FFPL Report - round 7

The league returns after the two-week international break.
At the top, I cling onto 1st place for the second week. Worryingly for me early leader Cptrios is now down in 29th place. Top four all unchanged, but the gap between 1st and 2nd has decreased whilst that between 2nd and third/fourth has expanded. No one in the top eight scored more than 100pts.

StRalphTheLiar, bjmichel, 689908, martissimo, kcostell, wynswrld join me on the max +20 BB. Not a single player on Page 2 is sitting on any BB at all!

Top score of the week was djbigbird with a healthy 175, moving him up 10 places to 20th, whilst at the other end of the spectrum Alcalaroark was the only player to score negatively moving him down 11 spots. 6 farkers didn't enter predictions last round - Alcalaroark, they all did better than you! Several personal bests last round, including NorfolkingChance and DesertMoloch, who both doubled or better their previous record haul.

Big mover-up this week is Tom_the_servo_bit_me, who after a troubled first couple of rounds has made it onto Page 1, up 13 spaces and gaining. Tom is the median player in our mini-league and is positioned 36628/71347 globally - close to the summit of Mt. Gauss. Tailwise I'm in 154th and czetie in 71036/71347. Remember, we started a week late, so everyone else had one round of scoring on us.

BillyCrystalMethLab has empirically proved it isn't too late to join in by scoring an impressive 80 points from just five games, including two perfect predictions. Despite the 6 week headstart, sterling_thunder, tacos4jesus, abukyle and czetie have been overtaken by him. Is this the week czetie moves into positive territory?

More MUFC supporters on Page 2 than 1. A narrow majority of Spurs supporters are on Page 1 alongside 66% of Arsenal supporters and 75% of Toon fans [c'mon JosephFinn!].

A clip of the objective and unbiased team news for the Tyne V Wear derby:

'SAFC: Titus Bramble is doubtful and Lee Cattermole is suspended, though not by his knackers from a tall building, unfortunately...'

In other news, I've now been using the internet for 20 years.

Today:
Tottenham v Chelsea
Fulham v Aston Villa
Liverpool v Reading
Man Utd v Stoke City
Swansea City v Wigan
WBA v Man City
West Ham United v Southampton
Norwich v Arsenal
Tomorrow:
Mackems v Newcastle
QPR v Everton

In Championship news Leeds fans show their true colours by punching the Wednesday keeper Link.

Good part of the international break i got to see the England under 21 team play Serbia at Carrow Road. If he can avoid the hype machine Sterling from Liverpool could be a good player.

2012-10-20 07:40:43 AM
And I'm trying to stay just respectable enough that I can stay on the first page. I tried to make my guesses much more conservative this week.

Sadly, I have some business to take care of today so ill likely miss most of this thread. A food showing by Arsenal and some decent guesswork in the FFPL would take the edge off this sting.

2012-10-20 07:45:59 AM
Bale and Dembele out for Spurs.

2012-10-20 07:50:39 AM
When they do that thing where they bring the kids on the pitch before the game, the kid with Petr Cech should also wear a helmet.

2012-10-20 07:56:45 AM
Whoo, I get to watch the early game live for once. Yaaay....

C'mon Spurs..pull out the win (or a 2-2 draw for some fantasy points please)

2012-10-20 08:05:27 AM
Damn, dat Cahill volley. Tuned in just in time to see it.

If we can't win against Reading at home, we don't deserve to be in the Prem this year.

It is NEXT year you should be worrying about [not really]. Borini out for three months. Lot on Suarez.

I'm not terribly gutted about Borini or Suarez since we gotten through the hard part of the half-schedule early. Borini hasn't been the wunderkind Rodgers wanted him to be, and we're already giving our youth a runout so it should be too hard to get replacements in. Now if we do nothing in January, then I'll panic.

Worse comes to worse, we'll just steal another Newcastle striker, since that worked so well last time.

