Whatever subby. Everyone knows Mitt's been running since 2006.

From Wikipedia:

Romney did not seek re-election [for governor] in 2006, instead focusing on his campaign for the Republican nomination in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.

Jack LaLanne sneers at this choice. Or would have. Let's see how Phelps is doing when he hits 80 and 90.

TFA: Phelps is as reasonable a choice as anyone.

No. I'd put about 100 decathletes ahead of him, for example.

And really, he only ran for governor so he could have executive experience on his resume to bolster a presidential run in the future.

swimmers look incredibly cut, but as a former swimmer (ok, hs only) I can honestly say its the most useless muscles that get built. your shoulders get big but you cant actually lift anything. you cant especially run fast

What specific criteria did they use? And did they look at any dancers? Professional dancers at the height of their powers are in amazing shape.

Professional MMA fighters (particularly the lower weight classes, guys like Frankie Edgar) are more fit I would say, too. Even top-tier cyclists (i.e. Armstrong in his prime, juicing not withstanding) are more fit IMO

Cyclists also have, generally, shiat for upper body strength. (assuming that 'overall' is part of the criteria for this list)

On an unrelated note, I've wondered why sprinters always seem to have a decent amount of upper body mass, whereas longer distance runners do not. Is the extra weight just a non-issue at shorter distances?

Not entirely sure but the actual pumping of the arms is crucial to sprinters. So they probably do put in time to working out the upper body.

I heard that when they made the sculptures at the Coliseum for the 1984 Olympics, the sculptor picked some swimmer(s) as being the best looking / most representative of fit.

I have got ridiculous running genetics, and used to run a ton, but quit because I got bored during the run. How does he not get bored out of his mind on those distances and times? I used to get bored running only 5 miles.

Chelios isn't that fit... His physique isn't any better than you'll see in any gym. Not that he wasn't juicing (you never know), but his physique isn't that impressive.

On topic though...Magazine names only other athlete most people know outside of the sports that matter the most something something.

A year ago it would've been Lance Armstrong.

Mountain bikers laugh at this comment. Unless you only meant road cyclists. Then it's all good.

Sprinters are simply a different breed of cyclist imho...
