No, it won't, however Katz has done an incredible amount to destroy his reputation with the public and the political leaders in Edmonton.

Odds are a good a deal gets done in early 2013, but this arena should have been half-built already.

Its not an original six team. Hockey doiesnt care.

Serious question: What are the other options? I see Phoenix, Florida, and Dallas. That's it.

I'd love a hockey team here but after watching some Okie jackass steal our Sonics, I wouldn't want to do the same to another city. I imagine Edmonton's love for the Oilers is stronger than Seattle's love for any of our teams. The NHL is better off with a team in Edmonton than a team in Seattle.

That would really make me giggle because their AHL affiliate (the Barons) are in OKC.

Your parallel doesn't work: Seattle was an expansion franchise in 1967.

If Betteman wants to be strung up from the nearest tall place, then yes, he'll let that deal go through.

And since he's an assh*le with a deathwish, I'll say its possible.

How about the Islanders? or maybe Devils too. But East teams moving west and how fond everyone seems to be about re-alignment might slow those options a bit.

Seattle wasb alsi the first US cuty to win a Stanley cup and they couldnt support that team enough to keep it either. Lets face it. Seattle deserves soccer as its primary sport.

Exactly. I'm a Flames fan, and therefore a defacto not-Oilers fan, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I'm not sure that there is another market as passionate as Edmonton in the NHL, and I'm damned sure that Seattle wouldn't come close to matching Edmonton.

Despite his apology, it's evident that this whole visit/tour on Katz' part is a bald faced bluff. It's a bluff that upsets people by design. For that alone, He should kindly go fark himself.

The parallels between Katz and Howard Schultz.... not looking good.

This is no different than Charles Wang flying out to Kansas City to check out heir new arena. The Isles aren't actually going to move to KC - it was just a tactic to put pressure on local government.

Same deal with Katz and the Oilers.

2012-10-20 12:29:18 PM
I thought Katz as owner would be good for the city. I don't think that any longer. I grew up hating the oilers, as a jets fan. Once the jets left, I became an oilers fan as they were the most similar to Winnipeg. I even went to the first heritage classic, and really enjoyed it there, despite freezing my nuts off (I'm used to that in Wpg).

I'm going to pretty pissed if the oilers do move.

Quit moving teams out of markets that actually care about hockey, bettman! You will just be moving them back there in a few years anyway

But at least Wang had a nice plan that would have cost the city hardly anything besides some TIF financing. Katz is demanding more and more money from Edmonton and refusing to tell them why. Katz is coming off as a raging douche.

Yeah...this. I want a team here in Seattle, but after having our longest tenured team ripped out from under us...I just really wouldn't feel good about taking someone else's team...especially one rooted in as much tradition in their sport/city, as we had in ours.

2012-10-20 01:05:19 PM
I propose a three-way trade: Eskimos and Sonics to Seattle, Seahawks to OKC, Mariners to Edmonton, who keep the Oilers. OKC gets the NFL to make up for the sting of losing the Thunder, Seattle will fit in fine in the CFL and will have a natural rivalry with the Lions, Seattle gets their beloved Sonics back, Edmonton gets to keep their hockey team in exchange for putting up with the Mariners' ineptitude. Everybody wins.

You can't just move a team because the owner wants to can you? doesn't it have to get approved by the board much like the Jets were last year? Nobody would let a franchise like the Oilers move to Seattle because of a butthurt owner.

No way anyone would want to lose our Seahawks. The Mariners, on the other hand, can get the hell out of town for all anyone cares.

No, the NHL has final say on that. And the other owners won't sacrifice a Canadian team and what they bring in revenue.

Remember, the NHL went to court in Arizona to prevent Jim Balsillie from moving the Coyotes to Hamilton. It's the same idea, really.

based off google translate drunk - english: the Seattle Met's won in 1917 for cripe's sake! The city was too busy trying to keep Asians out of the area.

2012-10-20 02:36:16 PM
As much as I want the NHL here, I wouldn't accept it through the means of a douchebag owner poaching a team from a dedicated fanbase like Edmonton.

Also, just how "bad" or "outdated" is Rexall Place? Key Arena is absolutely a dump, but at least on television, Rexall Place seems okay. Does it lack luxury boxes and other amenities? I've never actually been there.

2012-10-20 02:38:25 PM
The Metropolitans were PCL, as were the Victoria Cougars when they became the Detroit Cougars, then Falcons, then Red Wings

mikaloyd Its not an original six team. Hockey doesnt care.

There's really no such thing as an Original 6-the 2 teams that PLAYED in the first recognized NHL Game, Toronto ArenasIBlueshirts/Leafs) & the Montreal Wanderers involved a non-Original 6...the NY Rangers were established by the MSG owners to kneecap the New York, later Brooklyn, Americans...& it worked. St. Louis Eagles/Montreal Bulldogs, Phila Quakers/Pittsburgh Pirates(the pro hockey team), Ottawa Senators, Hamilton Tigers, Montreal Maroons

2012-10-20 02:38:25 PM
They won't be coming to Seattle I'm sure, I think the NHL and the nba will use Seattle as a tool to scare other teams in both sports into new arena deals for a bit before they throw us a bone.

2012-10-20 02:49:10 PM
We were lead to believe calgary needs the Oilers in edmonton and the NHL must keep both teams in Alberta
anyways, i have been hearing this moving nonsense since 1991, hopefully the Oilers stay!

Good to see Edmonton isn't stupid enough to have taxpayers support a league that plays only 4 out of every 5 years.

But, I think the good people of Edmonton deserve to keep thier team. Keep Canadian teams in Canada. Please.

The Islanders issue can be explained as so:

Nassau=GOP
Town of Hempstead=GOP
Wang=Democrat

It was never a NIBMY issue, it's a political powerplay to stop the Democrats from gaining power thru Wang. If the GOP wanted what Wang wanted, It would've been started already (Wang got the development rights from a Democrat).

/Edmonton won't move, the NHL would make make him sell the team if he tried
//Seattle will either be expansion ($) or possible 2nd string backup if Glendale screws the pooch (likely)

Move all the Canadian teams south of the border. Then the NHL will be much less Canadiany and be much more stable.

After reading the article, I think the difference is that the Edmonton owner doesn't want to sell to some douchebag in OK. That Hansen fella has already said he doesn't have any interest in the hockey side.

I live in Seattle, so I'm really getting a kick...

There is no way that the Oilers are moving from Edmonton to Seattle.

The Maple Leafs will win the Stanley Cup before that happens.

The NHL is so screwed up, and the regular season is so pointless, who would wish an NHL franchise on any city?

I think the Coyotes are much more likely to more then the Oilers.
