polls cannot be trusted.

News organizations should cover this story and the inevitable conclusion that Gallup's huge misses on polling data were not mistakes but done on purpose to influence public opinion.

Why would Gallup do that? If the administrations justice department is barking up your tree, wouldn't you want his opponent to win in order to avoid prosecution.

I can't wait to see how this scandal unfolds.

Oh, just as I predicted.

This argument is just as meritless on the left as it is on the right. Could their polling data be consistently skewed? Sure. Can you draw that conclusion from the fact that they may be greedy and have overbilled the US government? Hell naw.

In short, your blog sucks and you're not helping.

Xcott: Sooo...

1) Gallup's polls are consistently inaccurate
2) They're in a dispute with the government over billing of services
3) Someone on Kos thinks 1+2=OMG FRAUD CONNECT THE DOTS GALLUP NUMBERS ARE FAKED
4) This gets like 200 recommends and 200 comments because it resonates with lefty paranoia, even though it doesn't seem to make sense on any level.

I thought it got the attention because it resonated with righty paranoia, even though it doesn't make sense on any level... I mean headline seems to imply that Obama is going after Gallup b/c of bad polls.

I post links and really trollify the headline
They're all from blogs or writers trying hard to beat a deadline
Specious arguments, falsehoods, ad hominem are just fine
Good or bad, or blur the line

So I'll just leave this here
...something from Fox or CNN
And I'll just leave this here
...and you can rate it out of 10
And I'll just leave this here
...and then you'll respond once again
So I'll just leave this here
yeah, I'll just leave this here

Because President Obama personally approves every lawsuit filed by the DOJ. And he knew 3 years ago that Gallup polls would show him trailing in polls only 3 weeks before the 2012 elections. Much like his family knew to publish his birth announcement 50 years prior to his running for office in order to prove he was born in the United States.

What a complicated world you fundies live in. I don't know how you can keep straight all the conspiracies against you.

My heart bleeds. That's right, I'm a bleeding heart.