Hhahahaaha, that would be great

Oh Dempsey, what the hell was that?

2012-10-20 08:28:33 AM

Langston: Oh Dempsey, what the hell was that?

I thought Dempsey would have been a useful signing for NUFC. Can play in a variety of positions forward. Probably too old for current regime to buy though.

Good morning.

Chelsea look dandy.

Looking for 3 points against Villa this morning. COYW!

I think he's still got talent, but he really mangled that counterattack.

Morning folks. I'm holding my nose and pulling for the Spuds

2012-10-20 08:53:54 AM
Wooo! Odd looking, but i'll take it.

It's odd how this fantasy league changes who you pull for, isnt it?

Fight! Fight!

2012-10-20 09:01:04 AM
DEFOE!

Screws my perfect, but nice goal. When did Aaron Lennon get so dangerous?

2012-10-20 09:03:32 AM
It took me 10 minutes to realize I should be happy with the Defoe goal

2012-10-20 09:04:22 AM
really lovely goal from Defoe.

Big bad blonde Torres looking for a fight. apparently.

2012-10-20 09:05:31 AM
If Spuds can maintain this energy, they could steal this game. Tall order, though.

2012-10-20 09:11:03 AM
Mata makes up for the first half.

2012-10-20 09:11:22 AM
Johnny Kills with a beautiful equalizer!

2012-10-20 09:11:45 AM
Jones, Wisdom, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Sahin, Gerrard, Allen, Sterling, Suso, Suarez.
Subs: Gulacsi, Shelvey, Henderson, Downing, Assaidi, Carragher, Enrique.

Reina pulled his hammy over the break, no news how long he's out.

Jesus. 2-3

2012-10-20 09:13:31 AM
Spot on. I wouldn't say it was phenominal but there was no room for error and he slid it right through. In other news I got my scores in on time (shouldn't be a big deal but it is for me).

2012-10-20 09:13:40 AM
Maybe it's the tattoos, but Tom Huddlestone's skin tone of his arms doesn't match the skin tone of his face. Or maybe it's just me.

MATA again!

2012-10-20 09:14:00 AM

Espn3 is behind. It is 73:30 now

Its unfair that one team should have Oscar, Hazard, and Mata all on the field at the same time, lol. But such a joy to watch.

2012-10-20 09:21:28 AM
That said, I'm gonna throw up now.

Sturridge, the neckbeard is not a good look. Shave that shiat son.

But hey, I am an Atlanta sports fan as well, which means we're strong out of the gate and get silent at the moment of truth.

/still drunk from last night.

2012-10-20 09:31:47 AM
And there's the requisite Torres miss. Now we can end the game.

2012-10-20 09:32:38 AM
I just hope the MIGHTY Oxford United can end their terrible skid today against Accrington Stanley (who are dey? - And if you get that reference 1. You're a Brit, and 2. Congrats, you're old)

Also, I see I put my predictions in for this week before the international break. Still on BB of 15, so I have hope.

Not much though, as I predicted a 2 - 0 Liverpool victory

2012-10-20 09:33:04 AM
Turned on the game just as Defoe scored. Spurs would still be in this if it wasn't for Gallas. At fault for all 3 goals and if Torres knew how to score, it would be 4.

2012-10-20 09:33:08 AM
Adebayor: you suck!

2012-10-20 09:35:12 AM

2012-10-20 09:35:34 AM
And Sturridge puts it to bed. Good match.

2012-10-20 09:36:13 AM
I'll take the 10 point lose in the FFPL for this Chelsea win.

2012-10-20 09:36:26 AM
Walker you dolt....

2012-10-20 09:36:28 AM
We won't draw against Reading. It's at Anfield.

We will lose.

2012-10-20 09:36:47 AM
That's 4.

MOTM is clearly Mata, 2 goals and an assist, and has played Spurs off the pitch.

