Don't think this ride is going to be around long.

Over 2.5 million people a year might not feel the same way you do.

Carnies run these rides. I think the risk has been known for years, decades even.

2012-10-20 10:41:43 AM
CBSDFW.COM contacted Jeanne McDonough, listed as one of the owners of Sky Attractions, the company that maintains the ride and assembles it at several fairs across the country.

She had no comment and hung up when asked if this ride is safe.

Carnies work in the office too. Carnies.

2012-10-20 10:42:09 AM
Worked several carnivals right after getting out of high school over a couple summers as a part time job. I was a townie (meaning I didn't travel) and worked the carnivals as they came into town.

Learned the games are rigged, the rides are horribly unsafe and many inspectors are as corrupt as the carnies they inspect. Unless things have changed the rides are still horribly behind on maintenance.

I've been on several Starflyers at various parks and they are completely safe. The ride did what it was supposed to do in the event of a power outage, not fall to the ground.

That said, it is a bit disconcerting being 200+ feet in the air being held up by only swing chains.

/Mondial Windseekers are better though

Hoo boy. I don't have a major fear of heights or anything, but I think I'd lose my shiat if I got trapped in midair 20 stories up.

Bmorrison: what are the odds that some asshat political figure will blame the opposing party?

Flecher's Corny Dogs.

I've been going for 20 years straight. I think I know what happened here with Big Tex. There is a corny dog place right by him. He must of partook of one. Remember, the fire started in his trousers region. Those corny dogs do elicit a bit of inflammable gas in that region, however for the consumer who is not a sixty foot animatronic cowboy there's no issue.

I went to the fair on opening day with my wife and we though we heard fireworks, it turned out to be Big Tex's PA. A couple weeks later, I was there with my girlfriend and she though she smelled something foul as we approached from the Midway.

It was a bad year for Big Tex. They were talking about his new replacement even before his body was cold.

Too bad Dallas doesn't have any really big Texas-sized law firms.

Too bad Perry cut off Big Tex's health insurance. He now has a pre existing condition.

I'm terribly afraid of heights. I hate the slow accent and the beginning of roller coasters, but love the ride. These swings absolutely terrify me. I hate them and will never ride another as long as I live.

This shiatty ride broke down about three or four times at the MN State Fair earlier this year. What a piece of garbage ride.

If you ever go to Cedar Point, stay away from Magnum (200 ft., 2.5 minute ride, 1 minute chain lift), and go over to Millennium Force instead (300 ft., 2.5 minute ride, 15 second lift).