I'm off to the Verizon store, because somehow I managed to turn my phone into a paperweight last night. If I'm not back by 12:30 eastern, have a drink of your choice.

/If I am back, still have a drink of your choice

2012-10-20 09:42:09 AM
Spurs defense was horrible, horrible. Gallas with the first 3 goals and Walker with the 4th. That 4th goal also cost me 5 points (15 vs 10). Plus I was really hoping Chelsea would drop points to help both Spurs and United.

No idea, 689908 would know a lot better than I would. I would be super happy if that was the case though as long as they replaced him with a solid attacking midfielder that wasn't selfish, knew how to pass and didn't dive. Basically everything that Nani isn't.

Speaking of which, I guess Ashley Young is injured?

Oh my. I don't know. I guess he's for sale for the right price, which, as usual in United's case, is a lot lower than he's actually worth. I'm a fan though. To me, it's incredible that they won't increase his wages to less than Young's already on. Young and Smalling are meant to be close to fitness.

2012-10-20 10:57:43 AM
Apart from a few good moves, United have been fairly average so far. I think Rooney is the 14th different scorer in 11 games so far. Welbeck looks really lively, but saves his worst and most awkward moments for when he's closest to goal.

Best. Perforance. Of. The. Season. So. Far.

Hoolahan and Holt were the difference this game. Those two are just too important to the team to be left on the bench and this result shows it. Bring bank fortress Carrow Road

It was an odd offseason, but I feel that with all the pieces in place, we could be better than last season. We moaned about our midfield being gutted (myself included), but it seems that Baird and Sidwell are a good, solid pairing. We have enough creative forward-thinking players to allow for our two central mids to lay back a bit more.

Exciting stuff. Jol seems to be solidifying this team as a perennial top-10 and possible Europa team again.

An ocean away, my favorite team is still undefeated in the EPL and firmly in first place. Here at home, the local Crew fail to make the playoffs for first time since 2007. I'd pretend to care, but the Crew wear Pittsburgh Steelers colors, and that just doesn't wash here.

Because of my insurance chip being necessary today and all my other positive point matches being cancelled out by the negatives (including my Fulham perfect being cancelled by my banker on Arsenal), the only thing I'm actually getting points for is calling a Liverpool 1 goal win.

Well, I went -30 by putting my banker chip on Arsenal, too, so I'm relieved that I'm not the only person who did not expect that result. It did seem the the lock of the week before the Guuners shiat the bed.

On the downside, it seems that teams have figured out how to lock up Arsenal's midfield enough to mitigate the attacking threat.

The north-east fed more men into WW1 than any other region of the UK. Hard boys. 200 years ago would have been wearing red-tunics and overrunning China/India etc.

From the BBC:
Lots of players not wearing Kick it Out t-shirts in the warm-up at Loftus Road. For QPR: Anton Ferdinand, Nedum Onuoha, Junior Hoilett, Djibril Cisse and Shaun Wright-Phillips. For Everton: Steven Pienaar, Sylvain Distin and Victor Anichebe.

So what was the point of wearing the shirts if players are opting out of it at will? Even if you don't like the expediency of the board's decisions, at least support the general cause.
In bigger news, Shaun Wright-Phillips is still playing?

I had my banker on the Man Utd game even though it was x2. Looks like it was a good choice! I had 2-2 for Newcastle/Sunderland so at least I get 20 points for a correct draw. I have the Everton game as 2-1 for Everton so hopefully that works out as well!

I do think it's a bit rich of Rio to get on his soapbox about racism in the game, then go on Twitter and call Ashley Cole an Oreo for supporting his teammate.

Meanwhile in Norway:

1. Rosenborg: played 26, 52 points.
2. Molde: played 25, 51 points.
3. Stromsgodset: played 25, 48 points.

It's a 30-game season, and the top three still have to play each other, starting with Stromsgodset against Molde tonight. If you remember, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led Molde to their first ever title in his first season in charge last year.
